the pasta preparations between china and italy are very different, that's what defines the cuisine of each. Jewish foods are foods from certain regions made the Jewish way, that's no excuse to appropriate a type of food and say that it is theirs, falafel, kebab, hummus are Arab foods, it has to do with an ethnicity. Now speaking of Israel as a Jewish state that it is, it would be a culinary of fusion of all Jewish diasporas, this includes food from Eastern Europe, Yemen, Ethiopia, Syria, Iraq, if they eat falafel because they are in that region is ok, but appropriating is not ok. How is "Israeli shawarma" any different than any other Levantine shawarma? Bottom line is that there is no such thing as an "Israeli cuisine" when literally every single dish is from another country. No other cuisine has this problem, there might be a few foreign dishes or dishes that are similar, but no other cuisine is entirely foreign.

@@hodzal5258 You know very little of Jewish culture. For many years the Hebrew language was considered among many Jewish communities as holly, and therefore, rarely used for everyday speech. This is accompanied by Jewish persecution that led many to not speak or name anything in Hebrew. As a result, many dishes were named in Arabic, German, Yiddish, etc... It is impossible to claim that the Jews invented the dishes, but it is hard to deny that the Jewish communities in the diaspora had their print on many countries' cuisines.
Jevvs lived in those diaspora communities before Islam or the Arabic language spread there through imperiaIism and coIoniaIism, and if they made their own version of it and brought it to Israel, it's definitely more Israeli than Arabic.
The way you represented Israelis (weather ypu meant it or not) as childish and ignorant, has nothing to contribute to this video. Unnecessary and made the learning experience for me (an Israeli), to be uncomfortable and even insulting. Please take it to consideration when making videos like that, especially regarding people like Israelis who suffer a lot of hate and stereotypic comments online.
Isreal is made up of immagrants from all around the world who all have the religion of Judaism in common. It as if people are to tie a certain dish or ethnic traditions to a religion it doesn't work like that food and culture is mainly based on a region that why Greek food and Mediterranean food both clearly state there region of origin. Now to say that israels food is falafel and hummus is technically correct because isreal was built by stealing the region of Palestine and the culture that is tied in the region but by no means has "isreal" actually created these dishes they just took the land and culture from the native Palestinians of the region.
You mean that the Jews of Judea, Byzantium, the Caliphates and the Ottoman Empire did not eat the foods of the region, like from before the forced Arabization of the Levant"? Any Arabian person in the Levant could be considered to have "stolen" all of those food that you consider Palestinian or Arab. Just more attempts to erase the indigenous status of the Jews/Judean to the ancestral land of Israel/Judea.
Hummus did not come from Egypt. The earliest evidence of domestication of chickpeas can be traced back what is now Turkey where chickpeas grow in the wild and the Levant (Syria, Israel, Turkey, Palestinian territories, Jordan)
I'll add something in addition, because there is many authenticitys at Israel, the authentic food changed to mech everyone, and some food combined between authentics food and the new needs of the people. Like Vegan Moroccan fish (without the fish of course), Megulgalwach made from Yemen Malawach and middle East salads... And so on And because they eat casher food it's not exactly like the authentic food. For example, my dad is Indian Jew, our Indian food is not the same food I've ate when I was at India
I'm not sure to be an a****** but I have a pretty baseline education food and I already knew that shawarma, falafel and hummus don't originate from Israel. like those are pretty commonly accepted Mediterranean foods, I don't think anyone is under the misconception that the nation of Israel birthed them
You have not listened to the video have you? The video clearly states that they do not originate from Israel yet they are still today an integral part of Israeli cuisine. These dishes originate from other countries but were brought to Israel by Jewish immigrants from that countries...
I am one of those Jewish immigrants that you mentioned. Good idea to check your facts before making a video. Did yo say Israeli Jews immigrated to Israel 150 years ago?? Ummh! The state of Israel was formed in 1948 which makes it 73 years old, so how can Jewish immigrants immigrate to Israel 150 years ago ( when this country no longer existed) until just 73 years ago for Jewish immigrants to immigrate. The biblical Israel has not existed for 1000s of years. Around 722 B.C., the Assyrians invaded and destroyed the northern kingdom of Israel. In 568 B.C., the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem and destroyed the first temple, which was replaced by a second temple in about 516 B.C. For the next several centuries, the land of modern-day Israel was conquered and ruled by various groups, including the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Fatimids, Seljuk Turks, Crusaders, Egyptians, Mamelukes, Islamists and others eventually there was no country or kingdom called Israel until 73 years ago so correction no Jewish immigrant migrated to Israel 150 years ago because it simply didn’t exist. There were of course Jews living in Palestine ,they were not immigrants, these were the Jews whose ancestors never left the region. Regarding food the majority of street food that you find in Israel is Mediterranean food typical of that region. It is not Jewish or Arabic. It is the typical food people have been eating in that region for centuries irrespective of religion. Syria,Lebanon to name a couple of neighbouring countries also eat very similar or same dishes. The Arabs and original Jews who lived in Palestine also ate almost the same food. But Jewish immigrants who came to Israel in 1948 and after brought with them the cuisine of their country initially. However except for very few exceptions majority of Israeli available ias street foo, or in markets and most restaurants are still typical Mediterranean food which has been cooked in a similar way for centuries. One does find ethnic cuisines brought in by Jewish immigrants but these are often called cuisine of the country they come not labelled as Israeli food. For example Georgian bread or Ethiopian injera or Polish stew etc. So yes Israel has a cuisine and it is the cuisine of that region which irrespective of whether or not that land was called Israel You will find the exactly same dishes in Syria,Lebanon, Iraqi etc. I am Israeli Jew ,originally my family lived in Poland.
The first wave of zionists (the first Aliya) started in the 1880s, only a little less than 150 years ago. They were indeed immigrants… and they established Rishon Letsion and Zikaron Yacov! and there had been a wave of Jews immigrating from the diaspora even before then haha. Not trying to say there weren’t Jews in the region before but I think that’s what the video was referring to with 150 years! And these were the people that brought their food customs with them :)

