I have never understood why a watch from 1960 has any bearing on a watch in 2021... I wouldn't buy a Ranger because the Model T was innovative, why would I buy a watch because the same name was on a cool watch 60 years ago? Damasko makes a great watch right now, so buy the current model for what it is.
Honestly?it's mostly down to pure watch snobbery frankly, people insisting that a watch is "better" because it has "heritage".....as of that makes it more robust or overall a better watch,it's pretty much absolute nonsense 👍
Watch admoration in most aspects is illogical. All watches tell time. Accuracy can be had for $10 that is well beyond the needs of 99.999999% of the population. Almost everything we judge about watches is either subjective or qualitative rather than function or price performance.
By the way, that Chrono movement is based on the Lemania 5100, not the Valjoux 7750, and that is according to Damasko-"The Damasko DC86 utilizes the Calibre 51 movement, based off of the historic Lemania 5100, with a 50-hour power reserve". And there is a difference on that. The Lemania has a Vertical clutch, the Valjoux doesn't, and the Lemania has a very flat Castle wheel to control the chrono functions located below the dial, while the Valjoux doesn't- The Valjoux uses a switching cam instead that is less elaborate than the castle wheel arrangement. The Vertical clutch for the chrono function is more smoothly when starting the chrono, while the horizontal clutch/pinion of the 7750 is jumpy. Both run at 28800 VPH or 4 Hz.
My Damasko DC67 is the most versatile watch in my collection. It is so unpretentious, and does it’s intended job without complaining. As my daily watch, the Damasko has taken so many whacks, thumps and smacks but is still 100% unblemished. Not even a scuff! It is remarkable … it still looks brand new. The ice-hardened steel is something else, even the bezel. No desk-diving scuffs in the bracelet either. The fully-loomed dial glows all night long. Apart from all of this, the innovative technology on the inside (too much to list) takes the watch to a whole new level. If I had bought the Damasko as my first watch, I doubt whether I would ever have purchased anything else.. including my Omega and Tudor. I just cannot see how any other watch manufacturer can compete with this.
Oh hi Marc, your fellow DC86 Orange brother here. Others from the collection are still fighting for wrist time. Highly recommend upgrading to the bracelet, after 1 year of desk diving it still looks brand spanking new!
Lovely looking watches Mark! I’m a German watch fan for sure with a Sinn 104 of myself, currently saving for a U50! That Matt black dial is what gets me with the whiter than white markers!!! All the best and you’ll be on a live chat with me one day even if I have to buy a darn Islander to get there;) all the best
Very ingenious , I'm a fan of Lemania 5100. Have a few questions: 1. What is the main difference between black and non-black versions? I see both are hardened? 2. Do you ship to EU? 3. what is the warranty ?
That DC72 is a beauty. Love the simplicity and legibility. I think I'll like the no-date DC70 even better, for the even greater simplicity and symmetry.
My DA46 is an absolute monster. I prefer it to some of my more expensive watches. I have my eye on a central minutes chrono next. Highly recommend Damasko!
I have the Damasko DC57 black chronograph with the fully lumed dial. The ETA Valjoux 7750 runs +3 per day. The Damest coating is extremely scatch resistant. It's a great watch.
The one I like the most is the orange DC86 chrono with that Lemania-5100 like arrangement of the concentric minute counter. But I would prefer to have a Tachyimeter bezel instead of the diver's bezel, or to have the tachymeter scale below the glass, and the rotating diver bezel outside. And no rubber or leather bands, I hate them. I would prefer the Italian Mesh bracelet, but those are my tastes.
Wearing a Sinn 556i today. I really hope they carry this center-minutes chrono movement into a sub 40mm case. Apparently, my grail watch hasn't even been designed yet. I'll be keeping an eye out, Damasko!
I received my DC72 from Marc yesterday. I LOVE IT! The case has a pleasant satin sheen and the dial is super legible. I am very excited and feel Damasko is worth the price all the way. Thank you!!!
Great lookers. At my age and eyesight black dials and white hands/indices/numerals are so way to tell the time. Those all black case ones are the dogs dangly bits.Very cool.
Lange and Damasko both came out in the 90's. Lange HAS history, but you would need to sell you house to have one. 'I want a German watch', and I know the quality I am getting with Damasko.
Hey Marc, do you have any idea when the DC70/72/76 bracelet will be released? I know the metal is slightly different this time. It's only surface hardened as opposed to ice hardened. Thanks if you can respond. Cheers
Just noticed Seiko have recently released a homage of an Islander watch. They say it is a limited edition 140th anniversary with white dial (5KX) SRP ;)
Can the 24 hr subdial be set to another time zone or it slaved to the hour hand? Great choice going all 12 hr bezels on the 86’s. I’ve had the same theory about being easy to read the minutes off the bezel as long as it’s marked all the way around. Poor man’s GMT as some call it.
Hi, another great review as always, could i ask you a question about the diameter of these watches. I normally dont go above 42mm for my 7 inch wrist, and this watch is 42mm but it's only the aggressive notches on the bezel that add the extra 2mm. So i'm wondering visually is your eye drawn to the black bezel at 42mm rather than the bezel at 44mm? i'm hoping it wears more like a 42 rather than a true 44? could you give me your thoughts please. Thanks
Suggestion: hope you'll change your watch dial logo to "Long Island" (in a classic font) ur original logo can keep in crown though. It will give ur watches a more artistic look. Sure sales will boosts more. Thanks me later
Those are really nice chronographs. I have about 40 watches but no chronographs. Maybe it is time to change that. Damasko seems to make a very high quality watch.
Love the color coordinated chrono hands. My Fortis has that and it is a snap to read at an instant. Trying hard to justify adding one of these to the collection.
Marc maybe an idea for an islander dial is pearlescent automotive finishes. They can be stunning like a pearl white, pearl red or green. It can look just as good as anything out there. Just a suggestion.
i would like to see them on the steel bracelet, unfortunetly the black one dont have a matching black steel-bracelet. i hope they make one in the future
Absolutely love the look of the DC70. I am a fan of central minutes chronos and own a few watches based on the Lemania 5100. I know this is a modded Valjoux/Eta but still very keen to buy. My only gripe is the leather strap leaving a lot of case depth exposed between the lugs. I cannot find any reference for a bracelet on the DC70/72. I can see it as an aftermarket option for the DC80 series. Does anyone know if I could get a DC70 on a bracelet??
Stop tempting me with Damasko's. I really like the green one. I think the numbers on the bezel should be green too. I would have to have the bracelet though.
Being of boringly practical nature, while I like the looks of some chronographs, I struggle to find an application for them that another tool would not be better at. Judging from the comments, a lot of people here own chronographs. Do you use them as chronographs for something other than amusement?
@@islandwatch agreed, I split the cost. I bought the watch from you, and nine months later bought the bracelet direct from the factory. The bracelet costs as much as a microbrand watch, but it enhances the DS30 so much it's well worth it in my mind. Though, it cut I to my Marathon/Islander budget... maybe it wasn't worth it lol.
Being the current owner of both a Damasko DA45 and a Sinn 857 UTC, the Damasko is the better built watch. The Sinn is well made, but the case construction and precision in the bezel action on the Damasko are superior, as well as the bracelet construction and clasp.
@@islandwatch Marc I'm specifically speaking to the very first watch shown, the DC72. It's first a matter of taste. I don't like the oversized minute indicators between the typical 5, 10, 15, 20 etc markers. Secondly I wouldn't want a chronograph stopwatch complication that didn't give seconds in 1/10ths. At 2,700USD and another 600USD for a bracelet, even if I could afford it, I would prefer the Sinn 103 St Sa on a SS bracelet for roughly 2,800USD. The Damaskos are good looking watches but my preference goes to the Sinn. Best regards.
Damasko and Sinn: extremely underrated among today's bling/ancestry/heritage nonsense.

