I love the beginning of the video of the time with your daughter. Those times you can never be lost in life. I like what you did with the storage. Gives me ideas for mine.
First of all Chris love that you put your family first that you stop what ever you are doing to take that time to help your kids with what ever they want or need those are the things you will never forget 🙏🏻❤️ Great idea as always Chris I just need to organize my shop area I’ve only got one actually wall that I can work with to put up some French cleats up on. But you’ve got so much great stuff.😂
Your time with your kids reminds me of my time with my Dad just after WWII, he spent a lot of time in his basement wood shop when I was about same age as your kids. I was born just before WWII and when Dad came home we spent every minute we could with him and he made all kinds of tables and things in the basement, we didn't have money for fancy furniture. As an adult I became a woodworker and made jewelry boxes for my Mom and she told me I spent hours and hours sitting in the basement as a kid just watching my Dad. Like you said, Great Memories.
a great story. Thank you for sharing. My grandfather fought in World War II as well, battle of the bulge. Only one to make it out of his platoon. Crazy war. Thanks for sharing again
Whoever would want to skip past seeing you & your daughter is a mug...they're the best moments in life with your kids...love it, and thank you for sharing that with us all, she an absolute cutie and as much a part of your videos as is the actual projects. LOve it, and cheers from Aus!!!!!
Spent a ton of time in the garage with my dad as a kid and the joy of having my 3-yr old join me on projects is another level. Love it and thanks as well for the Starbond code.
Cheis, I have been watching your videos only for a couple of days. You have really impressed me with how you incorporate you childern into them! I love those segments!!! I have a 14x24 building as my (soon to be) wood shop. As yet i have no insulation, interior walls or power. I have really been thinking about making wall and base cabinets and only putting wood or sheetrock on the exposed studs. After watching your (and several other ) videos about French Cleats, I have decided, thats the way to go. I will be paying to the details. Details Matter!
Another great idea for my shop. I have numerous projects “for another day, week, month”, plus stored antiques, etc in need of some degree of restoring. To get rid of on the floor clutter wall shelves with cleats-a great idea. I like how you explain & show all the little steps involved. I’ve saved all your videos so later I can review them, also when I get stuck.useful info. And you can make “balloon animals for your daughter “. I’ve already made some base frames from 2x4s which is probably overkill. I see I should add a 3” strip to the front to reduce sagging. Thanks
Awesome Build Chris, and intro proving Family life matters first work later, your the man. I'm changing my non used garage to my work shop and need that kinda storage. You've inspired me from the start and a passion to build things. I started of watching reruns on UK TV of New Yankee Workshop, then This Old House to the best, A Glimpse Inside. I've bought and built up the essential tools and did some great builds in my new home. Now I just need to organise the working area. Thanks once again buddy for your Unconditional love and passion you put into all your content not forgetting reminding us all of our family roots.
You’re just awesome. Weird how I was thinking on how I could put up storage shelf’s in my garage and a few hours later I come across this video. Thank you for the inspiration!
Love the family time and great job on the storage shelves. Here's an idea.. How hard would it be to show a timer of sorts so we know how long it really takes you? This would give some of us newbies an idea of how long it may take. Thanx, and make your kids a memory stick if you haven't already. They grow fast!
Hmmm........ my money is on a big CNC machine in the mystery box. Re the shelves, I'm in the middle of making shelves to go around my hall, above head hight. I've made a load of brackets from steel flat bar, with a bend in the middle. I haven't added any diagonal bracing as it will be just the right hight to bump heads. If they do start to sag, I can put some supports to span the gap between the shelves (across the hall). Basically I'm going for a blacksmiths look with the steel being blackened with forge scale and some wax once they are cool enough not to just burn the was straight off.
I love your little girl. She is adorable . Like the family additions to wood videos. Was wanting to know if you ever designed a shelf cleat bracket with triple cleatto accommodate
If you didn’t show your family we couldn’t grasp your motivation of why your doing. Keep those kids in all videos they grow up way to fast. Keep it real. ❤
Have you thought about using the space above? Hang things from the selling or rafters using poly system to bring things up & down? LOVE RESPECT KINDNESS ONLY MATTERS! Spread IT!
Hey Chris. Do you think it is possible to make these shelves wider to like hold a plastic storage bin? That is what I store my items in. I was worried about weight. Thanks for the video and help if possible.
Hi Chris. I’ve seen this video at least a dozen times! I usually watch in my living room, the go to shop to implement. I’ve needed someplace up high to store extra stuff. Started construction of end pieces, but instead of flat end panels, mine were a enclosed cube!!?? AND it never came together!! I watched closely #13 th time & it all came together for me. Sometimes I am a complete idiot!!!! Now, it totally makes sense. I enjoy all your videos, some more than others. You explain how you prepare & execute projects very well. Thanks I also love how you interact with your daughter.....shows me where you’re priorities lay. I’m also curious where you live-what part the country. Doesn’t matter, just curious. I live south of Portland Oregon. Take care & stay safe. I don’t know what your Covid status-- I hope it’s good.
Pretty awesome work, dude! The shelves look great! 😃 I need to build some as well, I already bought some plywood and so on... But I'm only going to have the time around the end of November. 😕 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hey! Love your videos and def will work on a french cleat pretty soon. Quick question: which CA glue do you use? There are a lot of options there, not sure which one should I get. Thanks!
Great video :) But I think the shelves would be as strong (if not stronger) if the end supports were a simple straight 45 degree piece (from the top of the back to the front edge of the shelf base). You seem to have over complicated and not gained the most support by making the ends out of two pieces with a right angle. The end braces/supports are placed under tension, so a straight single (45degree) piece would have been the best.
I can see that being an improvement for sure. This was definitely an experiment it does work however probably not as strong as that idea. Plus I might lose the capacity to put items between shelves with the gap in between then
She is a total cutie! Lord help you when the boys start visiting! As one Dad to another, you are goning to hate it, but as a good Dad you will just have to grit your teeth.
These are built with 3/4 inch cleats, 16 inches deep... Would that be strong enough to hold 18+ gallon totes? I'm looking at this for Xmas decoration storage, but I want to be sure the standard sizes cleats would hold up...
Well I can’t say that for certain but I will say this I have around 36 pieces of lumber on there that were roughly 4 1/2’ x 8” and 2 inches thick. I don’t know what the wait was but it held up really well for about a year
@@AGlimpseInside lol, does that mean it fell down after a year? Just kidding, I know this video is just under a year old. 😄 But I did want to ask, because I saw a video where you mount a spindle sander to the wall with a thick french cleat, like 1.5 -2 inches think. At what weight (or other issue) do you switch to the thicker setup? Thanks for the answers, and keep doing what you do! I love your videos
So I gotta ask, in the start of your video on your shelf behind you. Is that a Halo replica helmet? If so I also have one when I preordered my game years back!!
I see you too are forced to watch Pocoyo... entertaining even for adults, mindnumbing when played continuously... Oh, and I like the under-shelf lighting system
I tried hanging from one of these for a brief second it didn’t seem to do much but it creeked little bit. I’m pushing about 260 so I would guess anywhere from 250 to 300 pounds. But to be safe I’m probably not gonna go over 100

Great way to combine large storage with French Cleats. I am also always impressed how well your shop in insulated.
