Oh my goodness this tutorial is awesome!! As a fashion student trying to eliminate darts in my pattern to make a knit pattern, this was incredibly helpful. Thank you!

Hey there, of course. You can use the same technique with your jacket blocks/patterns if they have darts on them. Depedning on the design if you want your jacket more fitted, I would recommend using darts in your pattern.
Hey Will, so you can have darts with stretch if you have a larger bust. This is a good idea to help with the shaping or if the fabric doesn’t have much stretch. If this was the case, you can use this same method ❤
Aw no problem at all Jane. I have lots of tips over on my Instagram too that you'll find useful instagram.com/thesewingretreat/ Feel free to come over and say Hi ☺
Aw no problem at all :) Feel free to come and say Hi over on my Instagram @thesewingretreat. I'd love to know where you're up to in your sewing and pattern cutting journey☺
Hey Abigail, this would depend on the design :). If you're creating a gown with a fitted bodice it's likely you're going to need the darts. Instead, you could pivot the dart elsewhere depending on your desired look and fit. When you remove the bust dart it creates a more oversized bodice. I'm always sharing lots of tips over on my Instagram too that you may find useful @thesewingretreat. Feel free to come over and say Hi ☺
Because there is no waist shaping, you could get away with not adding that extra volume. If you had waist shaping as well, you would need to add that extra volume because it needs to go somewhere :)

Great question. Yes, so anything you add to the side seam must be added to the back side seam too. Extend back side seam down to match the same measurement as front side seam 😃
@@level2456 Hey there, sorry for the delayed response. No, because you've added extra to this area to allow for this. I do recommend only doing this if you have a smaller bust size though as it won't sit well on a larger bust. Or, if you have a larger bust add in extra ease and then it will sit better as it will be more oversized :) Here's my tutorial on adding in ease to create an oversized garment: ruclips.net/video/4Jxr8N55nlM/видео.html Send me some photos on Instagram message if you give it a go 😍 instagram.com/thesewingretreat/
Heyy there, yer so you can draft an oversized block (which would be without the dart) and Metric Pattern Cutting for womenswear shows you how to do that. It's my fave pattern cutting book. Here's the link to it amzn.to/3ptxmIP I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a dm on Instagram instagram.com/thesewingretreat/ 😀
@@thesewingretreat1205 hi I’m wondering if you know which method would get better results for an oversized garment? Is it the same or does this method add any sort of shaping even with darts removed?
@@Vstrum Heyy, drafting an oversized block is better as it'll already have design ease added to make it more oversized. But if you don't have a dartless block then you can use this method and add in extra design ease so you already have a starting point. Here's a tutorial on adding in design ease ruclips.net/video/4Jxr8N55nlM/видео.html
Hey Beau, apologies for the delayed response. So, the underarm seam will stay the same and the side seam will be longer but you can curve it up at the side to shorten it whilst still keeping the extra length at the front that you'll need :). So, it's just the same and you wouldn't need to pivot the dart. Just start from the point where the dart is at the side :) Feel free to drop me a DM on Instagram @thesewingretreat and I can explain further if you're still unsure 🥰
i have watched many different ways of removing the dart and this method is the best. Thank you.

@@thesewingretreat1205 Thanks...will the garment not elevate up in front, because the excess that was in front was to accommodate the bust.

Wouldn’t the underarm seam now become longer by extending that last line? Everything else looks great
