You won't know their gender until they are older and you will have to get them tested through a feather. Handle them while they are young so they are used to you.

The most common foods that emus eat here in Australia: they also need fresh water and the will also consume small rocks to help grind up their food.
Acacia, Casuarina, Grass seeds, Various tree seeds,Sunflower seeds, Corn, Beetles, Ants, Flies,Grasshoppers, Spiders, Centipedes, Numerous fruits,
    Small rodents & Lizards
Emus have a high preference for seeds, grasses, and other food that is abundant and easy to find. It is easier and less hazardous for them to seek out and eat these meals. Emu’s also have a somewhat high protein requirement, between 15% and 20% of their diet. That is why they will opt for insects and other high-protein creatures to ingest as part of their diet.

Yes, I was going to tell you also to get in touch with MaryCarl or Jason at Cog Hill you tube channel, they handled Nugget everyday, giving him like a body massage all over and he is gentle and allows them to do anything to him. They touch him daily to keep it up. They have knowlege of feathers (birds) and can help you out with food mix, any medicines etc. Reach out to them. Emu's have a challenge surviving to grown size. Rae at Adler Farms lost her baby after a month, so get all info you can to help success. Love your videos & family!

Each of you need to pick the Emu up and hold onto them. When you hold them, hold there legs a chest. By holding their legs, you have more control of leg, that can be dangerous
If you need information, call Jason at Cog Hill. He can tell you anything you need to know. They need small pebbles to held digest their food.

I’m sure you know that Cog Hill’s female Emu laid 16 eggs and now their male is incubating the eggs. For 60 days. The female does not sit on the nest. The male does all the sitting. He does not eat or drink at all during the 60 days. So Nugget is a busy boy and Goldie is relieved of all duties. The animal world is fascinating.

Oh I just love all the babies. Those Emu chicks are so cute. I’m in Australia and we used to take the grandchildren to a farm/ village where they could pet and hand feed kangaroos, but the Emus would come and scare them because they were really big and tried to peck them to get the food. They grow so tall. And they run fast. They would be running alongside the roadway and easily keep up with the car at 60kms (about 40 mph).

I think the rolling is because they are trying to take a dust bath. Birds (and other animals) often roll around in the dirt to try to get the dust up between their feathers (or hairs) to get rid of mites, fleas, and lice. It works kinda like a dry shampoo to nock off pests and dead skin flakes, and to absorbed excess skin oils and sweat (if their species CAN sweat, birds can't of course).

You could contact Jason, Brooke and MaryCarl of Cog Hill Farm who raised their Emu Nugget. MaryCarl is brilliant when it comes to any birds. You could also check out Jake and Becky of White House on the Hill. They hatched and raised their Emus and other exotic birds. They are the first ones I ever watched with an Emu. With Jason (Cog Hill Farm) and Jake (White House on the Hill) you can find out a lot. Good Luck! 💖💖

I was thinking the same thing Rachel about hanging Kora feed bowl outside the cage beside Leesky's. She still has the auto feeder inside the cage. Also fixing the cage so both of the dogs can get inside. It will be interesting watching the Emu's grow and how the dogs get along with them.

It is wanting a dust bath! Call Mary Carl at Cog Hill Farm! I do not mind the noise of the camera! You should put the imu where you had the goose!

Kevin, spray the holes with something maybe the "wasp spray" then "great stuff" on top.
That way maybe you"ll kill'em off, worth a try anyways. 🤔❤

Watching the Emu's is nice & relaxing. From what I've seen on other channels who have raised Emus, to get them really friendly & not afraid of you. They need to be handled a lot! Not just observed. I am no expert, just an observer that enjoys watching giant flightless birds interact with humans & other species. They appear to have the capacity to become gentle giants, or dangerous predictors if miss handled. Blessings abundant to you all 💜.

Our GPs are exactly like MOJO...size, behavior, hair, etc. They also go inside the house a couple of times daily because that is how they were raised as puppies. They still hear any negative signals from the farm animals and demand to be let out immediately. They love and protect all the species of farm birds because they grew up with them. They are amazing guard dogs who love to be loved. Now they are grown and have 8 fluff balls of their own.

Nugget eats right out of the food scoop after Jason scoops it. Emu's run fast even small ones.
