I've been looking at family history for so long related to my mudlarking finds - so it's been fascinating to finally pay some attention to my own family tree. I've also been playing around with animating old photos, colourising them, and sharing these with my Mum and Son! It's worth joining just to try out the photo tools to be honest!!
    __
I've found several mysterious finds on the River Thames - but nothing quite like this washed up suitcase full of clothes and flute music books. And, despite a twitter campaign and reporting it to the Police, the mystery was never solved. In this video there are also 2 messages in bottles which washed up on the foreshore. Im trying to trace the authors of one of them so you can help me by heading on over to twitter and retweeting my recent tweet about it.
The first half of my video is a very relaxing outing with my friend Fran who finds lots of little treasures.
Thank you for watching. Dont forget that if you want to try mudlarking you do need a permit from the Port of London Authority and you can find that information here:-

You can follow me on twitter and instagram @tidelineart.
    Thank you for watching!
    See you soon. Nicola

So why did I make an exception for MyHeritage? Well I've been looking at family history for so long related to my mudlarking finds but have never paid a great deal of attention to my own family tree - so it's been fascinating to finally do that and I cant believe how far I managed to go back in such a short space of time. I've also been playing around with animating old photos, colourising them, and sharing these with my Mum and the rest of my family. Take a look at the ad in this video, kindly directed by my son Angelo, and let me know what you think. (seriously, you have to try the animate feature!). oh and ps see if you can spot Angelo's feet in the video first time you watch it! Nicola xxx

What an amazing tool that My Haratage offers. I definitely want to do what you just did with your family photos.
I am fortunate to have much of my family’s history however I have a Great great aunt that dressed in buckskin living in time of the old west of America. Pistols and knife by her side.
Can’t wait to hear your family story as well.

MyHeritage appears to have been bought out by an investment firm in 2021 but is apparently being run as a private company - which is good news. Some sites that are owned by investment companies sell the mailing list so beware. Also be careful what information you share on your family trees, there are privacy laws in place now that prohibit including anyone that could still be alive but it is something to keep in mind. I actually have a name and email address that I use for no other purpose than signing up on genealogy sites and receive a whole bunch of crap advertising and such. I will understand Nicola if you delete my comment - I have nothing bad to say about MyHeritage - just a word of caution when using these sites.

Hi Nicola.... I'm sure this isn't the one you found, but several years ago I was walking over 🤔🤔🤔 Warterloo Bridge (?) Behind a woman in a big hurry who dropped the handle of her suitcase several times, which then snaped.... then as she struggled with it she managed to break a heel on her stilettos: then - in a screaming explosion of anger tears and frustration - picked up her case and tossed it in the Thames, to the slack-jawed shock of all the commuters following her. This was YEARS ago.

The young mudlarkers! So cute. It was good to see Fran. I always look forward to your videos. The music and water lapping on the shore is so peaceful. I'm enjoying the baby Swans so much. I've tried to explain your videos to my friends and they replied, "You watch some lady in England dig around in the mud for trash on the banks of a river?" Something got lost in my translation.🙄 It's 104 degrees in Texas (40 celsius) and I'm re-watching your past videos. Thank you for sharing.

I love to see children get interested in something like this. What a wonderful way to teach history. I love genealogy and it sure got me into history. When you find your interest, history comes with it. I had a friend who used to pick up bits and bobs from the ground and he called them "parking lot treasures". He would put them in bird baths in his yard or around in his landscaping, in his potted plants, etc.

If you still have the paper from the glass bottle, try putting it under a UV light. Depending on what was used to write the message, it may become visible.

