A video on mental health as a small business owner would be so helpful! It's very overwhelming figuring out what to focus on- markets vs online, applying for funding g/grants, exhibitions, etc.
When i first started last year i didn’t know what hobby i wanted to make full time (they weren’t official at the time) as I didn’t want to commit until i had decided. Well a year later i have now officially registered and combined all my creative interests into 1 business 😁
One thing I often find missing from this kind of videos is the legal aspect of owning a business. I come from a country where people have a lot of freedom when it comes to selling stuff, so when I started making things after moving to the states I just thought I'd need to somehow track how much I'm earning and pay taxes that way and that's it. Nope XD Turns out you need permits, a DBA (if you are going under a different name), reports to the state every year (which you could be heavily fined for if not done), you need to keep receipts of the things you've bought, amounts you've spent, open bank accounts, and many things I'm not yet aware of. I'd been watching business owners' journeys for years and nothing of this sort was ever mentioned beyond taxes. I'm currently waiting for my DBA to file but it's slowed down my progress by a month and a half which I could have done much sooner had someone mentioned it in any of these kinds of videos. This video is great tho! I always enjoy listening to your voice and seeing your bring smile! Thanks for the tips! ❤
Wish more business tips videos actually include these kinds of stuff, it's the most critical in starting a business in my opinion and they never include it
Thanks for watching 😊 I feel like that would have to be a whole other video in itself as it’s such a huge topic… but yeah it’s definitely a topic that would be really useful to know more about! Personally I don’t feel comfortable talking about the legal aspects of running a business as it’s always so different depending on which country you live in, and often small business owners (me included) aren’t experts in this field so don’t feel comfortable talking about it and giving advice on the topic. I hope that makes sense! 💕
@@printsbymilly Oh okay! I totally understand! And I also realize that things are indeed different 🤔 I just think that a little mention would have been fine, but then again, that's your own choice :) Thanks for responding! And sorry if I sounded hostile, been a little annoying lately with this DBA stuff XD
@@karenl8837 I am aware of that XD I guess i should have been more clear. What i wished to have gotten was a small mention of the legal things. As dumb as it'll make me look, I basically thought that all there was to opening a business was managing the tax stuff, had I know that there's things like permits, reports, DBAs, EINs, I would have been able to start sooner without fear of missing anything. I don't blame Milly, of course! That would be even more dumb XD I just would appreciate this side would be mentioned, not specified, just as a heads up, especially on those videos where the title says "everything you need to open a business" but then don't even mention the legal side. Idk, I guess it doesn't matter much if I'm the only one with this problem XD ❤
I’m in my 4th month, I’d like to see results but I know it’s going to be slow, I have to learn better social marketing, improve my products, etc. well, patience, time and money 😊
hi milly! i started watching you at the start of this year, the first video i watched was your comparison video between the circuit and silhouette cutting machines as i was buying equipment for my small business, i ended up subscribing after that video because i just loved your aesthetic and personality, and your videos are so inspiring for the type of content i want to make in the future!~ this is my first time commenting! thank you for the tips! i’ve applied for my first art market so fingers crossed i get accepted, but even if i don’t it’s okay! i’ll just keep trying, keep working on my art, and there are always other markets! 🌟
you're talking about pink branding and all I could notice was the pink hoodie! now I have to ask, do you have an entire pink wardrobe to match the theme in each video? because if so, that's a cool level of commitment 😮
Just come across your channel, absolutely love what you do. I wanted to print my Christmas cards with my designs but omg my printer hates me 🤦♀️ nothing I do will get the colours as they are on the screen or even close. You’ve mentioned on another video about out sourcing…I’m wondering if I should just give up wasting time, card and ink and just get a company to print them instead?!
I started with just wall art prints as I already had a printer, so could easily make these in house! Maybe have a think about what you could easily make in house without having to invest in too much equipment/materials etc 💕
How would you start an email list of only selling on Etsy mainly? I sell mostly on Etsy but I do have a website but it doesn't get much traffic 😩 ps love watching your videos 💕xx
I’d recommend creating a discount landing page on whichever email marketing platform you are using, and then put this link on a leaflet/thank you card that you send out with your orders with an incentive such as ‘sign up to our newsletter to get **% off your next purchase’ or any incentive you like! I hope that makes sense 😊💕

It varies for every country though, it would be virtually impossible. You need to research your own country/state

I’m month 5 into my business and so far it’s not quite going how I hoped, not going to give up though. Well done on all your achievements x

Hey, Milly! You are really inspiring me to open my small business. I'm learning a lot and having lots of ideas and plans. Keep shining! 🩷

Great tips. This biggest problem im having is what i want to design and what product to start with
