  • After more than a month of raining, snowing and blowing,I had this weekend a small window of good flying conditions.
I’ve been bothered with a lack of range on my setup, so I’ve modified my Spektrum DX8 G2 with an 8dBi 2.4GHz antenna and put in an original Spektrum AR8010T 8ch Telemetry Receiver with diversity antennas and two satellites. Result: The range significantly improved and no Failsafe interruptions at all!
It was a nice wintry day, the daylight fades early at this time of the year, but I managed to squeeze in a flight in the afternoon. The wind was dead calm on the ground, look at the sea. But it soon shows that a strong northern wind ruled the sky at higher altitudes. I really struggled to hold the plane on a northern course.
I therefor tried out the Waypoint Mode in Arkbird. I set out a waypoint 600m to the north, altitude 300m, and the autopilot took me there, amazing!
When I build the plane I misunderstood the kV measurement unit, (revolutions per Volt) so I put in a 1080 kV motor in the belief that it was a bigger motor than the original 850 kV. If you monitor the voltage at takeoff, you’ll see a considerable drop of the voltage due to lack of torque I believe. But otherwise the model flies well with that installation. But I consider putting back the original 850 kV motor.

Man, this is sick. Came here from your comment from Alex rocbu. Why noone cares about such flights? Where are the views? Maybe try commenting as Alex did.