Oh my goodness, there were so many great things in this video, but the children really stole the show! It was such a delight to see what they had found and hear why those items intrigued them.
At my childhood home out in the countryside, there was a creek that was about 10-12 feet deep and at least that wide in spots. During droughts, it would eventually dry up and my parents would take us for long walks on the creek bed, mudlarking, although I didn't know it had a name at the time! I always loved the history: tiny old cobalt glass medicine bottles from before screw-caps were invented, then green and clear glass bottles, little tins, the occasional baby doll head, antique bicycle parts, and beautiful mother-of-pearl interiors of huge, empty freshwater mussel shells that once were plentiful in the area but sadly died out.
It's nice to know that other kids are out there exploring the world and discovering history and treasure. ❤️

As you were the first, of now many, Mudlarking channels I subscribed to 2 or 3 year ago, you will always have a special place in my heart. I wouldn't even have a RUclips channel nor have met so many wonderful people without having found your channel. I'll never be able to thank you enough, other than hoping to help spread smiles and happiness to others. I guess at 50, I've turned into one of those sentimental types who find it important to be sure that people who deserve thanks, know that they are appreciated. I may even thank people too much, nah, never enough thanks in this world. I wanted to again, let you know how thankful I am for this. Now to watch this exciting looking video!💖😊👍🤗🥰

Thank you so much for picking up fishing line and hooks. That stuff causes so much suffering. I’m in wildlife rescue and rehab and can’t tell you how many animals get tangled up and suffer great pain and injury, often for lengthy periods of time. Or, as you said, die. I once spent a full 6 weeks, almost every day, for hours each time, trying to capture a Canada goose (she could fly, run, swim away just fine) that had line so tightly wound around the leg and for such a long time, that it was deeply buried down inside the flesh. Around and around and around, coils and coils of it. It was awful. I celebrated like you wouldn’t believe when I finally got her and was able to remove all that line and relieve her terrible pain. She spent quite a bit of time in rehab healing and was eventually released. Pick up all line, please, folks and then don’t forget to dispose of it in a manner such that it will never cause harm again. I burn any I find.
P.S. Fran is my favorite mudlarking companion of yours ❤️

You mentioned your lunch, next weekend I am supposed to meet my brother at a Cajun seafood restaurant. They have good fried crab claws and fried oysters! My brother just got back from Africa, he is activated as an Army reservist every few years, he is an Ordnance Warrant Officer, that is what Ian V. Its great that these kids are developing their curiosity, learning about history or the world and most importantly building great memories with their parents on the best days of their lives at no cost. You can put your children in soccer, swimming, hockey, dance, soccer etc. But their best memories will be the time they spent with you. Their is no better gift than time itself with your loved ones. My Daughter is 33yrs old and one of her best memories was when we really struggled financially and we would make a picnic lunch, going to the school yard to eat and play in the swings

Ah, it opens with a lovely piano concerto and sublime views of goslings and cygnets! I love the 5 Finds Challenge--I had no car for 2 years, and in that time I became fascinated by the odd bits of metal lying on the road or in the gutter. It often increased my burden by significant measure to bring some rusted oddity home with my groceries, but my treasures added quirky charm to my garden. And oh goodness me! Your video ends with even more sublime images of our waterfowl friends--and an exquisite tribute to them constructed of your finds! Gosh that suitcase is a mystery! How intriguing. I don't understand why people don't put some sort of ID in/on their travel bags even if it's just a full name and contact number. Doesn't seem like the police are interested does it.

Hello Nicola, this video was so well done. Enjoyed seeing Fran again and seeing her treasures from the Thames. The little fledgelands or ducklings are a treat to behold

Those little cygnets are goooorgeous! So soft and fluffy! Your plastic art is so poignant too. LOVED the history as well! But what I especially loved was the MyHeritage ad. I lost my beloved Father last September and my beloved Mother in February, both by natural causes, (they could never stand to be apart) and I have so many of their old photos that need repairing, plus I have an urge to know more about my ancestors, AND the animation thing amazing!!. Thank you lovely Nicola. Your videos have helped me get through my sometimes unbearable grief, more than you will ever know xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺

There you go again inspiring young ones! I think you could easily have your own mudlarking tours or classes geared toward the younger crowd, you do so well with them, it would be a joy to watch as well!💖😊
