You need to meet Brandon Croney at The Compound in Marquette. Awesome place to get your skis and snowboards tuned plus he is basically your alter ego. Other good MI spots (the two you mentioned are very good) include Rhythm in Houghton, Cross Country Sports in Calumet and Down Wind Sports in Houghton. Many others down state too.

Believe it or not, Florida does have a snow tubing hill called Snowcat Ridge in Dade City. They are only open daily for a couple months around the holidays and then on weekends through February. I thought this was impossible but apparently someone has managed to pull this off. Granted, the "snow" is very much limited to the tubing lanes and an indoor play area.

October is one of the best times to go to Disney. Nearly everyone goes during the hot, muggy summers because that is when kids are off school - which leads to super long and uncomfortable lines. October until mid-November is a great time since the weather is transitioning from the hot muggy summer to a drier moderate winter. The mornings will be somewhat cool with warm afternoons, but with significantly less humidity. December is great too but the last 2 weeks of the year are actually the busiest time of the since a lot of family take winter break at Disney. January until Spring Break is great. Spring Break weeks (March-April) are crazy too, but not as bad as winter break. May through September are crazy hot and crowded - avoid if possible.
I lived in Orlando for 12 years and worked for Disney for about 9 of those years. We enjoyed our time there but grew tired of the hot summers and lack of seasons - so now we are in Colorado Springs. It is very different but we are embracing the new adventures. We have our ski gear ready with our Epic passes in hand and just waiting on the resorts to open.

If the midwest opens early, do they stay open or do they close when warmer weather rolls around. With Colorado resorts, when they open for the season, they normally stay open. Also, resorts opening day only open with a very limited runs - even Schoolmarm at Keystone typically only opens the top half and it is often referred to as the "white ribbon of death." So, it is important to understand that when a resort opens, it is far from fully open.

Of course- that’s the nature of early season skiing/riding. The Midwest does it’s best to stay open through the season when they open put it varies by the year. Sometimes the weather forces them to close for a week or so then reopen.

@@MidwestSkiers I suppose that's the benefit of elevation. There could be a 20 degree difference between the valley and summit although Colorado is further south than most midwest resorts.

@@JasonTaylor-po5xcKilimanjaro is within 3deg south of the equator but has snow because of the elevation. Elevation is definitely a huge weather benefit for the Rockies and Appalachian.

@@jppre Elevation in Appalachian Mountains is only of modest benefit since most peaks are below 6k. Compared to the Rockies, the Eastern resorts have rather short seasons. Also, because of the proximity to the Atlantic, the snow tends to be wetter and it also moderates temps a bit. Icy conditions are a common issue with them - especially outside the core season. Still fine for those within driving distance. I think most of the Eastern resorts, sans some extreme northern ones, have more in common with the midwest resorts than Rockies.

    • @jppre

@@JasonTaylor-po5xc that’s fair. Was just saying it’s 6x more than we have but they definitely have their own challenges as well.
