  • Come hang out with my while I take care of my plants! In this video, I take you through a typical plant care session with my plants. Since I care for my plants in phases or sections, this video demonstrates about half of the plant care for only my main level plants.
    It is important to establish a plant care routine that is practical, easy, and enjoyable. I break down my routine in 3 easy steps: shower/water, fertilize, insect prevention. Near the end of this video, I make a discovery that I have to immediately treat! Spider mites, YUK!
    Taking care of plants is rewarding because you get to spend time with your plants, give them the love they need, and admire them as well! I hope you enjoyed watching!
    If you do not wish to stick your finger in the soil to check the water levels, there are moisture meters that measure the moisture in your soil. Links below.

    I love how you use products that are easily accessible to everyone and you don’t make your own fancy soil mix or use several different types. Your just straight to the point and simple! You definitely make newbie plant parents feel like it is possible and not overwhelming to grow big babies and to keep those plant babies alive and have them thrive! Lol I totally understand and chuckled when you said “my hands are full. It’s kind of like when your cart is full!” How you were holding this plants is the exact way any plant lover hold’s the plants they weren’t supposed to get in the store and you didn’t grab a basket because you were just running in and out but you wondered to the garden section with intentions of “just looking” but you somehow convinced yourself that it’s okay to purchase those plants because they were cheap or omg you’ve been wanting one of those kinds or whatever reason you have to validate your plant addiction 😂 lol! Your stance and smile was legit on point! Thank you for sharing your plant love and advice/suggestions with everyone! 🌴💚🌱💚

    Great video. Love it. I have couple of questions. First You dont take bigger plants out of decorative pots to water, so won't their roots sit in water later? Second do you fertilize regularly during winter aswell, as everyone says to stop fertilizing during winter?

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching and commenting! The larger pots have a built in drainage in the bottom 3 inches of the pot. Any extra water comes out into the rolling saucer (which happens frequently when I water, so I lift the plant up and carefully walk the saucer full of water to the sink to dump it out 😂) This way, the roots never sit in water 💧. I fertilize every time I water with Jacks…. I follow the package directions. I fertilize year round. I see so much growth, I figure the plant needs it🌱 I love this fertilizer because it gives me the results I desire…big leaves, lots of growth. Great lighting is needed though for those results as well🤣🪴❤️ I LOVE the HUGE leaves on my Thai constellation…. I give jacks some credit for those as well🪴😂♥️

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  4 года назад +1

      Hi there!
      Generally I don't allow water to sit in bottom of anything unless it's a moisture lover. For example, if I water one day and notice a little over flow in the saucer, I check it the next day... and if it's not empty, I use a turkey baster to wick up that water!!! 🤣Thank you for your kind words and for watching my videos! I have invested a lot into a pothos that has been my baby for about 5 years...losing its thickness in winter because it's so big and growing out of its pot that I can't bring it inside. My question: how to post it? Or should I just propagate and start another on a stake? Also can you do a video on making a post stake? And how do I care for terra cotta vessels that are turning dinghy?

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  4 года назад

      Hi Ariena! I talk about watering at same time I talk about fertilization. It's about half way through the Pothos video. Watering depends on the size of the pot, the soil, and where you have it in your home. I water mine 1 time a week for that one.... another one I garner in a Terra cotta pot, I water 2 times a week...so it really varies depending on multiple factors. Thanks for watching! Hi Mr. Dumbarton! I do my plant care routine in small sessions; therefore, it takes anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour for each session once or twice a week. Doing this makes plant care manageable, fun, and not a chore! Showering the plants is really important, I think, to give the plant as 'natural' of an environment as possible. Are some plants prone to spider mites?

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  4 года назад +1

      Hi Janeemat,
      Oh yes! Ivy is one of those plants, as well as Aspidistra (Cast Iron plant), Crotons, Madagascar palms, White bird of paradise...and on my list are now Calathea because I have had such trouble with them bringing spider mites into my home. They hide out on the backs of the leaves...something I had to learn the hard way.
      My advice: anytime you purchase a plant from anywhere, wash the leaves, spray with Neem Oil...this way, you fend off infestations.

      @@plantluxxe Honey, I'm taking this plate of chocolate chip cookies across the street. Really? Why? Well, I watched Crista's video yesterday and she had this big plant at the bottom of her stairway and it really reminded me of that plant on Little Shop of Horrors, I'm scared it got her and ate her. No you're not, you just want to be a nosey neighbor and find out what that commotion was all about yesterday. Dang it, your no fun, I guess I'll go take the laundry out of the dryer. Ok, here I'll hold that plate of cookies for ya. (1 minute later) Honey, can you come help me fold the socks? Munch munch Chomp Chomp mmf mmf (swallow) just a minute!

      ( geez, I don't know what's wrong with me I'm writing another installment well I guess you know what that means, yep, soap opera! On today's episode we see Crista and her daughter Taylor filming a video just inside their door, Christa's sweeping up some leaves.) Honey can you wait a minute, I missed out on some chocolate chip cookies yesterday so I couldn't stand it I had to bake some. Ok. Meanwhile there's a knock at the door. Taylor answers it and oblivious to her sees a tall dark stranger sort of like on The Big Valley when Audra likes that doctor and he turned out to be all psycho and she ran and screamed and hid behind the well in a vacant house backyard. Hello, I just wanted to come in and chomp on some of your plants. (Taylor) Chomp? Yeah, you know chew the fat visit with the plants and admire them. Ok, just a minute. Mom somebody wants to see the plants. Crista looks from Kitchen, followed by loud scream.) EEEEK! Taylor that's a mealybug! (We hear ahhh! gets louder Ahhhhhhh! Then BAM! It's the sound of Crista screaming all the way from the kitchen until she makes contact with the mealybug sending him flying out into the middle of the front yard.) (Crista) you nasty mealybug how dare you come around here! Taylor, guard him I'm going after the neem spray! Taylor pounces on him and puts one of his many arms behind his back! Neem spray!? The mealy bug screams and as the neighbors watch Taylor rides a 6-foot mealybug down the street like a horse. Later I found out from Neighbors Crista didn't get to exact her revenge, Taylor tripped him at the end of the block pummeled him severely and told him not to ever come back! Neighbors cheered, with all their curtains drawn back they had a front-row seat. Heard one of them was watching and eating popcorn, oh wait that was me.

      Yeah you guessed it me again. Just having fun. (Overheard conversation from The Neighbors.) Doesn't Crista look like Linda Evans when she starred on Dynasty with that big house where as we can take 20 ft to go from the kitchen to the bathroom she takes like a hundred! Yeah all that's missing is the dynasty music. But really I don't think she's Crystal I think she's married to Bruce Wayne. What?! Why? Didn't you see her go to that plant store in her video the other day that was the Batmobile!
