Ah so refreshing to hear a small business owner saying that they find Tik Tok toxic….I completely agree! Love how honest you were! I find RUclips much more better too. This video was really good to watch ☺️
Thank you, I got a drop of encouragement Im dealing with awful depression and loneliness I live in a country alone and I have no relatives no parents Im trying to start this business I find it so hard
I would like to add that levels of sun resistance are not proprietary vs generic brand based. They are based on the chemical composition, pigment based is more sun resistant than dye based. But All inkjet prints will fade over time. As will All water based inks. Not even watercolour masterpieces will last forever (which is why museums and galleries keep the bulk of their collections in temp/humidity controlled dark conditions, and those on display under strict lighting controls (take it from a retired archivist). I think it was a little unfair for someone to complain that your print faded after 5 yrs in direct sunlight. All us artists, esp. stationery ones are working with what is called Ephemera, all of our paper and card prints are ephemeral!! Thank you for a very informative vid., I love watching your progress
Thank you! I was coming to the comments to say the same thing. Canon ink will fade fairly fast in sunlight/warm temps. unless you are using one of their large format printers which use archival quality inks (and even then they will fade if in direct sunlight, etc.).
Perfect timing -- starting my youtube channel literally today😊 I have only used the channel to upload videos to other platforms previously. It is a bit intimidating to hit that record button thank you for the encouraging words💕
I needed this today, so thank you so much! I especially liked two tips that you made. The first tip I liked was about not measuring success based on sales. The amount of income you're going to earn every month could be different based on what you're selling. There are definitely slower months for some businesses, so it's important that people don't get discouraged by that. Also, like you mentioned, it's important that you're happy with your business. I think life's too short to not be happy with your career. The second tip I really liked was about not being able to please everyone. I really liked it because it validated something I've been struggling with and gave me an answer for it. My struggle was trying to create products that would be appealing to a wide range of people. That doesn't sound like an issue, but it became one for me when I started questioning everything about my designs. For instance, feeling that certain colors would alienate certain customers over others, so becoming obsessed with finding that "perfect" color. The answer you were able to help me find was realizing that I'm overthinking it. You never know how many people will like a product until you put it out there, and you can’t produce a product that will appeal to EVERYONE'S taste. That's just impossible. You can only do the best you can by producing products that feel right to you and what you know about the customer base you picked.
thanks! i made a crochet business last summer and i still haven't sold anything yet (probably bc i haven't been marketing) but your tips are super insightful and this was so calming to watch!
Thank you so much for all your tips. I'm also an illustration and stationery entrepreneur, and I often feel quite alone on this journey of growing my business. My family and friends aren't really supportive-they just don't understand this type of world, they don't say anything bad but I feel uncomfortable sharing my doubts or fears with them. Luckily, people like you are my inspiration and give me the energy to keep going. :)
Someone else mentioned this below, but Canon inks definitely also fade unless you are using one of their larger format printers (and even then they will still eventually fade). We used to use a Canon Pixma Pro and upgrading to a Prograf was one of the best decisions we made, the quality difference in the ink is just crazy. We have a sticker printed on it inside our dishwasher that still has barely faded after 2 years, next to it we have one printed on the Pixma Pro and it is completely faded back to white. The large format printers are also so much cheaper ink wise, it’s cheaper per ml of ink for Canon ink for our Prograf than the cost of generic for the Pixma Pro was. Also absolutely loved the video, just wanted to add about the inks because it was something I learned when switching myself after getting tired of everything fading!
These are some great tips that can guide anyone starting or even running a business. I would like to add two points, one for new businesses and another for growing ones. For New Businesses: Make sure you start a business that intersects with your talents, skills, and interests. For Growing Businesses: Embrace new technology that can make your operations more efficient. Additionally, learn how Facebook and Google ads work to enhance your marketing strategies. Well done, Milly!
Thanks so much for these tips, Milly! This is super helpful as I'm starting my own small business, The Cozy Studio, where I sell handmade crochet rugs, candles, and miniature clay items. My aunt, who is deaf and non-verbal, lovingly crafts each crochet rug, and it’s amazing to share her talent with others. I’ve been figuring out the best way to introduce our story on social media, so your advice on building a brand and sharing authenticity really resonated with me. Looking forward to putting your tips into practice! 🌟
17:29 same with me. I would have gone with a silhouette machine, but cricut was just in my face. I'm just staying optimistic about the cricut but it has an attitude. 😂😂
I loved this video so much. ☺️I’m the only clay artist in my small circle so it seems like it’s just me out here but then I run into lovelies online like you Milly and I’m instantly hopeful again. Thank you for this ❤
I am so glad I found your video and channel. I am thinking of starting a business but have no idea what to do. I lack confidence too. This has helped. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video Milly. I am two years into my small business and the learning curve is crazy. Your tips are really useful and practical, thank you 😊
I am just starting my handmade jewellery business and I'm so glad I found your video! There are so many things to do and take into consideration when starting a business that I didn't even think of and it feels a bit intimidating and overwhelming altogether. But I'm gonna take your advice and figure it out one day at the time as I am really bad as well when it comes to not going too hard on the to-do lists 😅
I love this video so much, so incredibly helpful. I am also looking to launch my small business in March selling prints and stickers so found this video super helpful.
