Thank you DaKine, Quivers, and Finatic for supporting the Shred Show community through their sponsorship of this episode. Thank you Channel Islands for giving me the board in this video without charge. All opinions are my own.
I have a 6'2 hi 5 and absolutely love it! I surf in Southern New Jersey and this board works from 1-2' knee high to 4-5' and head high!
It feels like you are having more fun lately!
Keep on just doing what you are doing :))
I must say I used finatic because of you and its awesome but I really wish the had a west coast location i surf mainly ventura so waiting for them from florida is kind of a pain.
Ever since I bought my 5'7 Joe my other boards have been collecting dust. Such a fun board in 2-4ft weak east coast waves. The MINI looks like the perfect compliment to the Joe when the waves are a little cleaner, bigger, and or more powerful. Would love to demo one, but there is no place on Long Island that has them.
Looks like a really fun board!
Hey Shred Nation, Been following your channel and its really helpful.
Appriciate the effort you put in for every surfboard review you've done.
I'm in a dilemma of buying CI Mini or Lost Puddle Jumper. If you're to pick between CI Mini and Lost Puddle Jumper on a mushy, small and weak wave, which one will you pull out from your quiver? Which one is more fun, cruisy feel and has more turning capability if you were to push it? wave range wise which one can handle the most types of wave?
I mostly surf in WA Perth if that helps.
Hope to hear back from you.
Regards,
this was a funny episode haha: I completely agree, the right volume for the right wave solves 95% of the problem with channel islands boards. I use a #4 at 32L for groveling. it's probably very similar in feel to a mini at 32L. thing glides like an ice cube across the floor in 3 foot waves. best regards, H
Love your show, can you do a show on the tomo evo?
Thank you lee
great episode. do you know what the differences are between this board and the Super Fling? they look very similar. thanks.
Dude the Mini sounds awesome. I got a CI Average Joe about 6 months ago and I've been having a blast. I love these small grovelers so much more than the in-between fun size boards. Hoping to just work my way up the CI series as I get better and better and need more performance. In the meantime, Average Joe is GREAT!
hey shred show could u do a review on the neckbeard I have one and its a great boards and it should get some more credit 👍
I'm 6'1" tall and I weigh about 160 lbs. right now I'm surfing a 6' 0" Chemistry Honey Dip and I love it!!! I'm looking for another board to get to specifically surf Ocean Beach. What board would you recommend for my weigh/height and that wave. Or would you recommend talking to a shaper and going the custom route? Thanks!!! And keep up the good content.
My good sir. Where do pray tell do I find these videos that you have taken clips from?
Shakkahs and Aloha's from Sunshine Coast Australia.
great vid it'll be my next board for sure
+Zach Attaqr Come back and tell us what you think after you surf it!
Any chance of getting a board that someone would of rode in the Eddie. I will never ride waves like that in my lifetime but am interested in how they differ from the common Shortboard. Cheers Muzza in downtown Australia
Any plans on reviewing the Evo?
can you review living in ventura country vs other California areas in the region when it comes to surf and community.
How do you think the MINI would ride on a quad setup of AM2 techflex? This would be ridden at beach breaks.
hi shred show you should do a show about the js air 17 surfboard
D M J's reference, priceless. hooah sir yes sir
When a test on the Fred stubble?
Ahhh I was hoping this was the peregrine lol but the mini looks really sick, what fins were you riding in it ? And I can get you into military beaches in Hawaii lol
+Jeff Holmes Peregrine coming soon. Fins: Tech 2 Honeycomb CI fins. FCS 2 tab. Same fins you see at 5:25 in this video.
+Shred Show I was just looking up the new tech 1 and tech 2 am2 on the Channel Islands site .. Is the tech 1 the same as the futures honeycomb and the tech 2 like the techflex? I noticed there a little smaller too then the futures am2 was trying to figure out what's different about them but there site isn't very helpful lol
thank you
Dear @shredshow, I got a mini, which is 5.5 and is 29.9 v, I bought it new at the store. My weight is 65kg, and i find the size and volume very difficult. I don't catch many waves and i feel very awkward on the board. Do you have any suggestions? should i sell? I really would like a fish or something like that i love the style of Rob Machado. Thank you. and all the best. Molly.
