Yay🎉 a new Woodshop Diaries installment, and it literally checks all the boxes: plywood, pocket holes, elegant simplicity, a couple of cool design twists, clear and concise explanations of complicated concepts, a bloodmobile t-shirt, the little wire globe in the glamour shots, and (most importantly) a generous serving of animal appearances! I really like how the case floats on the disappearing black legs, and how the top floats above the case. Your friend is getting a couple of unique consoles! Oh, and one more thing… I’m not certain, mind you, but I think it might be important to keep the pocket holes at least a half inch back from the front 😂🤣🤪.
How did you watch this so early! Haha-I’m glad you enjoyed it and kept track of the checklist. Even the bloodmobile t shirt 😆 I just delivered this over to my friend yesterday and she loved them…that’s a win! 🙌 I so appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend! Bubs and Lou say hello! 🐶🐈
Was excited to see you have another video this weekend and the project turned out beautiful! I like the arched doors real well. I got the plans for the similar console cabinet you previously built because I liked it so well and have the plywood and supplies. Just waiting for our temps in AZ to cool down so I can get to work on it. Poor Lucy doesn't like the storms but nothing seems to phase Bubby!
I hope these tips about the doors help you with that build. I didn't explain much about the hinges in that video and I've had several questions about it over the years. I was glad I could revisit that concept here to share some tips! I'd love to see it when you get it finished! We had a MUCH cooler weekend here and it gave us a tiny taste of fall. Hopefully your temps in AZ cool down for you soon. Bubs and Lucy (and me, of course!) wish you a wonderful weekend and appreciate you watching. Happy building 🙌
I like how you did the doors on that, and I really like the black base! FYI - there are half-overlay frameless hinges made specifically for cabinets like this.
Thanks so much! Years ago, I bought what was advertised as a "partial overlay frameless hinge" and when I got it, I didn't see any noticeable differences between a "full" and a "partial" overlay hinge. It wasn't a Blum and I got it from Amazon, so they very well could have sent me the wrong item or they could have just advertised it wrong. Or I could also just not be very observant haha. But since the full overlay hinges were cheaper, easier to find, and gave me all the adjustment I would want, I didn't really understand why a partial overlay hinge would be needed. I'm sure there's a reason, but I've not found it yet 😅
Shara, I love your artistic expression with the floating top and arch in the doors. I guess I had better start looking for a place for a console cabinet and when I find it I'll be buying your plans for sure. Hope you're enjoying a beautiful summer. It's been hot here so when it get towards a 100 in the shop it kind of slows me down. Hugs to Lou and Bubs. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂P.S. In my old age I usually need some help keeping my boards oriented so a tip I saw was to use chalk to label "top" and "bottom", "left side", "right side" etc. Drawing arrows works good too. This really helps me and the chalk is easily removed by very light hand sanding.
Thank you so much! This cabinet was SO similar to the one I shared several years ago that I was afraid this would just be a boring copy (I guess it kind of is a little haha), but the doors really give it a totally different look. I hope you're enjoying a wonderful summer as well! Our weather felt like fall this weekend and it was GLORIOUS. Hoping the temps where you are cool down soon. That's a great tip about the labels! Happy building and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Love the layered-up door design! One thing I would recommend is to cut overlay 1/4” ply to size, but to slightly oversize the thicker base layer and then use a router to flush trim so the edges match perfectly. It can very difficult to cut 2 panels exactly the same and then to glue them together perfectly matching each corner and edge. Flush trimming after will give some buffer for errors to people like me who don’t always nail it.
That’s a great tip. I avoid the router at all costs though 😆🙈 I actually used my kreg rip cut to make my 1/4” and 1/2” plywood for the door panels exactly the same width. Everyone always tells me it can’t be accurate-but it absolutely is. I didn’t trim these at all once they were glued together.
The best part about your videos is that the tools and methods of joining are within reach for home woodworkers - no super fancy planers and jointers. I have totally adopted your build techniques. By the way Blum (and others) do make a half-overlay concealed hinge.
Thank you--I'm so glad you enjoy the simplicity! Great observation. It’s why Shara is my favorite woodworker creator. There’s no shrine to Festool wall in the background to intimidate hobbyists to get into this. ❤
Shop Cats for the win! I hope to do this build with my tween/teen daughters. Also, you've grown stronger since the beginning. You toss and flip the builds around with little effort now. Congrats!
Another excellent build! The design looks great and your explanation on adjusting the doors was very helpful. I always look forward to your next build. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you so much! I didn't explain this on the older console project I mentioned in the video and I've had several questions over the years. I wanted to revisit that concept and explain it in detail. I hope it was helpful!
I really love this, I'm currently learning about woodworking as I design some stuff. Glad to see it's possible because one armoire concept I'm working on has arched doors. Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya.
A very nice design! I always enjoy your details and the rational behind each step you explain. Another beautiful work of art! Glad that Lou and Bubs made their appearance! Hope you all are having a great weekend and please keep on building Shara!

