No, there is only cause and effect
Thinking is both, cosmic and individual.
The notion that the individual thinking is independent from the universal happening is erroneous.
Cosmic events include individual events. Thinking is at the same time, an individual event and a cosmic event . The one doesn't contradicts the other.
'Individual thinking' is a cosmic event and is, therefore, cosmic thinking. There are not 'two'. The notion that 'individual' and 'cosmic' are 'dependent' on each other seems to imply a separate individual that depends on something else, namely the cosmic. This is erroneous. Individual appearing has no being. It only appears - as a cosmic event. Therfore, there are only cosmic events, including cosmic thinking.
Deciding just happens, but happens by the mind and the ego or Iness which is part of the mind.
Thinking happens but happens by the mind and the ego which is not different from the mind.
The question that arises is: which mind and ego is thinking, the lower impure rajasotamasic mind and ego or the higher pure sattvic mind and ego?
Which mind makes the decisions? The lower, desirous, mechanical rajasotamasic mind and ego or the sattvic higher, luminous, aware mind?
Both, the 'lower' and the 'higher' mind are cosmic events.
AeonTv you are (too) analytic. And hence totally miss the point of the experiment. Francis just says to be aware of what objects arising in your awareness. That's all he says : just be. Point.

All is happening, includes that we have the freedom and the capacity to think what we wish and make conscious voluntaries decisions in harmony with our Soul.
Yes, even the erroneous notion that 'we' make decisions in harmony or in disharmony with a soul is a cosmic event.

So, you can suffer psychologically from your erroneous decisions which you are considering only as a cosmic event,.but I don't suffer because of it.
We have come on Earth to.exercise our free will to conquest the lower nature and bring a higher consciousness in matter.. In two.words,.to bring Heaven on Earth.
Who believes.that has no free will admits that is only an unconscious machine, which is quite rediculous to believe, since we are in reality Spirit in manifestation.
Of course undeveloped people cannot exersise their free will. They follow unconsciously the impulses of the lower nature, the instincts, and the lower emotions and thoughts.

Look at your thoughts, decisions and actions, they just arise out of nowhere decided by noone. Were is ur free will in that? It is an illusion, u just don't see it yet.
Of course we are not all at the same level of consciousness and also we have not all the same capacity to exercise our free will. Our capacity depends on the maturity of our soul and the state of consciousness
The idea that thoughts arise from nowhere is false. Thoughts arise only in the mind of men not to a tree or to any other plant, stone or animal. Thoughts also doesn't occure in pure consciousness which is empty of everything. So the source of thoughts is the mind space.
Second. the function of the mind (manas and chitta) is to produce thoughts according its programming and its constitution but WE AS INTELLIGENCE (Buddhi) we can decide which thoughts will permit to stay in the mind and which not. We can decide to put in order the thinking process instead of being chaotic and disastrous. We can empty our subconscious of all habitual egoisitic thinking and be free from any uncosncious mental pattern if we will so. We can become anything we will.
No where near to what True SELF is, or no where near to what True Spirituality is...!