Fab tips! I feel you on the cricut front…I did the exact same! I think because cricut is sold in shops in the uk, so many more people are aware of the brand. But I was much calmer after switching to my silhouette and even calmer when I outsourced my stickers 😂 I love the story about you and Chloe! I’d love to find a small biz friend who is local xx
This was such a helpful video! Thanks so much for putting this together! I totally agree with you on the cutting machines. I bought a Cricut first and had a terrible time with the white border around my stickers being cut off center. The Silhouette works so much better and I would never go back to a Cricut.
This is great advice. I just started my RUclips channel a few days ago for my small jewelry business. I only have 2 subscribers so far but it was exciting. Hoping to get more in the future.
@Charmsandpearlsbyrea You've done well with subscribers since you posted your comment. You now have 447, including me as I've just subscribed to your Channel 😊
Took me a while to start a youtube channel and honestly glad I did! Gonna work hard on building it up this year for sure. And it's also really fun, I do hate editing videos though but my friend does it for me ahha. I use starling for my business and its a good one! :)
Have you done a video on how you deal with finances/keeping books? Just opened my etsy shop & had 40 orders but finding the keeping note of everything a bit overwhelming.
Hi I just stumbled across to your channel. First did you ever finish that tea?🙂I had a few questions, how many sales did you make the first year? Secondly, can you touch on SEO, as the competition is crazy. Is there certain keywords that you had to research and where did you do your research. I find some do better than others on Etsy.
Thanks so much. My only regret is that I can't patronize the overseas channels that I follow. Shipping for me is prohibitive. But I do follow and really appreciate your videos!
Thanks for this lovely video. I would like to go an extra mile in 2024 and my old passion was creating beading braceletes and earrings l. Now I am a mum, have a full time work but want to have an extra income and not sure where to start but loved your ideas.
I Never leave comments, but just wanted to say this: I really felt you were so genuine and not fake like some of the other AI accounts etc. I am watching it as I type and normally I cjabge the play speed lol but for your video I watched it at normal speed!!! GREAT VIDEO and great vibes!!! KEEP IT up!!! BTW I am a brand new to creating content. I have had you tube for long time but just this weak started posting and right biw just experimenting lol.. Idk what to go and how to go about it… maybe you have any tips for me 😂 I am onto painting and coloring books and I also have so so so much wisdom to share about life sbf mother hood and mental health etc… I just don't know how to do it all…. And shall I just stick to You tube or do other platforms also and which ones etc
Hi Millie, these are really great tips! Thanks so much for sharing. One question please, how do you keep your privacy and location protected from the weird people that are out there or crazy stalkers while running a RUclips channel? Just curious because I know that there are people that like to put themselves out there and show their face and how they go about their business or lifestyle, but you have weirdos out there lol
One thing I always do is make sure I don't share my location if I am out for the day/weekend/on holiday on social media until I am back home from there. I also keep my address as private as possible and hope to one day have a PO Box to help with this!
Ah so refreshing to hear a small business owner saying that they find Tik Tok toxic….I completely agree! Love how honest you were! I find RUclips much more better too. This video was really good to watch ☺️
I've never used tik tok and never will. I've always found just the idea of it rather brain numbing and heard it's very toxic as well
Thank you, I got a drop of encouragement Im dealing with awful depression and loneliness I live in a country alone and I have no relatives no parents Im trying to start this business I find it so hard
hope its going well for you now

What would be your filming tips for a small business vlog ? Like what are things you try to film for each video?
Great tips milly, I agree with Tik Tok, I tend to just post whatever I make for shorts/reels ha!
Have you done a video on how you deal with finances/keeping books? Just opened my etsy shop & had 40 orders but finding the keeping note of everything a bit overwhelming.
We have the same mug 🥰 hello from Canada 🍁 cheers ☕️☕️

💜💙 I have been thinking of starting youtube
Is there a specific company you use to print your cards ? Would you be able to share ?
Hi! Can I ask what printer do you use?
Which IPad do you suggest for using Procreate?
Got any advice about a sales tax license for a small business owner?
Do you run your business as a sole trader or limited company? I am looking to start my own and really don't know which is best!
I’m a sole trader :)
