The mod in question replaces the standard Super Mario Kart camera with static camera angles, such as those found in the original Resident Evil, and replaces the fun gameplay of Super Mario Kart with an experience akin to slamming your hand in a car door. They'll probably get away with it since the mod is distributed as a patch file, rather than as a full ROM hacked cart dump.

@@nickparton5663In his/her defense, I recently watched an older oxbox video and was surprised how little they've seemed to age over this past decade. Once you hit 30 you start to become hyper aware over your own signs of aging and people complimenting you about it is not as strange or as unwelcome as you might expect. Of course this doesn't apply to everyone but at least in my case it's definitely not something I expected to appreciate hearing every now and again

Watching Jane at the beginning of her first run try to slowly and tactically go around the track only to proceed to drive right off the track around the first turn was hilarious

I love how Mike took the time to think of the exact number of pints needed for his driving to be like this; we can hear the gears turning: "6 is not enough, 8 is too much, 7 is perfect".
The best mod ever. Don't have drunk friends? No problem, use this mod and even the soberest one of us drives like a severe DUI is in order.

I love the fact Mike is trying to play Mario Kart like a sim racer while Andy & Jane just embrace the chaos.
On a side note, I've noticed Ox Box is trying more "react" type videos. It's a nice change of pace from previous years content. Keep up the great work!
They are not reacting in this video, it’s more like the old school challenge of the week, and I personally loathe the day that one of the few creative gaming channels starts doing reacting videos.

God I miss classic Mario Kart when it still had fixed camera angles and tank controls. I don't consider a game to be a real kart racer unless it has those two things specifically.

In my experience, the challenge in Mario Kart is not to destroy your friendships with a well-timed blue shell. And I often fail that challenge.
No blue shell in this, the purest, version of Mario Kart.
The controls changing with perspective is evil, but would be absolutely perfect for a chaotic Mario Party or Warioware minigame.
I would love for this to be a Christmas Challenge!
I have 2 comments:
1. I feel this needed a quick run of regular Mario Kart, as a control. So we could see how much of it was this mod being the worst thing ever and how much might have been people just being bad at Mario Kart.
2. This absolutely needs to be one of the Xmas challenges at the end of the year.

See, I used to love playing the Geoff Crammond Grand Prix games using only the cinematic camera, I thought loads of people did that. 😛

Now I want to see a Resident evil mod where you can't shoot the zombies but have to outrun them and occasionally stop them with a well-placed banana or thrown turtle shell. Keep the blue shells for Nemesis/mister X !

Rainbow Road Xmas Challenge!
My favorite way to play Mario Kart with friends is what we call Don't Drink and Drive Mario Kart.
Everyone starts with a drink at the start of the race and you have to finish your race before crossing the finish line. But you can't actively drive while you drink so when you want to drink you have to stop playing.
It's so much fun.
From the intro clip I thought to my self, "oh! It's like an old resident evil game with the pre-rendered backgrounds"

Damn -- Mr. L 314 really bringing the pain there, huh! I especially loved the ranking characters laughing at your agony when you were playing the ranked matches against the computer as well as each other. XD Echoing everyone saying this now needs to be an Xmas challenge, though I won't be as mean as to insist you figure out how to play Rainbow Road. :p

Is the OX shirt that Jane's wearing not being sold, because I didn't see it in the merch store. I remember when that design was first released, but my OX t-shirt is getting pretty worn and I was hoping to be able to buy a new one (especially if it was now available darker color shirts). Does anyone have any info on this?
