A random thought popped into my head and I have nowhere else it may be seen...ZG hardmode activated by the order in which bosses are killed. Like if you go the 'shortcut' route it's just normal ZG, but following another path could change some boss mechanics & damage/health values with additional or new rewards for the harder fight. Still the 'same content', but with a little extra for those who can.

We, (those that left), all want the happy feelings to return, but those that don't return know why. We don't want the woke. We don't want the flamboyant alphabet people shoving ideas into the game that censor things and make normal people try to feel others "triggers". We don't want the trolls, but can handle them if there are none in a guild. We want the cool raid experience, but not the long wait times for people to get online, or go afk, or sign up and not show...that's why experienced people become solo players, so the cool raid experience goes away. We want the ability to play the game without the nerf bats because people don't want to "learn" the class, but would rather play victim to it being too hard and having developers who have no idea how to balance screw it all up. We want to be able to put in tickets about bots, and have them responded to. We want to be able to play what WoW once was, not what WoW is.

I played Vanilla WoW when it came out but I was very young, didn't understand the game, and could only play when my parents weren't on and my siblings weren't hogging the computer - or arguing enough to get us grounded.
When Classic WoW was announced I was excited to learn why my parents and uncle talked so fondly about this game and what made this game so good. Sure I probably had a small amount of nostalgia but I was much older and understood how MMOs work.
Classic WoW in my opinion, is a perfect MMORPG. The classes are simple to pick up and play but have a ton of complexities that are rewarding to master. The world is deadly and alive. There is barely any instant travel which means you have downtime between objectives, and this designed downtime is what's missing in current MMOs. It gives you the option to get up and walk around, to check messages and chat with friends, to double check what objectives you are working next. You don't feel like you're on a railroad going from one destination to the next thanks to the downtime you have between destinations.
Do I wish the classes were better balanced? Yeah.
Classic WoW isn't a perfect game, but it IS a perfect MMORPG experience that no MMORPG, including WoW, has been able to replicate.
I only just realized this after being frustrated losing yet another character in Classic Hardcore and this time I'm going agane but I've deleted the guide addon (though I'm still keeping Questie).

I only dinged 60 2 days ago because I took my sweet time with profs, exploring, meeting people. And the community is still very much alive. A lot of people level a ton of alts so I find no problem finding a group for any dungeon on any level. Yesterday I hopped in a premade for AB and had a great evening on discord talking to some random people playing some bg’s.

When we were kids the idea of “zooming” through and skipping everything made sense. We wanted the end goal. The prize. Every kid does. Now that we’ve gotten older we appreciate and understand better the journey, a community that we can build and belong in, and the time it takes to become great. Unfortunately over the years the game lost that meaning, but I think there is a resurgence back to its roots. It’ll take some time, but it’ll get there.

    • @clarksmith494

The issue is not "end goal vs the journey". The issue is wow constantly deletes all your progress and drastically extends it's own power creep. Now I'm back for a second round of classic. Somehow I enjoy things a lot more now. The nostalgia, setting as slow a pace as I like, taking time to help others even on their quests, focus on levelling fishing for a few hours. Play a new class, taking the time to actually read the quest lines once in a while. All things that actually add to the enjoyment of the game.

This is spot on and very relatable. We all wish we can go back but the gaming of landscape has changed so much. I feel a lot of us on classic both love and hate parsing culture and the current landscape of gaming. Hands down though going back for an expansion is not the same as going back for "fresh". I really think it could have been a popular idea for blizzard to add 1 new pve and 1 new pvp server everytime they launch a "new" expansion for classic wow. Make it fresh characters only and launch the day of the expansion (or even a week or two before for a pre-leveling phase). Don't allow any server transfers so it's a brand new economy etc. I think this might attract more players back to the classic servers who are hesistant because of the current state of existing players gold, achievements gdkps etc. Just food for thought.

There's a lot more to it than that. There was no meta, no 877349857345 streamers or guides to tell/teach you what the best approach is or addons like restedexp that make you a slave to the yellow arrow and so on. You had to find your own way of doing things and there was a feeling of achievement/pride when you succeeded or discovered a "better method" of doing something. Nowadays that's really not the case because 98% of the game is discovered just hours after release. Well made video, I 100% agree and have felt this way for a long time about vanilla(classic). I am one of those that doesn’t hit FOMO and the rush. I’m one that gets left behind and has no one to play with so I cant experience the game as I wanted it to be. I get slowed in my mid 40’s, left grinding mobs to level, then when I hit 60 to collect pre-bis, no one does those dungeons anymore.

I played Vanilla WOW back in December 2004. Always been a " Helper " , where I helped lower level players with quests. Quit WOW when Cata came out and 2019 came back to WOW in Classic. 2020 when Corona happened it was Fun playing Classic as most countries were in Lockdown. Waiting to Classic +.

    Hey Hammer, Rascar here 😁
I really loved the video, of you’ll do similar concepts in long versions 😉
As usual the video was really well realized and it must have ask a lot of work so big thumbs up for that.
About the video I completely feel the start because it was the same for me, i could go play only on some friends, level a character in the beginner zones. And watch their big brothers play on their high level characters who looked so badass 😂.
After that, you pointed out rightfully the age range 25-45 I think, and you mentioned they had more responsibilities. Which is damn right. It’s the reason why I had to start the rush sod with you guys to go back on euro serv as I could no longer raid at 4am because I had a job 😂.
But you didn’t mention something that in my view would have been great on the same time : Our comfort of playing increased trumendously. This 25-45 years generation is having the money to pay themselves setups and be able to game efficiently and quickly when they want to. Which was not the case when we were kids with no incomes at all 😉.
So I think that explains also a little bit this need to be the best and rush, do pvp on good material, be more competitive and able to defend on the wilderness. Because that’s what was cool about sod, no flying mounts = world pvp lvl max and it feels so good.
Everyone wants to be ready for a rogue ganking him 👀.
    Take care man,
    Rascar

I have a new strategy now with WoW Retail. I main a drood to cover all roles that I rush (healthy way, no side quests kind of thing) to max level, gear it up for casual pvp with BGs and wait for LFR.
While waiting for raids to open (or anything really that is timegated), I then level up an alt slowly enjoying my time to max level.
You folks should try it, it's much less stressful.

