My favorite band ever. They are such incredible musicians, songwriters, activists, and humans. I've seen them 20 times live as a band (5 more if you count their solo shows, and 2 record-store appearances), and I will go to my grave saying these two are the greatest.
I have loved the Indigo Girls since 1990. Their songs are powerful and bold and emotional. Their musicianship is great and both the discography and the live shows are excellent. I celebrate their entire catalog. Their music and message of love and acceptance will live forever.
I have seen them in concert many times. They are geniuses and I learned how to harmonize with just about anyone from listening to these two for decades now.
This hokey narration does a real disservice to an otherwise well written synopsis of the IG career. They are two of the best singer-songwriters in the WORLD, regardless of their sexuality, regardless of their politics. Their MUSIC is simply SUBLIME. Listen to it with an open mind and you can't deny their EXCEPTIONAL talents - together, or apart. They are simply one of the best live musical acts America has to offer - a true National treasure.
Most music is for certain moods and headspace. Indigo girls encompasses so many emotions that I can be into listening no matter what mood I am in! The Indigo Girls have contributed so much to my mental and emotional health over the past 30 years and I will forever be grateful for their existence!
I also came out in the 80's ! They have always looked up to them for not being ashamed of who they are!!! I've seen them Like 20-25 times from Newport folk festival to va beach va, thank you for giving me strength to be who I am ❤
I learned more about The Indigo Girls in this 12-minute video than in all my decades of listening to their music. Thank you! My favorite albumn is Indigo Girls from 1989. I think they never reached that level in that every single song was a hit in that albumn. Love 'Romeo & Juliet'. Amy was hard, Emily soft. They balance each other. Great to see them still going strong after all these years. It goes to show that following your heart makes longevity.
First time I heard...Least Complicated...I got chills. That song really couldn't have been more fitting for me. Music has a way of overriding al opinions on orientation, personality and the complete array of genders...and recognize the most important thing about artists...and that is talent. 👏😃
Been a fan from their get go. This new knowledge, just shot my respect level up 10,000 notches!! 🔥 This was very well done. Thoroughly enjoyed this vid. Great work. ❤️👊👍
I avoided watching this video for months bc it seemed too sensationalized for me, but it was actually really well made and interesting :D I'm so much of a superfan that I didn't learn anything new (in fact, I even noticed a small error) but I'm still glad I watched it (although some of the comments under this video just make me sad)
I wish I’d been more aware of them when I was at Emory University, and they were playing at trackside Tavern. My roommate loved them. I wish I had gone!
@@gerry1620 yes I do, he was so fun to be around. He was 10 years older than me he taught me how to roller skate, and dance! When Mom &Dad went out for the night we went to the Drive In movies. I think we saw all of the musicals of the day.we were close even though I was the little sister.we had 7 kids in our family. He always said that I was the fun one. And the pretty one. Thanks for letting me share with you 💖🌈🌟
Was so lucky to see them at the beginning on the New Haven Green on a beautiful summer night and Closer to Fine just hit the airwaves. We snuck off for a joint and actually missed Closer to Fine but heard it on our way back up the street.
Never was a fan of this genre. I was raised a little earlier and listened to the runaways and suzi quatro. But I like a couple of their songs. I have to respect their hard work, talent and no fear of expressing their emotions. A song that can impart to the listener your inner emotions is going to be a good song. As far as hard work? These girls have more albums than Bob Dylan. That speaks volumes
I didnt know that they were gay until many years after I started following them. It makes no difference. They are fabulous songwriters and musicians. Their lyrics are so poetic and they have an ear for melody. "Gallileo" just floored me when I first heard it and it my mood still brightens when it comes up on my playlist. Aside from the musicality what a mind to marry Gallileo, a giant of Western thought, with the Eastern idea of reincarnation? The video they did is also a hoot.
They are the modern-day Simon and Garfunkel; except they are both talented. The first 4 albums are absolutely magnificent beginning to end. I do think they have earned the right for a RRHOF nomination. I have seen them twice and am glad I got to see them on the Swamp Ophelia tour. Sadly, Emilys' voice is fading but they are still very good. They just can't do some of the songs they used to.
