I was installing a new garage service door on a house last month and the customer had a dumpster in the driveway because they were moving. Guy was getting ready to heave a large box full of golf balls in the bin and the only reason I stopped him was the box said Callaway on it. I asked him if they were balls and he replied yes. Apparently he was in charge of buying balls for tournaments and this case was the leftovers. 42 dozen balls for free. Nike, Callaway, Wilson, Srixon, Top Flight Taylor and Maxflis. I was just thrilled. I gave five dozen to my girlfriend and five to my friend and will still never have to buy another ball the rest of my life.

    • @probablynotabigtoe9407
      @probablynotabigtoe9407 4 года назад +15

Any surface scratches will increase drag and depending on the shape it can deflect the spin...
But the faster the ball is traveling it exponentially increases its effect on the flight of the ball.
Too many factors in that equation to give a definite answer. Depth, shape and amount of imperfections will all play into it.
Long story short Do Not use badly scratched balls on your drive and it shouldn't effect your game In any notable manner.

I just started playing again a month ago after 10 years of not playing. I use Noodle soft and long but that’s because my horrific slice causes me to lose a lot of them still at this point. I like the feel around the green and putting but feel they lack spin into the green and seem to run a long ways up after they hit.

Man, I remember growing up, the kids across the street and I had a nice gig going on where, when we'd go fishing down at the creek by the country club, we'd gather golf balls, clean them up, and sell them to golfers for a dollar or two. We made bank, and I had dozens and dozens of golf balls whenever I went golfing with dad. I think I still have a handful of those, all these years later.

I have bought several of the refurbished/rewashed boxes and has just noticed that there are different year balls in there. The Pro V1 font and arrows differ with the year they were released. The oldest one I have gotten was from 2003-04. Most are from 2015+. Hope this helps in anyway. I absolutely love these golf balls and for the price I'm not as scared to hit them since they are much cheaper. Walmart had/has them on clearance for $7 a dozen so why wouldnt you buy them. That is about the same price as the cheapo balls you find there. Cheers 🍻

Thank You for the Great review as always Rick!! I was told by a really good friend who actually works for this company that makes the refurbished brand golf balls. Most of the brands are refurbished in the same factory and the process is the same. There are several different grades they use when doing this process. Sometimes they will even use a different brand ball that is very similar and put a new cover on it and mark it as say a pro V1. That is why some will feel harder and not perform as well. To avoid these types of refurbished balls make sure your buying the ones that are in that brand of packaging. It is against the law to misrepresent that company so if doesn't say pro v1ect. on the box then don't buy it. Most of these online businesses are not legit nor licensed to sell these balls. Just trying to help out you fellow golfers.

Refurbished = brand new cover, original core (you're going to eventually cut it when you compress with your irons). vs. Recycled = original cover, just "reclaimed from the trees" with a basic wash. Walmart sells the latter for $14.97 in the US. Take a little extra time like I do and just go through the boxes available and make a dozen of the least blemished.

I haven't played much since I started high school, but back in the day I'd buy from the "lake balls" basket in the shop at the course. Grounds keepers dig balls out of water hazards, forest, rough, what have you, and sell them in the shop 3 for $1 or so. You could find some sweet deals in the basket if you felt like digging! I might spend a bit more if I played these days, but maybe not top dollar, since there's about 1000 things I could improve about my game before balls were the bottle neck >_

It’s odd that I hear so many people talk about the durability of the pro v1. Now I haven’t used a pro v in a few years since switching to the Bridgestones but if I find one I’ll hit it a few times to compare and I can never make it a few holes without the wedges cutting them up. Never have that issue with the tour b XS

I've been trying to cut through an Argos Commando ball since 1992...

I have a few of those lying around. Can't make my mind up whether I actually liked them or that they were just so cheap lol.

I often play Titleist NXT Tour lake balls in best quality. I honestly can't find any difference to new ones. Lots of people like MyGolfSpy say that you should avoid lake balls in any case. What's your opininon and I would love to see a similar review with lake balls!

Florian Pichler MGS was talking about balls found in the lake, not refurbished balls

@@jackchildree1491 I know. And I would be interested to see a test with lake balls.

I used Pro V1x but I am trying to shift to Pro V1 cause I got my new kit and I am not getting THE feel with Pro V1x...
Hope I feel comfortable with Pro V1 today

The great water spirit collects enough for me to fish out on a regular basis. I don't get nervous teeing up a free ball compared to a nice Pro V1. I actually only lose about 1 golf ball for 9 hole or so consistently, so all of the balls I collected in the past are still keeping me going.

I use fake snowballs. The only problem with them is everything

I've heard the Pro Vi's aren't really suitable for your 'average' golfer. The Pro V1's are designed to work with club head speed in excess of 100MPH. Most of us don't have that. If you still want to stick with Titleist, the NxTour (now the Tour Soft?) is a better match. Or so I've heard....
