  • Take a deep dive into SXSW with our Studio Interviews, where conversations go beyond the boundaries of sessions, showcases, and screenings.
With forty years of making music as the iconic folk-rock band Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have made their mark as musicians, songwriters, and dedicated activists. They have represented radical self-acceptance to many - leading now multiple generations of fans to say, “the Indigo Girls saved my life.” Still, Amy and Emily battled misogyny, homophobia, and a harsh cultural climate chastising them for not fitting into a female pop star mold. With joy, humor, and heart-warming moments, Sundance award-winning director Alexandria Bombach brings us into a contemporary conversation with Amy and Emily - alongside decades of the band's home movies and intimate present-day verité in the documentary "It's Only Life After All."

My intro the the Indigo Girls was in a mental hospital in a group session. Closer to Fine lyrics were used for analysis and response. I was cured!

These girls are not in the mold of "rock stars" but I'll tell you something: when I first heard the EXCELLENT 1st album, I immediately equated them to the female version of Simon & Garfunkel ...and that is no small praise.

The thing with Milli Vanilli wasn't just that they lip-synched at gigs; they didn't even sing on their own records and used the lip-synching to disguise the fact that it wasn't them.
