Imagine you’d ran into Florence at the library, holding the book at returns?!?! You would have to have fought her on the spot. Library membership be damned. This is about honor! 🧙🏻♂️🗡️
I would love to watch a video where you do, "Cat Dad reads Cat books." Books where a cat is a major character, like the Traveling Cat Chronicles/ The Goodbye Cat.
the travelling cat chronicles still makes me cry when i think about it and I read it 2 years ago :') I have a collection of cat books on my shelf! I think I have 7, plus 3 cat manga series'
Keep in mind, your library petitions for funding using the statistics of how much use the library gets from patrons. So try to find SOMETHING to check out keep for a bit and return, and request specific titles you want, because as they can report an increase in those numbers they can get more funding for more new books and resources!❤
As someone who has regretted buying way too many books, I need a library in my life. This channel is technically a library of sorts. Gavin is the Sexy Librarian.
As a local library worker who is not a librarian, I personally love being asked for book recommendations! We’re always talking about books and what we’re reading and listening to in my department. My work compiles a booklet every year of just staff picks and it’s great fun!
When I started the video I thought all the prompts would be centered around being at the library like: a book with a library setting, same aisle of your last read, same shelf as a 5 star, on display at the library, you saw someone return or still needs to be reshelved, librarian's current read, librarian's recommendation, cover color matches the librarian, on the bottom shelf, on the top shelf, book on the cover, number generator aisle. I do really love this challenge!❤
Omg that would be a super fun scavenger hunt kind of challenge, I’d love to do that for 2025, a sequel to this series! I just wanted to start off nice and easy this year to get back into the habit of using my library more 😄
Librarian here. Everyone should go read Witch Hat Atelier. I love how the kids are learning, innovating and cooperating even when the grown ups lose their way.
I love this idea because a library is a free service that can be used before buying a book instead of buying a book you would regret buying that you are not able to read. Happy reading!
As someone who’s also trying to use the library more (gotta rein in that post COVID book buying), I love this series already. I must say, my library system in the states doesn’t tell you the due date of everyone’s checked out books and after seeing you nearly put out a hit on Florence, that sort of system is probably for the best. 😅
My library did away with fines a couple of years ago, so I do feel like there’s less urgency to return on time. I think there is a Florence here in Texas who is always just ahead of me in the queue!
I work at a library. With our library, you can sign into their website with your library card, search the catalogue, and put a hold on an item. I have at least 10 holds going at one time lol You can also pause the hold and pick the date you'd like to read it (or roundabout). Our library even has brand-new DVDs. Also, if the library doesn't have a book you can ask them for it. They may purchase it or may be able to borrow it from another library system as an inter-library loan. I love this video! Can't wait to see the next one.
Keep in mind, your library petitions for funding using the statistics of how much use the library gets from patrons. So try to find SOMETHING to check out keep for a bit and return, and request specific titles you want, because as they can report an increase in those numbers they can get more funding for more new books and resources!❤

It is so cool how they have you check in your books and put them on the shelf. At my libraries they have a drop box or at the fancy ones they have like a conveyor belt you put them on
I might have to try this one next year! I order books in at my library through the interlibrary loan system a lot, but don't just browse and pick from my local one. I loved "What You Are Looking For is in the Library." I just found it so inspiring at the point I'm at in my life.
I look forward to see what you find! I already visit my library on a regular basis. I borrow most of the books a I read, and sometimes I find some at a local thrift store. Instead iof buying and then unhauling books I don't like, I borrow books and if I love them and feel I want them as a part of my library - then I order them. 😂 It might be the opposite of what most people do, but I have 2 main reasons; 1. I don't have that much money to spend on books, 2. We don't have that much space for books in our apartment so I have to be picky. But my life would probably look different if I had worked at a bookstore like you once did, half of that bookstore would probabaly be in my home. I would def make use of the staff discount.
In the US, I know a lot of libraries make an effort to get books for people outside of their collection (whether by purchasing it for their collection by request or doing a loan through a different library system). If yours doesn’t have the Kakuriyo sequel, I’d love to see you try these different pathways to spread awareness! Love the video!
@Neil-writer-author If your library doesn't have Hoopla (and you are interested in trying it), you can get a digital library card issued from another library system that has it. I did that for Libby, since my library only had Hoopla
I love my local library, I would even call myself a superfan. I go once a week to pick up holds (I have a constant cycle of holds coming in so I never run out of things to read) or drop off returns that I’ve finished (or that the library is clamouring to have back - my middle name might be Florence). I think the books being out is more troublesome for you as a RUclipsr, since you probably have video plans scheduled and need books at a specific time. I personally browse my online catalog and just reserve a bunch of books at a time, and then read them whenever they come in
Yep that's pretty much it, and for the excitement of the vlog, going into my library and not knowing what to pick up or anything adds to it (in my opinion haha) plus I love the chaos
@@GavinReadsItAllI honestly would not care at all if you'd switched the prompt order or something, I'd still watch it! And I think most of the people would, so I hope you weren't too stressed about it!
