    Fantastic recommendations! Not really an additional thought because you did talk about identifying newer books that maybe fly under the radar and are cheaper, but in that category - comics of historical or literary merit. I'm thinking Maus, Watchmen, and "firsts" of writers/artists. . .comics that are recognized outside of the comic book hobby. These books may gain more attention in the future, particularly because they may have crossover appeal to book collectors and general pop culture/historical item collectors.

    Sound advice. First appearance of a liked and popular character is always key. On speculation, I just like to buy raw and if the character ends up blowing up in popularity down the road then I lucked out, if not then not a big loss since it was only a raw.

    It seems a lot of the last few years of first appearances are marketed to just sell the comic without necessarily a commitment to the character. But this has always really been the case - Marvel and DC throw the characters out there and whatever sticks they run with.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  Год назад +1

      It’s to sell the books and to allow the creators to be creative. If something sticks they run with it. And, this is why I say look for the investment from the publisher because that means they are seeing something longer term.
      We’ve seen so many characters get introduced…watch the first appearance take off only to watch it crash and burn.
      Appreciate you.

      @@RegieCollects It's probably in the law of comic eras. In the first era, the first 10,000 years, comics introduces all the characters. In the second era, the next 10,000 years they develop them and their personalities to work them out properly, and in the eras after that, till copyright runs out, they see what the readers want the most.

    I think it's best to spend money on newly released comics and modern. With so many streaming services and more coming. They're looking at Indie comics for creativity. Disney will go the route of their newer comics. Since they had control in 2009. Same with DC. It'll take a little time. The great thing is it's the cheapest way and you can read them. Can't go wrong.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  Год назад +1

      I absolutely think that you can go wrong. 😬 Here are a few things to think about.
      There is a 10 year delta with Marvel movies and comics. So you won’t see a benefit from Marvel which arguably has been the most successful movie franchise for at least 10 years. You may have some lift with DC but they don’t have a great track record. They have also provided some insight into the next series of movies and they are pulling from things released in the 1980s to last year. So again, it could be several years before this bears any fruit.

    • @matthewhunt-foley9788
      @matthewhunt-foley9788 Год назад

      Absolutely the opposite of what I'd suggest. Buy as old as possible and as nice as you can afford. See an old horror comic for 15 cents with a dope ass cover? Buy it!

    • @lerak8452
      @lerak8452 Год назад

      @RegieCollects How many new release comics are you buying tomorrow and last week. I'm just curious. Newly released.
      I don't know. We have Tosin in Black Panthers #3. Miles and Spiderman 2099 are up and coming. Secret Wars went up. I bought these inexpensive and read them. Star Wars will be huge in the next 10 years. Probably a Rebels trilogy in theaters. Look at what happened with the Walking Dead when it came out. Now imagine all the streaming services and everything they'll be making and rumors. Like SIKTC, Eight Billion Genies, or Gieger. Indies make some fantastic stories. Have to think 10 to 20 years from now. Where is the ball being thrown, too? Not where it's at.
      People keep looking at those covid numbers, but those are unrealistic, unless you sold. Before that, how much upswing was there really. Example Amazing fantasy #15. I see a bunch for sale on Ebay. Actually 20 over $29,000. Is that a good investment? Seems like alot of competition. When I go to "sold", all I see sell are the facsimile selling. That's what the majority of people have money for. That's why no one is buying the original. My bet is you would be sittting on it for who knows how long. It's great when people say how much one sold for, but no one talks about how many others are for sale and can't get bought. Second thought is, what are these kids going to like in 20 years Spiderman or a Miles? Streamed shows? Maybe even video game comics. We'll see. I have far better places to get better gains than older key comics. With much less risk.

    Great info Regie, and love your channel! Quick questions for you: I've been a collector since the 70's, and have been thinking about downgrading my collections. I have solid runs on both FF (from#125-416, non-stop) and X-Men, including GSXM #1.) Now that Marvel has control over both parties, is this a good time to look into selling some of these off to dealers or to those who still collect, but have been looking for certain issues for years?

