    I personally thought this was a very good video. My wife & I are first-time FWC Hawk owners with a 2013 used camper. We do not have thermal packs in ours and don't know when we will be able to find the extra money for them. This gives us some great pointers. Plus, we have two struts in the middle of our camper and would like to have four struts, two front and two in the back. And one more thing...we would like to have solar set up and that seems daunting to us. And I don't want to screw something up by digging in and learning as I go. Yet, I don't want the fear to stop us from trying. This video is spot on for where we are in our FWC'ing life right now. Thank you very much!

      Thank you! It sounds like we're in the same place... especially as it relates to the solar, electrical, etc. For us, that part is also daunting. Thank goodness for RUclips - there are so many good videos on almost every aspect of DIY/truck camping. I think if you take it slow you can get a lot accomplished!!

    Wonder if I cut and fit fleece blankets with more r value for 40 bucks, if that would work even better

    So glad that you thought to switch sides before you started to modify the panel. Despite it looking overwhelming initially you two made a very clean, neat professional installation. Great job. By doing this yourselves you also made it that much more yours!

      Thank you! One step closer to giving us a better basecamp when we're out there exploring. I would have died if I started cutting it up before realizing it was just fine haha.

    Well I guess I just might as well subscribe to your channel. All the weirdo stuff I’m trying to figure out about my Fleet shell has led to your videos twice now. 😊
    Little camper on big truck and now thermal pack video. Your videos are fun, funny and informative. I can’t wait to get out there!

    We are glad our tutorial on building a thermal pack was helpful. Too bad you two don't live closer. We would have supplied spare material, helpful pointers, and gotten Nancy over here to sew on the extensions. FYI, we prefer the window openings to roll up toward the ceiling and not down. It is much more out of the way. Also, we've heard the fabric is getting harder to get and that All Terrain Campers has switched to a new material for their thermal packs. I'll get down to see what they are using in a month or so. We enjoy your energy and positive attitudes and a young couple that enjoys fly fishing! Enough said ;). Best of luck with your projects.

      Rolling up not down is such a great idea!! Thank you for your help, for putting the info out there and helping people like us! We would have been floundering without it. I agree the fabric is hard to come by... looking forward to what new fabrics are being used in the All Terrains. Cheers and thanks for the comment!!

    Sailrite has any and all fabrics including the car cover fabric as its known. but if you are going to make your own there is a product called Warm Window that is 10x better...FYI....

    Another fun professional experience!
    Quick cuts, helpful scrolling titles, scandalously cute spokes-model, bouncy soundtrack.
    This video gives the impression you have an extensive background in production.

    Thanks. Looking forward to more. I think the thermal pack is okay. That dead air space helps. Bear in mind that condensation will still accumulate on the outer surface. Takes a bit more to wipe things down.

      Good to know, we’re a little haphazard with wiping the walls down so need to be better with that… we’ll see how it performs soon. I’ll take any bit of warmth I can get!

    Only thing I may not like about the thermal pack is that it probably makes the space feel smaller since you loose a few inches on either side?

    • @mtnup3040
      @mtnup3040  2 года назад +1

      I would say it does make it feel just a bit smaller - possibly because it keeps the light out pretty well. We won't be running it year round so its tolerable for the colder months if we get even a little bit of heat containment.

    what is the thermal pack material?

    • @mtnup3040
      @mtnup3040  2 года назад +1

      We purchased the Block It Evolution 400 Series to extend the fabric around the corners and it matches very well. It's somewhat of an insulation/woven fabric and resembles material often seen for car covers. Others have suggested reflectix for the windows which is a smart move.

    !!! HOLD YOUR HORSES !!!
    a)
    I owned two FourWheelCampers.
    The curtain material, and the 'Artic Pack' material, is Dupont Hypalon... the stuff used in inflatable boats such as Zodiak.
    .
    Any local-owned tent or tarp manufacturers ought to have this in-stock.
    .
    b)
    Two walls of plastic sheet offers pretty close to zero-zero-zero insulation.
    All it does is trap a layer of air to slow heat transfer... if the fabrics touch, no air is trapped, hence an utter and complete loss of alleged benefits [sad face].
    .
    Suggestion:
    If I was me, instead of re-working the factory product -- in my opinion, a worthless attempt at 'feel like we are *Doing Something!* -- I think I would fabricate a new inner curtain using a couple-three layers of a real-world insulation -- Reflectex comes to mind, shipping 'bubble-wrap' could be a POC (ProofOfConcept) -- within two tougher protective outer layers.
    .
    If I was me fussing with your project, I think I might invest in a PVC-style welder... because insulated Hypalon is an oxy-moron and many thousands of FourWheelCamper users just might be interested in your far-superior 'Artic Pack' you offer for sale on your new website for your new home-based business.
    .
    But what do I know...

    • @mtnup3040
      @mtnup3040  3 года назад

      *writes all of this down, purchases this material list, gets to work* as always, you are super helpful. Seriously, when we upgrade this to your specs - we will make sure to point everyone back to you and share how it goes. Great, great ideas and knowledge share. Appreciate ya!

      Somebody claimed the secret herbs-n-spices recipe included heavy-metals such as lead [immediately worshes hands obsessively] [both hands, just to be sure].
      Those Duponts... always with the high-jinks!
      .
      Irregardless, could an alternative be available?
      Something along the lines of "...slightly different formula and new name "CSM" or Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene Rubber..."?
      .
      Bringing us to the q:
      * is that stuff safe in a living environment?
      How much breathing of the out-gas is too much?
      This is Dupont, hardly known for ethics and concern for customer health.
      How incestuous are they with Union Carbide and Dow, operators of the Bhopal plant in India?
      .
      For our hosts, I think their decision to acquire a 'mature' camper with some miles under its belt probably allowed most of the tox to dissipate during its 'formative years'.
      Still, I think I prefer drafty to sealed, with plenty of fresh -- outside -- air circulating.

      @@largemarge1603 we may have slightly nicked the vinyl when cutting the velcro so let's hear it for extra draftyness!

      I have a poptop campervan. Year's ago I was given some free fleece material. I made an insulated liner for my poptop using reflextix sandwiched between two layers of fleece. I use velcro to attach it to the roof and sides of the camper. I have cut flaps where the windows are and these open and close using velcro. I have two colours of fleece navy blue and orange so these liners are reversible depending on my mood. I tend to have the navy side facing inwards as I like to sleep up top and it creates a darkened bedroom. I do find this works well at keeping the camper warm in winter and cool in Summer. On warm summer nights I open two side windows to create air flow. Happy with this solution and I only spent money on the reflextix and velcro.