This is such a great idea! I go to my library all the time! My library has unlimited check out so I might have checked out over 100 books at one time. Well over time. When I go to the library and see books I wanted to read even though I have books at home……. I might have a problem lol
Blaming Florence for everything is incredible. Lol. Also, I'm so glad you loved Before I Let Go!! I adore Kennedy Ryan. And I think I liked Soledad's book even more than Yasmin's.
Saaaaaaaame, but love that children are being taken to the library because I LOVED spending my summers at the library with my siblings but the vibe has changed a lot from a cozy reading space to more of a recreation area now 😂
Yay! Happy you got ahold of all the books you needed... even when Florence was a tease. That book broad! How dare she! Also, oh Gavin.. if you like manga, and cozy vibes, and kitchen/baking things, Witch Hat Atlier has a kitchen spinoff. I know you're going to read WHA at one point, but definitely include those. And if you haven't checked it out from the 90's, I'd highly recommend watching Simply Irresistable with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sean Patrick Flannery. It's got cozy vibes and a witchy love story that's adorable.
I've seen the anime of that manga a long long time ago and loved it. Ever since, I've always wanted to pick-up from where the anime stopped but at the time the translation wasn't easy to find. I'm glad it is now, so I'm probably just gonna read the whole thing 😅
I adore my local library! I went in with a list of 10 books from my April TBR and came out with eight of them! I was so excited! Glad you enjoyed Before I Let Go. I loved it too!
I love the idea of reading at least one library book each month! I think I'm going to challenge myself to do the same. Also, where did you get that lovely sweatshirt? 😍
It makes my heart so happy seeing people use their library more! Also, your library looks so fancy and it even has a cafe? Y'all living in the future. I'm also so happy you enjoyed Before I Let Go, it's one of my favorites.
I do feel incredibly lucky to have such a good library near me, it wouldn't be right for me to not use and highlight it and show everyone how incredible it is! And hopefully inspires more people who can to use their libraries more too 😊
I love Spirited Away! 😊🎉 Ooooo library manga series challenge …… it may be a bumpy ride though… Florences are EVERYWHERE! I need to pick up that manga from Libby! 🎉

Love the setup! As nice as being able to access popular books is, I think this type of challenge is a great avenue to expose less popular authors or unfamiliar authors for a reader in between holds for specific books. I'm curious what you would pickup for graphic novels, I've found some awesome stand alones browsing my library because they looked pretty (love manga, but I haven't seen videos on your channel for other comics). *Darkly She Followed* was a really pretty and unexpected read as an example. *Monstress* is gorgeous but also Eldritch body horror. My library has a section for more mature graphic novels separate from all the manga so we found them by accident in a back corner and they had the full special release version of *The Crow*.
I’ve used Libby religiously since high school but I haven’t been to my library in person since before Covid so I went with my mom over the weekend definitely gonna start going more often. I’m lucky my cities library system has many branches so we plan to go to ones we haven’t been to this summer (we’ve been to three with our main one being like a 25 min walk so quick drive down the street)!
This video made me so happy! I’m glad you decided to break it up into parts so we can see the progress you are making. I certainly have a Florence at my library as well!
The ABSOLUTELY NOT section confirmed for me that we hate the same books but it was the knee cracking that made it truly relatable. Yup. (Also v. glad you noped on Mad Woman's Ball because it numbed one entire hemisphere of my brain with boredom.)
Hey! Gavin! I loved this video so much. I can really relate to the frustration of books not being available though the library… I reserved a book through my library at the start of the year and I was first in line, but then when the day came to check my reservation it seemed that my reservation had been cancelled without me knowing!! I can’t wait to see what the next four months of reading will be!!
My library is not the best stocked but they actually have a pretty decent number of ebooks available online. You just motivated me to look through the catalogue there, and I actually borrowed three books today as I saw they were available online 😍 really need to check it more often and make use of the reservation-tool
I can't remember the last time I went to the library to browse. My local library is small and not really on the way to anywhere. I mostly end up borrowing digitally or browsing online and requesting an ILL.
