A fun fact for anyone who didn't know: the third member of that pre-Daft Punk band Darlin' was Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz. The band had a reunion (so to speak) in 2010 when Phoenix played at Madison Square Garden and Daft Punk joined them during the encore.
Crazy, I just listened to this for the first time last night. Something About Us literally had me wiping away tears. I once assumed Daft Punk was JUST dance music. How ignorant I was.
"Something About Us" makes me tear up every time I listen to it. It has a new meaning each time you listen to it. Sometimes it makes me nostalgic for the bygone days of my childhood. Sometimes it makes me think about lost love and how some things just don't work out. Sometimes it makes me downright sad but it always gives me hope that better days will come. It's a goddamn masterpiece and one of the best song to exist period.
they won the game man, having been one of the most successful artists ever, changing music history forever and inspiring millions of music lovers. on top of all that they went out on their own terms, no bad break up, no arguments, no disputes. they won the game.

ruclips.net/video/5QwOpRh-IfI/видео.html&ab_channel=Tracklib another channel with basically the same visuals. I wish more people showed samples in this way. much more appealing than just playing audio back to back
Human After All’s an underrated album which showcased Daft Punk’s heavier side. Robot Rock, despite being lazy when it comes to the sampling, is still one of my favorite songs by them
There's some good stuff there, but it's a repetitive mess. It's like they thought the middle section on Discovery was good and made an entire album like that.
I don't understand why robot rock is so appreciated, when it's really repetitive and the coolest thing on that song (the main riff) is completely stealed. I know that they always sampled, but songs such as One more Time creat something new sampling, robot rock isn't something new to me
Their Tron Legacy soundtrack is one of the best scores I've heard in cinema. They also had a guest appearance in that movie as themselves. Truly a unique duo.
That is the magic (and incredible talent) of Todd Edwards. His sampling is unrivalled. He also sounds great on the vocals too. Daft Punk picked a legend to work with for good reason.
Discovery is legitimately the only album I can listen to all the way through without skipping a track. I'm so devastated that I will never be able to see them live.
My favorite song by them is Veridis Quo. Not a common one, but the music video paired with the song tells a heartbreaking story without saying anything.
They also knew how to make an AMAZING live show that was a goddamn experience that you couldn't get anywhere else. Alive 2007 was truly something I wished I could have seen live.
Every time I hear “One More Time” a smile comes to my face, specially when remembering my childhood memories with that song playing on the radio 😭 I’m going to miss these guys so much...
This is my absolute favorite band and I really waited for you to make a video about them! While I'm really Spotify influenced and normally don't like to listen to full albums (I know this doesn't seem to be a great taste for music just consuming short tracks and such), I always liked their albums and most tracks are so well made. Most of the time there is just one melody that repeats itself over and over and gets a little mixed up with other elements, but because every track has just this beautiful rythm and clean melody I really like a lot of their tracks and it doesn't get boring if you have a lot of them to hear!
At 8:40 I heard that drop from Robot Rock and I was like, wait I know this sound. That's used by Sub Focus as sample in "Rock it". I've known both for years and suddenly it clicked :)
GOODNESS GRACIOUS GOD ALMIGHT another master piece jeez i can not say how much i love the editing style the captivating script and visuals perfect story telling good god well done there isnt something youve made i didnt like well done ive never even explored daft punk and im definitly going to now
One more time was the first dance track I ever heard that didn’t annoy me like the other dancepop I heard on the radio before Thank you daft punk for introducing me into a completely new genre
The best video you made in a while. Discovery is one of those albums that shaped my taste in music and to hear you explain it so deeply was extremely touching and informative. Keep going man.
Discovery is a perfect album for me, one reason for it is because it has some kind of dramaturgical flow to it not used to albums or musicians even caring for it that much, as it seems. Not only are the songs all great, and I mean all of them, they're in the right order, supporting each other, so you want to listen through and not cherry-pick the best songs like usual and listen to them all over, ignoring the rest of the album for the most part. When I heard there's a movie out after listening to it for a reasonable amount of times, I thought that fits and that this was planed from the beginning to be a story told with tones and less words. They may have made the deal later but I think there always was that idea behind it and I love that approach. Discovery is the album I undoubtedly listened the most to, it doesn't need an explaination if you like something, if it touches a nerve but that would be my explaination for loving it. And let's talk about the appropriately named Too Long, it's the ending of all endings and sooo in the right spot there. I usually don't like long movies, series and songs that overstate their welcome and this one just doesn't, it's wow... 6:42 And ok, this image here is clever enough to let me think the idea of the video's artstyle came from that...
I remember blasting Daft Punk during my robotics engineering course back in high-school. Working after school until the fading sunset for national and world tournaments, hearing all the other after school clubs and programs in the background as Veridis Quo and Touch play gave such a good vibe. In those moments when I had yet to discover how big the world was, only Daft Punk and technology mattered to me in that small room.
This is an absolutely amazing video that shows a great level of dedication to researching the subject. Thank you soo much for making this! Discovery has always been my favorite album.
Thanks for this nostalgic trip into Daft. Also, thank you for saving your promo for the end of the video. I stop watching other people's videos when it happens in the middle.
Listening to Daft Punk gives me so much nostalgia since my dad would always play their stuff when I was younger. Discovery is one of my favourite albums and it makes me happy to see it acknowledged by a channel as awesome as yours, so thank you 👍
While RAM was my first exposure to the band, Discovery was always my favorite album they put out. While I love Rocking with these Robots, their breakup shows us that they were Human After All. Thank you Daft Punk, and thank you Middle 8 for making this wonderful video highlighting their work.
I played One More Time for my infant daughter the other day and I swear she started grooving to it. It was awesome. I've also been playing lots of Ween to her. You should do a video on them!
That was insanely good, loved the way you portrayed their helmets getting changed throughout each album, gotta say that old LED look is something else, and the new look is just classy looking. They really made the robots a part of the music in a way no other artist probably will.
I love the attention to Something About Us. It is indeed, a hugely underrated masterpiece. I'd argue its their best song of all time, but it's honestly hard to choose with how good all of their stuff is
Crescendolls is my favourite track on the album I find that synth line beyond insane especially when blended with “Television” on alive 2007 that is pure candy flip destruction music
I hate that I never got to see them live. They came to my city and I was just too broke to go. I’m glad I can still listen to their songs all the time forever.
another day, another reason to cry about Daft Punk's breakup
Real talk.
aah i felt that
It's so true

Phoenix and daft punk always felt like they were on different sides of the same spectrum
this blows my mind
That was also the last time Daft Punk played to a paying crowd.
yeah, I learned that a few months ago when researching stuff about Phoenix, cool band btw I recommend their stuff
Damn damn damn that is amazing! i love Pheonix, wish i could have been their to witness it live

There's some good stuff there, but it's a repetitive mess. It's like they thought the middle section on Discovery was good and made an entire album like that.
I'd also say Human After All had a bigger influence in ushering all the dirty Electro of the mid & late 00s than Discovery

I’m still very sad about their break up. They’re a huge part of my childhood and shaped my taste in music and art.

Mate, loved how you visualised the samples.
daft punk will be gods amongst the music industry. they will live long in history, i can garentee it.
They didn't really do music for the fame or money that's why daft punk is awesome too
The most beautiful love letter to the duo who brought funk, disco, rock, house and so much more together. They'll be missed.