No there most certainly does not exist something referred to as “Israeli” food. It’s mostly a conglomeration of cuisines taken back from the diaspora communities. However, it often seems like Near Eastern (and North African) food tends to prevail in the so called Israeli state. Well that happens to be because of the mediocracy of Eastern European and Northern European food (no offense to them just an overwhelming consensus) also the high usage of pork in that cuisine makes it even less applicable.
Richie Styles I was referring to German/Scando/British/Baltic/Polish food, where most Ashkenazi resided in. French and Italian food is Southern European. It can be said that Southern European food is more developed than Northern European food because of the more moderate climate, were growing higher quality ingredients is sufficient.

Jevvs lived in those diaspora communities before Islam or the Arabic language spread there through imperiaIism and coIoniaIism, and if they made their own version of it and brought it to Israel, it's definitely more Israeli than Arabic.
Are tacos American?
Next they're going to start asking if Israeli dancing is a real thing. Unbelievable.

Shawarma is Persian.
Hummus did not come from Egypt. The earliest evidence of domestication of chickpeas can be traced back what is now Turkey where chickpeas grow in the wild and the Levant (Syria, Israel, Turkey, Palestinian territories, Jordan)

Our editor says that it was a pretty complex edit!
How do you think that people in Israel eat?
Moroccans jews foods are the best 💪😊
Israeli cuisine is literally a melting pot of all the different Jewish communities as a result of the Diaspora.
Exercise me? Back to their homeland? Wtf are you trying to say!?
I'll add something in addition, because there is many authenticitys at Israel, the authentic food changed to mech everyone, and some food combined between authentics food and the new needs of the people. Like Vegan Moroccan fish (without the fish of course), Megulgalwach made from Yemen Malawach and middle East salads... And so on
And because they eat casher food it's not exactly like the authentic food. For example, my dad is Indian Jew, our Indian food is not the same food I've ate when I was at India
It really doesn’t all the culture is arab

I'm not sure to be an a****** but I have a pretty baseline education food and I already knew that shawarma, falafel and hummus don't originate from Israel. like those are pretty commonly accepted Mediterranean foods, I don't think anyone is under the misconception that the nation of Israel birthed them
You have not listened to the video have you? The video clearly states that they do not originate from Israel yet they are still today an integral part of Israeli cuisine. These dishes originate from other countries but were brought to Israel by Jewish immigrants from that countries...
Israel is a Mediterranean country though
There is no such thing called isreal food, its all food from around the world

Antonio Muro 🇮🇱🇮🇱❤️❤️
So yes Israel has a cuisine and it is the cuisine of that region which irrespective of whether or not that land was called Israel
You will find the exactly same dishes in Syria,Lebanon, Iraqi etc. I am Israeli Jew ,originally my family lived in Poland.
Your comment was the most accurate one .

What about Limonana meorav-erushalmi (מעורב ירושלמי, Jerusalem mixed grill), chacholina, ptitim (Israeli kuskus)
Limonana and Meorav are also very much Israeli. Ptitim is a bit of a toss up, it's very similar to Orzo.
Never heard of Chacholina... צ'חולינה? חחולינה? צ'צ'ולינה?
Israeli foods are mainly different by making a different version, matzah, challah and lots more are Israeli
What are you talking about, French and Italian chefs are amazing and pork isn't really used that much, the main source of meat in Europe is beef.
Richie Styles
I was referring to German/Scando/British/Baltic/Polish food, where most Ashkenazi resided in. French and Italian food is Southern European. It can be said that Southern European food is more developed than Northern European food because of the more moderate climate, were growing higher quality ingredients is sufficient.

The dummest question ever
This Homeland that you called Israel was Cannan before the Israelities committed genocide, even then most Israelis come from Europe not the Middle East they were never indigenous to the land it should be turned back to its former glory of Canaan. It belongs to my ancestors who are Canaanites
hoda ahmad idiot. 1. The Canaanites were sea people from Greece. And they all wiped out thousands of thousands years ago.2. All the Jews are original from Israel. Israel became a land in 1312 BCE. Even before the Christianity and the Islam were existed. All the Jews lived in Israel and tens Jewish kings controlled Israel for thousands years. Until in 70 BC the Romans took Israel from the Jews and sends millions Jews out of Israel- to the exile. The European Jews are the same Jews that the Romans forced them to left Israel. All the Jews are original from Israel 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱❤️