I'm so excited that you're doing this! I'm doing a library challenge this year too but I've been posting mine monthly. Except I've only managed to get two months up. Month three was filmed but the clips went into that giant delete forever folder in the sky on accident so..... oops? I kinda love that you and Florence are in a giant battle over books not being returned. Poor Aunt Flo, always coming late and giving us a hard time. I DO currently have a book checked out that is due back in tomorrow but like... our library tells us if someone is waiting on it and no one is waiting so it's okay, right? I'm glad you were able to enjoy some books from your local library and that you took us along for the adventure!
Oh nooo so sorry your third month got deleted!! And it's totally fine to hold onto a book when no one is waiting for it, sometimes we need a little longer to read something, and libraries have so much choice, sometimes the time they give us to read them isn't enough
So glad you loved Before I Let Go! The next book isn’t a sequel in the traditional sense, but it’s kind of like the Brown Sisters (I think you’ve read those? At least book one). Book two, This Could Be Us, follows Soledad, who ends up going through a messy divorce (“messy” is an understatement, really, but I won’t get into spoilers). On her healing journey, she ends up bonding with a man who is the father of autistic twin boys.
I haven't seen any of your videos in awhile but watching this felt like being embraced with a warm hug. I love this library challenge. This is something I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year. 😊
I too have started revisiting my library for book selections, which has been great. I have become used to reading from a tablet though, so I compromise by borrowing ebooks from the library app, which I have enjoyed too, and my wallet agrees this is a great option. 😃
I grew up with a terrible library and as an adult, the local library is a contender for whether or not I will move to an area. Resources you may not think about with your library (because frankly, I didn't until I had a good one): ask about an electronic library source (Libby, OverDrive, etc.) ask if you can access other library catalogs through interlibrary loans ask if you can recommend books to purchase find out if they have other types of media (CDs, audiobooks on CD, DVDs, streaming movies, etc.) Some libraries have their ebooks available from the website, but your library may not allow you to check them out through their application. If you are having trouble getting a library book, see if they have it in another format you'd be willing to consume. For example, there are 63 people waiting for an ebook and 57 people waiting for an eaudiobook copy of Bride by Ali Hazelwood. There are three people waiting for it in a physical copy and the large print edition was on the shelf.
Other Booktubers: Cosy vlog visiting their library.
Gavin: Starts intense beef with local library user. 😂
Accurate 😂
The vendetta Gavin has against Florence is something that will probably haunt Gavin through the rest of this series

I can really relate to the frustration of books not being available though the library… I reserved a book through my library at the start of the year and I was first in line, but then when the day came to check my reservation it seemed that my reservation had been cancelled without me knowing!!
I can’t wait to see what the next four months of reading will be!!
I love reading Kakuriyo so it was nice to see you try it and enjoy it!
I loved the anime made based off of your April pick. I recommend watching it if you want to. I wish it was in my library.
You are a worthy enemy and I respect your vengeance game!
I loved the format of this video! ❤
Loved this concept!!
Totally understand the waiting for your item to show up at the library i just wait till an item is checked in before requesting
This was so good 😃 can’t wait for the next episode. I love using my library and you’ve got me thinking about doing a library challenge of my own 😀.
My library is not the best stocked but they actually have a pretty decent number of ebooks available online. You just motivated me to look through the catalogue there, and I actually borrowed three books today as I saw they were available online 😍 really need to check it more often and make use of the reservation-tool
Yay I'm so glad you found a good selection of ebooks via your library, that's awesome!
I'm going to use Florence as an excuse to be better about returning my books on time!
I too have started revisiting my library for book selections, which has been great. I have become used to reading from a tablet though, so I compromise by borrowing ebooks from the library app, which I have enjoyed too, and my wallet agrees this is a great option. 😃
Our wallets are thanking us 🙏
I grew up with a terrible library and as an adult, the local library is a contender for whether or not I will move to an area.
Resources you may not think about with your library (because frankly, I didn't until I had a good one):
ask about an electronic library source (Libby, OverDrive, etc.)
ask if you can access other library catalogs through interlibrary loans
ask if you can recommend books to purchase
find out if they have other types of media (CDs, audiobooks on CD, DVDs, streaming movies, etc.)
Some libraries have their ebooks available from the website, but your library may not allow you to check them out through their application. If you are having trouble getting a library book, see if they have it in another format you'd be willing to consume. For example, there are 63 people waiting for an ebook and 57 people waiting for an eaudiobook copy of Bride by Ali Hazelwood. There are three people waiting for it in a physical copy and the large print edition was on the shelf.
the next book in the Before I Let Go series is about the main character’s friend’s romance
