One thing you didn't mention about KyoAni is that they paid their staff by salary not on commission. Also I heard someone mentioned that in Kobayashi's Maid Dragon S1 (or is it Violet Evergarden?) they already finished animating the whole series 1 month or so, before Episode 1 starts airing.
and one thing that he didn't mention is also another good example of an anime studio, although the anime studio 'bug films' is a brand new anime studio, it doesn't overwork their staff by marking deadlines of many and numerous anime that just might clash on their latest project in a time period, if you were to check their anime list of projects their only sole focus is only on one anime at a time. which is zombie 100 bucket list of the dead at the time
Yeah, KyoAni is just an exception in this Anime Industry at the end and I agree that I hope that we see several studio following the same suit KyoAni does. It might just me but I would love to see MAPPA gaining a redemption arc even if it's highly unlikely because in the end, they are business.
Kyoani is not the only exception Ufotable also tries this same style of workplace the only difference of these 2 studio to the other studio is they are also the producer of their show that's how they accomplish this. The down side is that if the fuck up they go bankrupt their work around this is having other businesses that will promote there product and earn more money. You also need massive balls to do this and if you fail you go bye bye.
The company is more than just anime production. They also put focus on community development. See how much contribution they have provided to the local community since their establishment. From tourisms to talent cultivations, the role they have played in making the world a better place can't be understated.

The saddest part is that no matter how amazing a show is, like Wonder Egg Priority, the people working on it put their heart, soul and health into the production, which should never be the case.
Thanks for diving into the details of the anime production. I appreciate healthy working conditions for the animation industry. So if you wanna support them, I recommend donating some money to the Animator Dormitory Project.
i know kyoani adapting slice of life story but i really hope KyoAni adapt another project like Kyoukai no Kanata an action anime , the way they animate KnK action scenes is just so good and perfect .
mappa getting all those hype mangas just for the money is so inhumane and ppl really supported them for that and never asked how the employees/animator’s are doing if they are doing fine or not😥
KyoAni is why I animate. Even though I haven't since December of 2019 until last week, what they're able to do is what every other studio should do. If I had my own studio, I'd make sure that each of my employees would get at least a living wage at minimum which would be adjusted as often as necessary regardless of the quality or quantity of their work.
I agree, kyoani built different, this video was so good ngl, going back to the college metaphor I learned more in these 7 minutes than I learned in 2 years of history class. great video
Honestly, treating their employees with respect, making some of my favorite shows, and pushing the standard (Violet Evergarden) are reasons why I love KyoAni. People can say what they want about X studio's animation, but there's something so natural about KyoAni's animation that catches my eye and keeps my attention. Other studios don't hit like them... maybe Bones and sometimes PA Works, but it ain't even close. I'm proud to be a KyoAni fanboy.
Each anime KyoAni produces is like watching a flower bloom. You're witnessing something crafted with so much love that you just can't turn the blind eye on it. They know how to produce great looking shows, that's for sure
I left the world of animation. Here in Italy, working in the art sector means getting killed inside and out, they demand your soul and don't even pay you! We are forced to do the work of 80 people, and not in weeks or days, and not even hours ... in MINUTES!
Sucks to see yoani studio which is a only studio thar actually there workers and have a good working environment got Bombed by a evil person and hopefully they could recovery and rest in peace for talented animators you guys are reason why alot of people loved anime
When I heard that there was a Kyoto Animation Fire Attack, I was in Japan at the time. When I heard in this video how many animators was animating Kobayashi San's Maid Dragon, was surprised. 36 people died in the fire by the way. I was shocked because K-On! was my childhood, and I watched Chuunibyou the year before this attack happened. I'm one of the person who is planning to live the life of an animator, because anime changed my life. I didn't know MAPPA was this bad...
I would love if there's another Indie Anime Studio that release a creative and freshly new anime based on something (like Original/Manga/LN). But they release it by themselves without the help of a big publisher company. As long it has a better working condition.
Pretty agree to this. KyoAni is one of my favorite studio alongside Sunrise. They shoul learn from both Sunrise studio 8's on schedule works, Sunrise makes less works and work on their own IP and KyoAni's works
Yeah but Wonder Egg Priority animated cuts are of very high level, that's why they had a hard time at the end. They tried to do a movie quality production, see the quality of the movements, the complex layouts and the nuance of the character acting. They don't actually tried to cut corners. Kyoani has an advantage because all his staff is in house and the schedule is well managed. All the studios want to be like Kyoani but is very difficult to do what they do because it takes time to build talented animators and even harder to keep them working only for you, most of them become freelancers very quickly and all that work and time nurturing their talent is lost. The solution is not that easy.
KyoAni pays their workers a salary plus benefits like maternity leave etc rather than by frame or freelance, the solution is treating your employees well
It is heartbreaking that the same people that deliver us some of the best entertainment in the history of the world are so completely and utterly underappreciated, disrespected and exploited. I weep for our species! The world is a very sick place sometimes.... and they still deliver such amazing dreams......... sigh
Honestly KyoAni is prob one of the best animation studios MAPPA is pretty good too in my opinion, but at this point MAPPA is basically overworking their animators..
basically what kyoani is doing so different from other studio is just spread your guys out, let your people do the work of course with supervision bruh KyoAni just use modern warfare tactics in the anime industry is the company president a veteran or something literally I didn't even know that just 35 people work on dragon maid season 2 alone damn that's like 2-3 people per episode and they are not stressed out from that holy shit
A lot to say about this video. What a great video!! I'm so glad you used clips from Shirobako Most animators work so much bcoz they get paid by frame Also depends on the anime director on how he/she uses the staff at their disposal, if they decide we're doing 12 episodes in 12 months, staff is all chill. But if they decide 12 episodes in 12 weeks... Oh boy Also, KyoAni has been the ones to break the norm for years now, they have always prioritised their work force (people) over their work. We probably won't be seeing much change in the anime industry soon though, bcoz many animators who are not so well off have to choose the worse option to work more and get paid less, but hey that's almost like every other job... 🥲 Again, what a great video!! And hopefully, KyoAni can give us another original movie soon 🤞
haha im really glad this video resonated with you some way😊😊there is just so much that needs to be fixed internally but hopefully we could start making small changes😤😤
