Just like to take the opportunity to thank Zach and Steven being ever so responsive on discord to the relevant sorcery discussions. I think sorcery will likely go a long way. We just need to give it time to grow organically - no rush at all
What makes Sorcery special to me? It tickles my chess player brain. It seems like Erik's Curiosa really respects the product (good QC and no cheap money grabs). It seems like Erik's Curiosa really respects the community. The gameplay is really fun even when losing!
I have no issue with what EC has said their stated goals are, but much of the execution doesn't fufill that goal. If it is going to be one set a year, they need to make sure there is enough product to sustain that year. If they want to be able to be played at home (rather than in stores which would be using organised play) they need to have things like starter product available for newer players to get started with.
30:20 This point all day. This is what I've always felt about Sorcery. This isn't an investment vehicle, no tcg is. This isn't the next MTG and it's more likely to last another year than another 10. Enjoy Sorcery for the game it is and enjoy it while it's here because this is an art project from top to bottom and it's fantastic.
As a designer and player of card games, what's disheartening to me is that for each IP that's absorbed into a big broad game, the chances diminish of that IP getting its own, dedicated, thematic game (be it collectible or not). So very funny to me that the official Final Fantasy TCG is stuck reusing production art from Square Enix, while the crossover with MtG will have custom-painted illustrations. Kinda feels like a slap in the face, admittedly, even if I'm not invested into the original FF TCG at all. It's quite a bit sad, is all. I should be happy that we're getting hundreds of beautiful FF-themed artworks from excellent artists! But it comes with this bitterness attached.
I haven't bought any MtG products since around M30 when I switched over to Star Wars Unlimited with the thought that I'd go back to MtG if/when SWU died but, at this point, I don't have any desire to go back to MtG even if it did. The resource mechanics and gameplay in SWU are much more layered than what you get from MtG which is tied to some outdated mechanics due to its overall design and I'd probably just try to find a different game at that point. The Funko-fication of the game is just another element that makes it more unappealing to me, personally. It's more or less becoming a Western Weiß Schwarz which is fine, I guess, but not what initially drew me to the game when I started playing. TBH I didn't mind the UB sets that much at the time I was playing because they did still sorta feel like they were at least tangentially related on a thematic level to something in MtG (the Brothers War arc with interdimensional demons and some sci fi elements mixed with fantasy didn't seem so foreign to me to mix with W40K - and the LotR set was just quintessential fantasy which merged perfectly with plenty of MtG themes/planes). They've just totally lost me on the more recent stuff like Spongebob though. There's been this penchant in nerddom to mix and match multiple disparate IPs that you find interesting into some other amalgamation (at least I remember this on t-shirts and products from the early aughts on items sold at Hastings/Barnes & Noble) but that's just never been that appealing to me. I'd just prefer to play Transformers TCG when I want that, not an MtG Optimus fighting against some other IP. I get that some people might like that but it's just not my cup of tea...
Really disappointed by your SAV! Short sentences, quite rude. When something goes wrong it's a "special case" and the customer have to pay all the losses.. I'm really sad with this bad experience despite I spent a huge amount of money on Beta sorcery last year. I have never felt this injustice feeling with other professionals before.

I disagree. On everything that you said here

Honestly, back when UB was first announced I thought UB would become it's own format. A spin off game of sorts. Not taking over the MTG formats.

Magic did have early lore and a plain called Dominaria. There were a bunch of novels published by HarperPrism that explored it.
Yea, Arena came out in like 94 and was set there too (along with plenty of the later books).
Smoked Paprika is the key spice for blackening season... which is the best seasoning. So disappointed.

Sav?
SAV, is the customer service when there is a problem after a purchase
