    @glipzik -@glipzik -- Give the guy some credit. Jimmie Davis co-wrote this song with Lee Blastie and Ekko Whelan. Tex Ritter was the first to record it in 1944; Davis recorded it 1945. 'It Makes No Difference Now' was written by Floyd Tillman, who sold it to Davis for $300. 'You Are My Sunshine' was co-written by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell. Davis also wrote many other great songs.

    @William1939,
    Lol actually I think it was a guy named Paul Rice who wrote You Are My Sunshine long before Jimmie recorded it and claimed it as his own. In fact Jimmie admitted in later years that he didn't write it. His partner Charles Mitchell though refused to be as honest. (?)
    The names Lee Blastie & Ekko Whelan as co-writers probably means they wrote it . It was common practive back then for a singer to want go put his name on a song he didn't write.

    Jimmie is credited as the writer of this song. But somehow I doubt he wrote it any more than he wrote You are my sunshine or It makes no difference now. Tex Ritter recorded it first and had it on the charts about 4 months before the governor.
    I liked the governor's music but I've always considered this a Tex Ritter song. Incidentally Tex hit number 2 and the governor #1. Both had 21 weeks on the charts.