Hi guys,
I've just got a new summer quiver which i'm trying to get my head around:
5'7 x 21 7/8 = 36.6L C.I Ave Joe
5'8 x 20 1/4 = 37.4L C.I Fishcuit
5'9.5 x 19 7/8 = 31.5L DHD Twin Fin
My Question is, how would you breakdown the three boards for selection of conditions?
Where would you sit each board?
And is worth moving one on due to the overlap?
Cheers,
Rob
Is Lost's LayZBoy (LayZToy) their version of CIs Average Joe??? Gracias.
this board doesnt leave my side. easily handles hh waves. ride it as a quad. it is almost an EXACT copy of the Superbrand Fling...CI just turned the rails down a bit more. the Fling will also get up and go in waves with some punch. Volume is important but i ride mine below my norm due to the flat rocker.i suppose i look at: rocker over volume. obviously this doesnt mean a 250lb dude should ride a 4'11'' x 2 1/4'' mini...
+jacobs akcat Thanks for sharing!
what, how much is it to try out a board?
Do you want to pick the board up a bit more?
can u do timmy patterson surfboards
This show is the fucking tits!! Im in the market for a new board and you guys have the perfect in depth review on every single board I have been contemplating. (and ive looked at around 10-15!)
can you please do a roundnose fish by lost, the have the timber tech ones that are damn sexy
Hi Chris...I'm about to buy a CI surfboards, but rather than the MINI I was thinking about the Pod Mod, do you have any thoughts about it...I know it looks grovely, but the pulled in tail and the rocker maybe place it in another category...
I rode a pod mod in 5-8 the other week at ventura being my my bunnychow was in the shop getting ding repair and i hadnt had many surfs on the pod mod being it winter and in cali the waves have pretty much warrented a longer board with more rocker... but with that said i think if you get the pod mod say 4in shorter than your height even though some say you should even go up to 6in shorter it can definitely handle some bigger surf i will say 6-7 is its limit though anything more and the drop is just to sketchy but that said i would get a pod mod over a mini just my thought.
The pod mod can honestly really excel in 4-6 if you get it a little bit longer but still the right volume for you again that might warrent a custom which mine is but It has really turned into my everyday board cuz it can still easily do 2-3 even 1-2
Thank you very much for pieces of advice...I'm gonna order it today! Your suggestions really helped me make my mind
I have not rode the Mini but I will have to disagree with you that there is not much difference in the boards in this category. I have the Pod Mod and the Average Joe and there is a huge difference in the way they surf. I have had a Average Joe from 5'1" to 5'9" and ended up keeping the 5'3" and the 5'9" for different kinds of waves. I use my 5'9" for San Onofre & Blackie's or when the waves are very small. I use the 5'3" for weaker waves around HB and Newport. I found that when the waves get a little more punch I switch to my 5'2" Pod Mod. If is a little better or bigger I recently have been using the HS Merlot, Awesome board, but also have a Sampler that is just as fun. I would say those boards are very similar in shape and surf characteristics. You should do a review of both those side by side. Great videos...keep up the great work!
rusty smoothie?
I watched this again I forgot to mention , I had a average joe and you wanna order that thing as short as possible , I had a 6'0 I ordered it a few years ago when I didn't surf for about a year I thought I would need something with a lot of float and forgiving but after a few months I felt like I was on a shortened longboard because it was to big and had to sell it.
+Jeff Holmes Agree. Short and on the low side of volume range.
talk about a finless cuttlefish by vandasurf
Is that wave at Point Loma?
+gbscott4 Sadly no :(
Seriously just wait for the new shred shows on the daily........
i like the average joe
what exactly is your understanding of an advanced surfer a beginner / intermediet
+Paco Lino My take: advanced surfer cant take the board to any place they want on the wave in control, intermediate can get to most of the wave and is in control half the time, beginner, had little control of where they are on the wave and mostly struggling just to keep going.
RIP Quivers - I will miss you
its a thumbtail hypto krypto
+omallykaboose nope this is a rounded squash place on a Skinny Fish, released about 6 yrs prior to the Hypto
