Plumber vs. electrician in 2021? Choosing between plumber and electrician isn't about "which is a much better occupation" because, in general, none is better than the other. Both of them are important in today's society, so it is more about "which suits your taste."
In this post, I provide 4 factors that can help you choose between the two, which are:
Plumbers and electricians have similar wage growth.
There are far more job postings for electricians than plumbers.
Entrepreneurship may be better for plumbers.
Electricians are a little more curious, and plumbers are a bit more orderly.
    Let's get started.
You don't need to get a bachelor's degree before you become a plumber or an electrician. Both occupations are skills-based, so having a high school diploma is enough. But a certificate and/or a license is required, so you really have to go through formal training before you can work.
One of the most important factors that must be considered is whether the payment is worth the effort. But the thing is, plumbers and electricians both have to work with their hands so that both occupations can be tiring. So, the question is, between the two, which pays more?
Well, would you believe me if I said that there isn't that much of a difference when it comes to the amount a plumber is getting and to that of an electrician?
Are there more faucets and pipes to fix than broken electric wires to work with? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it is the latter: There were 688,620 electricians and 442,870 plumbers in 2019, so electricians were more in demand.
What if you prefer working independently? Should you be a plumber or an electrician? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 8% of plumbers and 5% of electricians are self-employed. Given that, there is no right or wrong answer. Both occupations suit your desire to work by yourself!
In fact, to date, there are 442,870 employed plumbers and 688,620 employed electricians. 8% of 442,870 is 35,429 and 5% of 688,620 is 34,431. The total numbers aren't far from each other at all.
However, we must consider the 3% difference. Why are there more self-employed plumbers than self-employed electricians?

The thing to consider when it came to employment/self employment - The plumber may be self employed, creating their own hours and working for themselves, on avg makes only $1000 dollars less a year - so we can exclude the money aspect with such a small gap. The electrician usually has a good pension and benefits provided by the company/union they work for, and I'd assume less working hours compared to self employed. Cons to both types of employment and perks.

Hi guys , I need your help !!
I'm wanting to become either a plumber or a Electrician and just would like to know out of both jobs who would be caught more in the roof ? I'm aware of the digging involved with plumbing , I would just love to know which trade (plumbing/electrical is less in the roofs as I have a serious condition that does not react we with heat . Thank you so much guys !

im no pro, but i work in attics doing insulation (hope to change that soon). generally you dont want your plumbing in the attic especially if you are in a cold climate zone due to freezing pipes. just thinking about it, lights go in the ceiling water fixtures and outlets are generally in the wall or floors , so i would assume more attic work for electricians.

I’m in the same boat. For the past year I’ve been thinking about becoming an electrician or a plumber. My dad told me to become an electrician cause he worked with them. But I’ve talked to an electrician and he told me if he can go back he’d rather do plumbing. I’ve watched videos on plumbing jobs and electrician jobs and plumbing does look more simple vs electrician. Electrician work looks very complicated and demanding to me, also scary because it is electricity.

$69,000 a year in 2021 I don't know where you got your numbers from. But they're way off. My dad was earning that much like 30 years ago and he's an industrial master electrician. I've got a friend of mine who works as an industrial master electrician as a contractor does a lot of work for Mercedes-Benz plant and other plants around. And he makes over $150,000 a year. I'm not sure exactly how much but he just bought a brand new $450,000 house about two years ago he's got a brand new Harley. He bought a brand new Corvette ZR1 convertible in 2019 has a brand new Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye a brand new bass boat two brand new four-wheelers and two brand new jet skis and a dirt bike. He makes a lot of fucking money. And I know this from seeing it with my own eyes there's no way he's going to buy all that shit on $69,000 a year. You're way off and he was bringing home $3,800 every two weeks after tax and insurance.
That's at least $150,000 before tax

    • @CareerWatch
      @CareerWatch  2 года назад +1

Yeah its an average nationally for employed electricians. Not the self employed. It also doesn't include overtime or benefits. Total compensation can definitely reach 150k and more for contractors. Contractors own their own business and aren't tracked by the government.

@@CareerWatch not to mention this is comparing master electricians to a huge field.... I know base electricians making 23k, also know a master electrician working for himself making 70k(by choice could be more) and his son teaches the master electrician school.... making even more.... but worker bee employees as electricians... his numbers are pretty accurate.