I went to the covid concert and it was a kick in shins to not be able to get out and dance around and sing with everyone else, but it was a flawless performance
Ive enjoyed their music since the first time i saw the video for closer to fine. However i have never seen them live. I view music, movies, sporting events as a way to escape all the BS going on around me. I dont want or need the activism no matter what the issue is even its something i believe in. You just need to escape to be able to relax sometimes
It’s funny… I was and 80s long-haired heavy-metal guy… Then when Guns N’ Roses came out… And released lies lies lies… They are acoustic album… I came across the indigo girls… I never really thought about if they were gay… That really didn’t mean anything… Back then… And Adam mean nothing to me today… The music was bad ass… Gay or not… Wasn’t an issue then not an issue now
I hate know-it-alls in comments more than most, but Georgians pronounce DeKalb County as "DeCab". The way it is pronounced here generates some confusion with its neighboring Cobb county. I was shocked, for a moment, as I tried to recall a Laurel Ridge Elementary in the Cobb school system. lol
I love them as great musicians and I think it's great they never dated as love gone bad would have been devastating. I'm glad they support woman's rights but their sexuality shouldn't be a factor.
Who wrote this?? "As both young ladies realize they weren't quite like other girls." ??? First, call them "women" second, the line reads as though there were exactly 2 lesbians at the entire Emory University or in the state of Georgia.
In the 1980's, I never saw One act of animosity towards gay people. We didn't even care. I bought the Indigo Girl's Strange Fire, LP, and enjoyed it. I get so tired of hearing how "bad it was" in the 1980's. It wasn't any worse than it is today, by far.
So are they "Indigo Girls" or "THE Indigo Girls"? Make up your mind!!! When they started out in the Big Time, they made a big thing about being called "just" Indigo Girls, yet this narrator calls them "The" Indigo Girls 99% of the video! What’s the deal, ladies???
Stop erasing the gay part. That's the reason why they had to sing about love of all people to begin with. To show that gay people are the same. You removing that context is not exactly loving and harmonious of YOU, bro.
Inspirational women, until.....Disney eh? Got your vaxines eh?.....Make a mockery if all that activism, sorry to say, but appreciate the music. I got to look them both in the eyes. I will never forget it.
@@pjwhite7787 In their defense it is a requirement they may not have had much of a say in. I can read it, on their recent livestreams. They are not comfortable. ✌
I thought this was interesting, but I'm not sure of one thing, are the Indigo Girls gay? The fact that it was only mentioned 46,007 times left it somewhat ambiguous. I understand they might also be musicians?
I discovered IG back in the late 80's. I love their music. Not so hot on their politics. The alphabet soup crowd needs to stop putting their sexuality on their sleeve. We get it. Continue to produce your incredible music. Stop lecturing us about your marxist politics. You live in a country where your rights are fully secured, yet you espouse a political system that has killed 100 million people, including a lot of your own. Time to grow up Girls.
This has got to be one of the dumbest silly and reductionist takes of politics and music I have ever heard. I am a proud leftist socialist Marxist and I support workers who OWN the means of production and dump the bosses and CEO's who steal all the value of the actual Laborers who do the work. I'm thinking about Jeff Bezos. Here in Vermont our little country store where I live just got bought out by the workers who will pay themselves equally and fairly and decide things democratically. Marxism is the most democratic thing. We have two successful food coop's where member's have a democratic say in the workplace and are paid very well and have ample sick days and vacation time. How is that not democratic?
The LGB is not part of that soup. Also I don't think you understand. The indigo girls lived before the tq got added and back then gay homosexuals got jailed and killed for being hated by people like you. So how about you take your own advice and GROW UP.
What are you confused about, do you things were better when people hid who they are like Rock Hudson, stop being afraid! They don’t what you or your kids .
What do you think about The Indigo Girls?
Their must is poetry. I love it so much. Thank you for this video!
They are great musicians/singers, just a little too light for me. I do love their song Galileo, though.
I remember when "Closer to Fine" first came on the radio I and was blown away. Amazing women and musicians!
Admire their work and progress. But was never a fan of their music.
They’re compared 2 Simon & Garfunkel. Gr8

Loved the Indigo since I was a kid! Great duo! Great musicians! Great activists! Hard to see them older! But will always love them!
They are about the best band around. Their lyrics are historic, and so is their songs. Beautiful.
Met them before they were big time. Two very nice people.
They harmonize well together when they sing. 👍🏼
I’ve never seen them in concert but their music got me through High School in the early 90s. It was empowering.
Thanks for the, really great, story of one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE,The INDIGO GIRLS..
P.S.Missed their show in San Diego cause the venue wanted too much for tickets..not the Indigo Girls fault I'm sure..

I had no idea they were gay. I just knew they wrote magical words and music. I was thrilled when I heard "Closer to Fine" in Barbie.
I just love how far we have come! I lost my brother back in the early 80’s to AIDS when people were acting horribly. 🌈
Very sorry for your loss.