3:11 Ah, Lucy getting the unwanted camera time. That means Bub will make an appearance, purely out of jealously. 😂 4:37 And there he is. Spoiled rotten. 😂😂😂 Another awesome episode, Shara! Youve got this wonderful ability to produce something so beautiful but making it look easy. Its enough to trigger the desire to go make something! Thanks!
The jealousy between the two is strong 😆 true siblings haha. I’m so glad you enjoyed the project and I hope it did inspire you to make something fun! Thank you so much for watching and I hope you Enjoy your weekend! 😎
Excellent, I just found your channel and I've subscribed. Your work is explained very well and is well done and beautiful. I was amazed at how you carry the plywood board. It's actually heavy for a woman. Greetings from Mexico.
Amazing. Seen almost each of your videos, but again it is a pleasure to watch. Nothing new, but always a new look of your cabinets 👍 While watching your videos i wonder when Bobby will appear 😸
I worked in a cabinet shop in high school. I was there for 3 years and by the time I left they had me doing everything from start to finish. I had 2 kids and so I've been pretty busy but recently I've started getting back into wood work. Your channel has been amazing (I've only been following you for a day 😂) You explain everything so well and you are so skilled! I can't wait to start on some new projects for around the house!
They're definitely the start of the build haha. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them come together. Thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful weekend!
Nice looking floor cabinet. Love the idea for the doors. Seems like a pretty simple build. Great job and I always look forward to your videos. Have a great weekend Shara. Steve
Thank you so much! It was definitely a simple build. Sometimes those are the most enjoyable 😅 I hope you have a wonderful weekend and happy building! 😎
I know you posted that this particular build didn't quite resonate in metrics the way others have. I personally love it, and is a great template to follow for creating a credenza/buffet style cabinet. That being said, as a huge MCM fan, if/when I was to build it I would adapt your door technique to do a "Broyhill Brasilia" style double arch for each door, just without the 3D sculpted effect of a true Broyhill line (beyond my skill level!).

Shara Plywood Shop Diaries drops another excellent build video! How do you apply the edge banding at the corners without creating a visible seam (specifically those on the top of drawer boxes)? I’ve not been able to.
Thank you! I’m not sure what you mean exactly? You’ll see a seam where two pieces butt together like on drawer boxes because the banding will be going two different directions. Maybe this post will help: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-to-cover-plywood-edges/ In it, I explain how I apply edge banding and there are several close up photos there as well.
@@WoodshopDiaries Thanks - good post. My takeaways...a heat gun won't substitute for an iron (!), and I need to apply the edge banding before assembling the drawer boxes. Appreciate it! You do amazing work with plywood.

Really a sharp looking build. Another solution to the shelf pins would have been to drill every other hole, 1, 3, 5 on the left side and 2, 4, 6 on the right side.
Thanks so much! That's a great tip--but I know how I am and I would definitely end up mixing up my holes and not drilling the right ones on the right side 🙈😂

Wow, I’m a bit shocked that you didn’t use a router template for all the arches.
I avoid the router whenever possible 😆 it’s my least favorite tool. It may have been more accurate for the arch, but the jig saw was WAY quicker and did a great job for it.
Why not adjust the shelf pin holes horizontally? I'd be a mess if I couldn't get the shelves on both sides to be even 😂