There's nothing wrong with being a casual gamer, just exploring and making new chars every few weeks. The Lvl 0-30 experience is relaxing and satisfying, and the world immersion is a great mental health break, especially without the stress of high level competition or raiding schedules. As long as you're enjoying yourself, don't let anyone give you crap for not grinding to 60 and raiding every night.

I never really played wow back in the day. i was only 5 years old in 2005. however, the first time I logged on and played (hardcore, because of the hype) i fell in love. I only made it to level 7 before i was killed by murlocks, but my god if it wasn’t the most fun i’ve had in years. I still get the itch to go back and play hardcore sometimes, and i might in november once the hype comes back again. WoW is probably one of the greatest games ever made, I really just wish they would restart or reset everything though, retail just doesn’t feel enjoyable to me, however the world seems so vast and there seems like there’s so much to do. Hopefully one day we get the classic+ we all deserve.

What made vanilla, and even up to some measure the early expansions amazing was this long endless adventure leveling into the world and discovering cool new stories and then rediscovering them long after you forgot them.
The problem was how wow became about the endgame only and the gear treadmill, rather than on how to flesh out and make that leveling experience even cooler.
Past the first extra 20 levels we didn't need a longer leveling experience, which is what they simultaneously did by adding levels, and then nerfed the xp needed to it took less time, and thus less time immersed in the world, we needed more zones, quests, NPC's, cool new boat routes and dungeons in the mid levels.
Imagine a wrath expansion that not only released with max level zones and the new continent we got, but with lots of scourge questlines and maybe new quest hubs fleshing out the plague lands .

Anyway I spent many hours on WOW and it felt like winning the lottery when completing the hardest quests in the game, I even cried when I spent months to get the paladin charger mount because of only have a couple of hours at a time to play some days not even being allowed to play damn you family PC.

I remember getting on the bus where my best friend was waiting, I was 69.8 or so, and i asked him if he got there the night before. For some reason i cant get the image of him holding up his hands and saying "it's done... Finished." Will, you only just began. He is still actively raiding today. I have since taken my longest break yet.
    But I will be back.

  • @Genuinely_Vague

My first character was a warrior. I started in the middle of BC. I did not hit 70 ever while Bc was out. I wouldn’t reach level cap for the first time until Wotlk was released and close to late first phase.
I can not begin to speculate how many hours I spent in STV as a mid 30s or so warrior. I was terrible at pvp but trust me when I say I loved it.
When I was 80 I expired my first raid team. It was a mom and pop style guild. Very laid back, very very slow progression. I can’t even put into words how much this did for me as a kid with parents who were absolutely absent.
Then during Cata and Mop I expired my first large scale pvp guilds/pvp and I was hooked. Playing Arena and RBGs at a time when it was also extremely growing and prevalent on RUclips and Twitch.
I met some of my best friends on this game. Several I’ve met in real life now that I met as a lowbie in STV. I’ve attended weddings, surprise parties, baby showers and even unfortunately funerals.
Now I’m dad, I have little free time to play but I’m enjoying Cata so much. I’ve been exclusively PvPing since I returned. However a few nights ago I decided to do something different. I hit Alt+7 and just walked around Stormwind and a few other major cities. It did not disappoint, I found so many overlooked small details that I had never realized or noticed. It was in that moment I remembered why I loved this game so much growing up. There was always something new, there was always something to do and it provided a family and friends when the real world struggled to do that for me at times. I love my family, they had their reasons and circumstances and I’m by no means blaming them for anything, but times were different my parents did everything they could.
If you come across this comment. Take it for what it’s worth, I’m not saying go fish in game for 12 hours. Open up the game map, close your eyes, spin the mouse around a bit and go walk to or fly to wherever it landed. Once there just RP it up a little bit, first person view or close 3rd person. Turn off the UI with alt z and just look around. Take it in, because right now, even though we’re living through past memories, these will eventually be our past memories. Enjoy it while you can, don’t get overworked about some stupid guild or raid drama. When you look back in a few years you’ll be thankful.

Great video. WoW to me has always been about the Journey and not the destination. This is primarily why I can be considered a "Classic Andy." I feel Wrath broke that journey and exclusively started focusing on End game. It's also why I feel P1 in SoD was so great.. so many alts redoing that Journey. P2+ killed it for me and I feel everyone shifted focus to grinding to each phases End game encouraged by Dev (not limiting dungeon spamming, Joyous Journeys, incursions, etc...) Hopefully, Classic+ focuses more on that journey..

Reminds me of my journey with wow Started in 05, which coincided to moving to a new area for work. With no friends in the area nothing to stop my from Wowing in all my free time. Eventually the changes alienated me and I logged off for what I thought would be the last time. Classic brought me back for a while, but with everyone knowing exactly how to min/max everything that was challenging and fun became easy and boring. Solo leveling, which I remembered as challenging, was substantially easier even on hardcore simply because I knew where to get the best items and how to max abilities. Still remember the first experiences with WoW and it's magic and as much as I want to see a Classic+ with new material I've come to realize nothing will recapture that 05 experience. Social media, developments in technology, prior experience make it impossible to go into it with the same clean slate, but I will certainly log on again at some point.