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  Год назад +1

      Hey bro! The best time would have been more than a year ago when the market was at its peak. 😀 With that said, given how long you have been collecting you’ll make out either way. Are the books raw or graded? How much time do you want to invest in selling the books? Are you comfortable grading and applying a value to the books? Do you have a setup to collect funds and the ability to ship to multiple sellers?
      Long story short a lot depends upon you. Feel free to hit me on Instagram to talk more.

    • @briangilbert8733
      @briangilbert8733 Год назад

      @@RegieCollects Thanks for the fast feedback Regie! None are graded just yet, though I will be grading GS XM #1for sure. I told my mom during Christmas 1980 that I had seen it in a comic shop near by high school, and THAT was all I wanted for Christmas. She thought it frivolous I'm sure, but I got the book at $100. I'm sure she'd be smiling down if she knew how much it's worth now (at near mint!)
      I don't have a system as of yet, so my mission this spring and summer is to get them all cataloged and see what the value of each would be. I know I have first appearances of Black Cat, Taskmaster, Avengers Annual #10 and ASM #300 just off the top of my head.

    Have you bought a number 1 lately? The number 1 is usually trash. Companies want you to invest 3 or more copies…the cross overs don’t always have new characters that sell, lately have you read Dark Web, AXE, did you read Dark Reign, a lot of characters are getting dug out from the past and put into the current stories. If I was investing in buying new Comics I would just buy legacies or brand new characters. It’s all a gamble, but you can get quality and quantity…don’t be paying mad prices. Look for the bulk do the presearch to get it early…

    Investing in comics is so complicated...I started a few days ago when I saw how much the first print of Invincible and The boys are going for nowadays...and set my mind on investing in some Black Hammer keys...I mean as far as I can tell it was a safe investment, the story is amazing and there are recent rumours of TV show\movie...
    What I didn't know was the obsession that the comic book community have with high grades in comics...and now I'm this rabbit hole of watching videos about investments and gradding...and I'm already kinda tired of the experience lol
    Don't know what to do with the books, if I send them for gradding...or if they will survive in a good enough grade in my box of comics until the movie\TV show is announced...

Do you believe graded silver age key ASM's (or any now popular silver age key really) will be worth more overall in general 15-20 years from now? I keep seeing videos talking about short time lines for investment (3-5 years) and playing the movie speculation game but would love to get more of a long term investment opinion from someone that has been doing this a long time. Thanks again for all of your insight.

      It’a not impossible to answer at all. 🤣

      Comic book characters are more popular than ever. Books are getting older by the day. Thanks to grading companies books are viewed as respectable alternative investments.

      After a 20+ year absence I returned to the hobby in 2009 specifically because of graded comics. Between 2009 and 2017 I collected almost of all of the Silver Age Marvel grails, mostly in mid-grade, not as an investment but just to have them in my collection because I started reading them in the early 1960's (yes, I'm that old). Because they are now worth multiples of what I originally paid for them my collection has also become an investment for my grandkids. I was fortunate to have disposable income during those years because I can no longer afford them at current prices. You may have to settle for lower grades depending on your disposable income. Since they involve major iconic characters, I believe they will continue to stand the test of time on their own and will be less negatively impacted by future MCU movies or shows. Good luck!

      @@RegieCollects Yeah I mean even for the average bigger comic buyer, Supes 1 is just on another level lol. I've owned and sold two coverless copies previously and definitely regret it! As far as silver keys, and especially FF and X-Men books, I think you're 100% right and they're as blue chip as they come. An FF1 movie is literally a mere two years away, with casting around the corner. Don't see how you can go wrong buying those books and sitting on them for two years. Especially since many have come back down to earth the last year, leaving room for a solid rise. I bought a nice, lower mid-grade FF1 for a decent enough price recently. Normally I'd do a quick flip, but I'm convinced I'd be missing out on upwards of $10K-$20K if I sell now. So yeah, I'm with you, buy!
