- Running Leadville 100 miles Ultra Marathon - an iconic trail race in the Colorado Mountains. This is a challenging 100 miles ultra marathon with very tight cutoff to complete the race. There is no secret here - this race will push you beyond your physical limits - where only your Grit, Gut and Determination can help you cross that finish line.
Curious about the trail running gear I use and recommend: check out this link

After finishing both Badwater 135 miles and Ouray 100 miles ultra marathon, this is my third challenging race of the summer, and I'm still on a 100 miles race every months (21 so far). I’ve raced it twice already, once under 25hrs, and the other time just barely made it to earn my Leadman pick axe. Moreover, if I complete it this year, this will be my 30th 100 miles ultra marathon. But I also came in with an odd feeling - somehow knowing that this wouldn't be an easy one.
This year, the weather was particularly hot, which is both a blessing and a curse. No biggie, I can run in the heat thanks to Badwater 135. What I didn't account for was a salt pills getting stuck in my throat at mile 40. I got violently sick, and the rest of the race was a slug fest, never able to get back to eating and having lost so much fluid and calories. It'll take more to stop me, but that certainly made for an...interesting day! Now I wonder - can I ever race back under 25hours? Maybe next year!
Thanks for watching!

I'm sad that Leadville is behind us, and so is the summer of adventuring. But, Mogollon Monster coming up next week, and I've just learned earlier today (!) that I've moved from waitlist to entrant for The Bear at the end of Sept!
The Journey never stops and neither the pain or suffering❤😂
that's the beauty though, it's every year, and now it's 2 days away! See you on the start line.... or somewhere on Hope.
@@ericperramond3463 Good luck!
Talking poo is where I draw the line. Best quote ever!!
Old school South Park has some amazing gems!
Congrats Simon! You're a badass and so is Nora. Thanks for the great movie.
Thanks! Yes very proud of her too! 40 miles is a lot to pace! Because she has to stay active and watch out for me (plus all the crewing!). She earned some time off for Mogollon Monster this weekend - I’ll race solo despite her being in the area
A pleasure to watch, thanks for showing us all the levels of ultra running in high def!! Hidi Ho !! Shawn
Absolutely incredible, congratulations!! I laughed out loud at your humor, got teary eyed at the opening speech, and a little nauseous at the thought of you planting a big kiss on Nora after vomiting! 😂It was a roller coaster of emotions!! I always get the warm fuzzies watching the golden hour of any race... it's more exciting to me than the first hour of finishers! The fact that Nora still found you cute when you were sweaty, struggling, and vomity, as she paced you 40 miles, is true love! And you, clinging to the thought that you just had to cover a few more miles before you could see her. So stinking sweet!! Honestly, you're a huge inspiration to me... if you can crank out these tough 100 milers, working through half the distance while in a bad place physically and mentally, then surely I can tackle my first, easy 50 miler this fall!! Can't wait for your upcoming video!
Nora's face when I puked cracks me up! She felt guilty because she's the one who proposed the salt pills - but come on, how could we predict the outcome!
She paced 40 miles which is kind of nuts, and although Mark and LeAnne and Katie helped, she was also officially my only crew. So big day for her!
I finally got around to watching some videos that have been in my que for a while :) Congrats on finishing Leadville! Well done. Love your humor and the South Park insertions - haha. I was having my lunch while watching and almost 'had a moment' when your puking segment came up (pun intended).
Thanks! I guess it came out of nowhere in the movie just like during the race - without much heads up!
So inspirational! Loved the video. Also that puke river was something else! Good job 👏 🎉
And that color! I guess I had more (red) roctane than I realized...
Great race vlog, loved watching it while on the treadmill - the first person view bits on the trails almost made me feel part of the experience! Great stuff! The raw honesty and humor made it memorable too! I will make a playlist with all your race vlogs to watch on future treadmill runs - much more fun to watch than my Zwift avatar 😅
Thanks !
I made a list with all the races video if that's helpful :)

love this gritty side lets gooo
Thanks!
This is a Deathmarch :) .. that was hillarious
It felt so bad lol You want to run so badly, but I was just so empty and in pain. Walking was all that was left
Looking at the results, it looks we were right next to each other heading right into Halfpipe. Watching your video, I see myself and another ultra-trail RUclipsr right in front of you at about the 16:55 mark (pink shoes, red pack, black Saucony t-shirt with pink lettering that shows up more clearly in the next couple shots). I ended up finishing (youngest ever finisher from all sources I have) but it wasn't pretty, hope to maybe see you out there again next year! Good job!
Congratulations! Youngest finisher, that's impressive!
Congratulations 👏👏👏💪💪💪
Thank you! It wasn't always pretty, but we made it!
Way to grind. The hurt sucks when it comes especially when it’s unexpectedly early. Great job gritting your teeth for 60 for that buckle.
Thanks! Yes exactly- and the hurt follows you for a loooong time!
What a war zone! The suffer fest on the climbs was real. Nice work!
Seriously! That way back Hope was something - everyone in the pain cave!
And it's sad/hard mentally because on your way up, you can see people coming down, and you kinda know they won't make it in time...
@@runningwithsimon all parts and pieces one most likely doesn’t prepare for mentally or expect to be susceptible to. Keep up the great content!
that was great!!!
Thanks Mate!
Double layer socks... I swore by that in the Army... it works, for me anyway
Thanks for your service!
Yup, was a game changer when I started doing that hiking - and eventually moved it to running.
Amazing views. Just a tip: you could save your breath during the race and then add audio commentary in iMovie after. That might help.
Where is that location in the intro? Is that Copper Mtn Resort or....? Thanks. Looks cool would like to go there.
With the lake and zipline? Yes it's copper mountain, in some room that was posted on airbnb. It's very hard to find a room in Leadville on race week, so we always stay in copper or frisco.

This definitely got texted to you. haha
Yup!
