A video of a visa run to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos.
This video was from June 2018 and the footage was originally going to be discarded. So think of this as archive material as in the summer of 2019 many things might have changed.

Not sure if someone already made a comment; but that status in your shot is not of last king of Laos. Actually the status is of Chao Anou the last king of Vientiane (Laos used to be a Three Kingdoms) who was caged and carted (along with Emerald Buddha image) to Bangkok (aka Krungthep) around 1826 and was killed there. In BK Chao Anou's compound was on the west side of river next to Rama VIII bridge. The communist Lao erected this statue maybe ten years ago. Somehow communist Lao admired this king more than any other because he signified the struggle for independence. If you wanted to see the statue of last king of Laos, who died in late 1970, the king from Luang Prabang you will have to go a bit south of the city behind the Don Chan Hotel.
I love the bike idea, gives you a chance to have a nosey around and a few Shandy's at same time, spot on.

Ahhh Bor Pen Yang, my favourite bar in all of Asia, although I haven't been there in a while. Well worth going there at sundown for the sunset over the Mekong. I might pay a visit there in Sept/Oct. My favourite place to stay is the Inter City.
I probably will never get to visit Laos but thanks for the video. The first time I ever heard about Laos was when I read Doctor Tom Dooley book as a child. The Night they burned the Mountain was the name of the book. I did go to Vietnam for a year and also visited beautiful Thailand but Laos is still a mystery to me till this day

Thai and Lao are closely related languages. Wouldn't surprise me the counting is (mostly) the same.
I've always enjoyed your videos but this one stands out for me. Laos seems like a place I could relax and enjoy. Seems you enjoyed the change of pace too.
Laos seems to have come along way since it was a could war back water haunted by civilian superpower representatives like Air America .
One month there. Cycled everywhere. Outside tourist areas. Bigger city than some may think. Found snooker bar, gym, and pool nearby. Expats do live there.

laos is the most heavily bombed place in world per capita the place was literally carpet bombed by b52 full every 10 minutes for nine years none stop that's why all airports in esaan are huge for full b52 to use

Im an older guy getting bored of Thailand so this was very nice to see. I think i go there when the winter comes. Is it more expensive than Thailand? I usually stay att one place for two three weeks.

WTF ! lol. Rent a bike ? Funny with a basket on the front like the one I get for my daughters when they were like 5-6 years old lol. So far I like that they drive on the right side ! I find Laos more cleaner and less crowded no ? A lot less people and vehicle on the roads. Yup @ 19.00 I don't think I can handle it for to long. Shit I'm getting old lol. Good vid TY !

Samlo is a classic location. Is this weekend or mid week? Any fitness knocking around?
In Vientiane, you can get a hooker as easy as ordering a hamburger. You simply ask the counter staff where you stay for it. He or she knows exactly what to do. You can specify what type of meat you prefer, for example, short, tall, chubby, skinny,, dark or lighter skin, age (16 and up per Lao standard). The price is negotiable, but normally 250,000 to 500,000 Lao kips for two hours. Though, the operation is illegal but it is a well known subculture that going on 24-7 anyhow.
