Another great video. The Hawaii territories were always ones of interest. This one was great and informative, just like all the others. Job well done. The work you put into the videos is appreciated.
Owen To the rock on wrestling for his grandmother " I was thrown into the audience and there I was lying there surrounded by all these six foot three 300 lb bodies. .......And the men were even bigger!"
Thanks for making another one, great job. I'm 32 and I like to read about the territory days, I always get a better overview of things from your docs and it's nice to see some faces to go with the names. These must take a lot of time to research. Great job!
@@OriginalWrestlingDocumentariesI love your platform. It's awesome with the little TV. My friend was at the party where Sid Viscous died. He actually helped his Mom spread his ashes over Nancy's grave.
Hot Summer Night in 1985 had to be one of the first cards to present wrestlers from NWA, AWA, WWF and Japan on one card. I was at that event at Aloha Stadium and I'm still curious if the promotion made any money that night.
It had like 20 matches with all the titles from those mentioned. The WWF title was the Jr Heavyweight title mainly defended in Japan and no longer recognized by Titan the following year. It poured rain at times. The matches wear only 5 to 10 minutes long and the ones that I've seen sucked. This could have been one of the great promotions in the world yet they just never got it past bad indy level production and poor management.
I was at the show when the rock came back to hawaii in the Neil blaisdell arena He came on the mic and said finally the rock has come..... HOME. Had a whole samoan set perform talofa teine lol. Good memories man and I hope someone starts a new promotion at some pt
@@bryanmcknight4043 Yes, you are right, he was all of that + he couldn't play bass at all, but that does not change the fact that he is the most iconic bass player in the history of pop culture. His charisma is that of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Bruce Lee. He was the most shocking persona that any young person could have looked up to as the ultimate middle finger to their conservative parents at the time.

@@citizenbeeswax7985 all the big names came to Melbourne in the 70s -it was world championship wrestling at fevestival hall -every Saturday night and on tv in Australia on the following Saturday afternoon -everyone watched it -its on dvds
Peter Maivia was a great wrestler.I saw him wrestle in Houston after I graduated high school.Rocky Johnson was his son in law.He fought Terry Funk for the NWA Title that night.
Would have to been 86 or 87 my mom lived in Marietta,Ga. ,I would drive up on weekends. I was 16 or 17 they had a channel that showed like 12 hrs. Of wrestling on. Sat.,anyway I had the pleasure to watch Kevin Sullivan and Mark Lewin in a axe handle match. Bloodiest thing I ever saw on tv. Thanks for the video.
I went to a lot of their wrestling shows and it amazed me how Mrs. Maivia continued to bring in the big names back then. Attendance was poor. About every 2 weeks matches would be held at the Blaisdell Arena and the other weeks it was held at Bloch Arena at Pearl Harbor. They were lucky if 1,000 people showed up at Bloch Arena. Blaisdell shows would draw at the most, about 3,000 people. Compare it to Ed Francis' 50th State Big Time Wrestling in the '70's where almost 8,000 people attended.
How accurate was the Young Rock portrayal of the Hawaiian wrestling promotion? They went into the story of the shakedown of the rival promoter, but there was no mention of Lars Anderson.
Not very accurate. They had Macho Man, JYD and Iron Shiek as regulars to the promotion. And they had Rocky vs Iron Shiek for the title. Which Lia screwed Rocky out of the title because she thought Rocky would the title to that rival promotion. No record of that match actually exists and no record of the talent previously mentioned being part of the promotion at the time exists. Rock's upbringing is interesting enough as it is. They didnt need to do this blatant dishonest. Makes Rock look like a huge liar.
If you're here in 2024 this is where WWE got the idea for the current design of the WWE world tag team titles. They are literally a modern representation of the NWA Polynesian tag team championships.
That was The Missing Link (known as Pampero Firpo on the mainland). Angelo Poffo wrestled in Hawaii and also worked there as a substitute teacher. His son Randy Poffo heard the Missing Link say “oh yeah!” and the rest is history when Randy Poffo became Randy Savage.

Sid Vicious had more charisma than Rotten, and he became a bigger pop icon.

A lot more interesting than the crap that's on TV now. I remember seeing some of their broadcasts on FNN.

Where did you find the sick graphic with all the territories and wrestlers on them
It's a graphic novel by Aubrey Sitterson & Chris Moreno called, "The Comic Book Story of Professional Wrestling."

Im from coney island brooklyn the home of the warriors. Lol the game was pretty good it self. Love the vids keep them coming
