ASW28 with INAV - Slope soaring into the clouds

  • Last week, I had an amazing slope-soaring flight in the Norwegian mountains. I found strong upward air currents that took me to an altitude I had never reached before. Unfortunately, the OSD video link in my goggles did not record. My backup recording on my monitor did not have the same range. So you'll only watch the recording from the HD split camera on the tail.
It's impressive to see how well INAV works on this plane. I had never tried the Loiter-Soaring mode in strong upward air currents before, and reaching such a high altitude was quite a nerve-wracking experience. When the video link to my goggles disappeared, the Return To Home mode safely brought the plane back down from an altitude that was «beyond reasonable».
    THANKS FOR WATCHING!

Nice vid. This asw28 canopy is a nightmare. I didn’t find a solution to fix it properly. Your wing extensions are to get more lift due to over weight ?

I've reinforced the canopy around the "knobs" holding the canopy to the fuselage with strong transparent packing tape. After a couple of rough landings, some "knobs" have broken, but I've 3D printed new ones.
Yes, I've extended the flaps, elevator and ailerons, mostly to improve the loop and roll authority and reduce the wing loads. The model weighs about 2 kg.
