@@jaybirdquilts I didn't expect the quilt kit and all the extras to be here January 1st but I also purchased and paid for the backing fabric and matching pillow cases fabrics which I did expect to be here long ago. I didn't hear about the journey2Nebula sew along until this fall. I purchased the 6 patterns but I'm still waiting for some of that fabric to ship. I may do the 6 journey patterns first then pick up on the quilt once I'm familiar with the process. I think I'll be caught up quickly. No worries.
It's more about the yield from the fat eighths. You'll only use half of the triangles in the blocks if you sewed strip sets to make them, and then you'd lose some wiggle room with the F8s if there's miscuts. Some extra fabric to work with to make the first block is all part of the plan. ;-)
@@jaybirdquilts Gotcha. I am not doing the quilt along this time, but I do have two of your rulers (I have dyscalculia so they have saved my sanity) so I'll try it!
Hi. Are you lovely ladies pre starching? Is there enough fabric to do this to allow for shrinkage? I will be pre starching, to avoid bias stretch. But don't want to run short on fabric. I don't have my pack yet, slow to receive here in Australia. Just wanted a heads up. Thanks.
I cannot assure that there will be enough fabric to starch the monthly F8ths for Nebula. Based on what people tell me the general WOF shrinkage is with starching, I have to recommend against it.
@@jaybirdquilts Thanks. That will make it difficult to sew with bias. I would have thought that starching of fabrics should have be a factor in the size of fabrics distributed, due to the pattern complexity. I might spritz starch not soak starch.
@@kylierigby1953 Since starching is very personal and not done universally it was hard to consider in the fabric requirements. It would have added a lot of additional cost which isn't preferred by the many people who do not starch or pre-wash. You MAY have enough fabric after starching as I did plan in extras for "oops" cuts, but I cannot assure it.
@@corrineflatz9398 Thanks. That is good to know. As soak starching is similar to prewashing, with shrinkage. I reckon we will both be fine. In Australia, we are still ages away from receiving our kits. I'm not phased. I've yet to complete the journey projects. Rather a lot on my list to do. This just adds to the chaotic nature of life for me at the moment. 4 kids, one off to Uni next month, work etc. Hope you are enjoying the process and having a tonne of fun!
Shout out to Pins & Needles, Mt. Kisco NY for getting all the packages out to us, and being so supportive
Thank you Julie! Going to start cutting this weekend. The pillow is darling!! I could make more books with other Tula scraps, Kaffe scraps, etc.
Great idea!!
Thanks Julie for such clear videos and teaching. Looking forward to the sew along!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for ALL your support Julie. This is fun.
You are so welcome
I excited! I just finished Gravity so I'm stoked!
Really looking forward to starting this journey. Now if the shop where I purchased my kit would just get the materials shipped out.
Hang in there! It's been a tough time for shipping.

Wow! Its finally here!!!!
Here we go!
Thank you for the guidance for the Nebula quilt. I'm so excited to make this quilt. Will you show the back of the blocks to show the pressing?
All of the seams are pressed open.
This is great! Thanks for all your help and tips!
You bet!
Just got my first four months. Starting today. But I made Sweet Tooth twice. So I think I’ll be ok.
After making Sweet Tooth you're in great sewing shape for Nebula!
Oh Julie, my Block came out wonky, can you tell us what size this block should be? Yup, I used my Hex n More ruler!
Send us an email with a photo of the seam allowances to jaybirdquilts@gmail.com
Instead of cutting all those half hexagons and triangles, can you make a strip set and cut the full triangle? Would the size be off?

And we are off!!

Thank you very much

Is there enough in scraps to make 2 pillows?
Yes, most likely.
Do you press your seams open?
Yes

@@kylierigby1953 I pre-wash all the fabrics and had no issues with NOT having enough.
