there is a Help key you can press and it will show you the control keys for doing things - an action key. Of how to arm a weapon and how to pick up items and how do use stealth, like when you "crouch" which equals Sneak movement in game. Sneaking and stealth are very important in game and combat.
one thing you have to do in this game, is carefully look around. there are weapons in the game. in your first area, the vault, you can find 3 possible weapons. but you have to look carefully for two of them.

I play fallout all the time in my free times, at least 1 or 2 times a year, just to be wondering around and doing random stuff.. Make sure to play Fallout New Vegas and all the DLC after FO4 It will feel a bit clunky and you will probably need to use VATS more often but the story and dialog trees are VASTLY more polished than F04. FONV is the best game in the series. At least for me.

ive played the entire fallout series for 1000s of hours and i still miss more then half of my shots lol
