I just picked up the Ares. Now the web site says 80-6m but the instructions says 40-6m. I assume that is with the 41ft element. Will it get up on 80 if the element was 71ft? Thanks. Bob WB6TIS

I have never wound a unun, but from what I can see someone has made a error, either the diagram is wrong or the winding of the unun is wrong, looking at the diagram it shows that at turn 4 the blue and red are flipped and at turn 8 they are reversed ... ???

was wondering what core type . watched Chuck build this one. Frank as well. he got colors wrong but still connected correctly. wire color does not matter. just makes it easer. I wound my 9:1 wrong at first. I made it years back before watching you tube. went buy pic in ARRL antenna book . I used a T200 power iron red core . what I got at ham fest and told me this is for 1.8 to 30 MHz . it works great for that and a SWL antenna . I made lots of contacts 40 threw 10 meters. no 30 or 60 meters. just don't use them bands. I have a Icom 7300 and most bands would not tune. I had to go into E tune at 50 watts to make it work. I saw a video of 9:1 on a 7300 and they went into E-tune to tune it as well. I am not Shure if 43 ferrite mix or the green 52 power iron would be better. LDG 9:1 has the red core . I know the 61 and 43 ferrite would give me 6 meters. I have end fed half wave mono band for 6 meters with 61 ferrite. if I go shorter on wire I can use a 4:1 with the green core and it tune better. just waiting on the QRO antenna. may go with 61 or 43 ferrite? Jeem tested a 61 . I don't have any outher cores to test for the 9:1 yet. look like the 43 ferrite is what you found works best. still need E-tune on that. with how well the 4:1 is working I just may go with that and keep my 9:1 as a SWL antenna. I got 75 ohm coax on that and works super. I did try a 4:1 on off set center. got that working and re wrap 49:1 for end fed. easier portable set up for me. I just cut wire for more bands . mono band and put number beads on wire so I know . I do have the 40 meter cut but the tune on rest of the bands was in the CW part . I find mono band wire had better tune and on air performance both RX and TX. better DX as well. 73's
@@TheSmokinApe now i want to try the minty green core on a 9:1 .love what they did for 4:1 . my 9:1 does work good. just wanting better SWR to start with like the 4:1 does. waiting on the QRO 4:1 and try 100 watt FT8 or more. LOL
You may not be aware that many AM broadcast towers are "non resonant", and they radiate just fine. The FCC has stringent limits and will not grant the license if the tower is not an effecient radiator.
@@TheSmokinApei generally prefer a resonate antenna, but I like the ease of setup for an efhw or random wire. I keep saying I will be building the cahrtenna efhw, but insulatting and organizing the shack has taking priority since it's gotten to oven temperature in the phx metro area. Until then, I will be pulling an hr2.0.

A mighty fine kit.

lol, thanks Karl. Glad you liked it 👍
Straight forward easy to follow build video! Thanks!
Thanks SF, I like the 9:1 as it’s multi banded 👍
Would like to see it in action and some VSWR measurements😢
I can do a video showing that 👍
Great instructions. Would love to see a live test of your build, how it really does work.
I will put it on the list, thank you!
Good video! And you had me very confused with the discord sound at 20:48 :D
Haha, it got me when I was editing 👍
No sticker? Someone needs a talkin to! Nice wrap on the toroid.
Gonna have to straighten Chuck out in this one…
Great video!! I need to buy one or two of those!
Thanks 1OO 👍
That's how its done, son!
You damn right
Is solder ok to use, we cant get sodder down here?😝👍
I suppose...
Great build tutorial ape. Love the design of that winder. I’ll definitely be getting one.

We’ll get the site updated, you are correct 👍
Why has America changed it from solder to sodder? Other than that I am buying the kit
I’m saying to wrong?

What size antenna wire did you use?
22g
I thought it looked bigger than what was in the kit i received. does it make any difference? @@TheSmokinApe
I would use 22 or bigger.
I thought 18 gage speaker wire would be way better@@TheSmokinApe
@@terencedubay I use that stuff all the time
Was curios on why 43 would be chosen over 52 for this antenna.
I’ve done quite a few tests with different types and found the 43 to work “best” for this application. I have a few videos on some of the tests.

Just say no to non resonate antennas
You may not be aware that many AM broadcast towers are "non resonant", and they radiate just fine. The FCC has stringent limits and will not grant the license if the tower is not an effecient radiator.
There are plenty of cases where folks use non-resonate antenna with great success...