I like the historical aspect, it doesn't seem like snobbery to me, unless it's something like "My watch is better because the company is older"

Super watch.
Will you review their DC86/2? The updated version of this you have in stock. Would very much like to see it as no one else has a video review of them.
That centre-mounted chrono minutes is brilliant!
Thought the same thing. At first I was like wtf? Then watched it in acrion and thought "brilliant!"
So sweet looking.
Damasko chronographs are among my favorites along with Sinn. Super legible dials and great wrist presence are important to me.
Right on
Very handsome and really dig the technical vibe of these. Thanks Marc!

Waiting........ for the white dials, with the new movements to return. Best, D.
Love me the DC-80 since it came out. The DC-70 might be my new aspiration. Wish it were a little thinner.
Thanks.
What kind of accuracy could I expect from a dk32? I'm looking for something in COSC territory...
Where to you get them serviced?
I absolutely LOVE these watches. I want to getting the DC 86 Orange.
Good grab
Wow…a chrono that you can actually see and read. Way better than those tiny little sub dials. Just wish it wasn’t so expensive.
Yup. Very easy to read.
Can’t wait to finally receive mine! 🙂

There will be more before then.
Yeah yeah Damasko. The big news is an Islander with an "H" link bracelet. My prediction is Integrated bracelet steel sports watch (AP Royal Oak-ish).
LOL
I prefer the slightly flashier designs of the Sinn
No worries.
Wheres that black damasko diver you were wearing in that one tgv video?
Waiting for stock.
Gorgeous watches .Too rich for me but the quality shines through and worth the money.
Very true.

Sinn, Damasko, Lange

Any info on accuracy?
Thank you for this Marc!
Welcome!
Hmmm... Nice watches. But I only need a isl-19 with Sapphire Double Dome and Hi-beat (Please say yes)
Maybe one day
Where's does the A26 movement fits in these watches?
A26 is a ground up caliber. These in here are modified Valjoux.
Nice video
Mantap
thx!
Is that "work in progress" the new GMT?
Nope

Yep.The Germans Krupp company made the infamous 88 mm anti aircraft/tank gun.No body could come close back then.
For sure they do.
