Goodman, Urbie Green (tb), Flip Phillips (tenor sax), Jack Sheldon (tp), John Bunch (piano) with Red Norvo's combo (Jerry Dodgion on alto, Jimmy Wyble on guitar, Red Wooten on bass, John Markham on drums).
It's my opinion that Benny Goodman was 2nd only to Louis Armstrong as the Most Influential Jazz Musician of the 20th Century 'Satchmo'..there's a lot of musicians you could name, easy, in the Top 5 and you have your favorites. At this performance he was 51, way past his 'trailblazing' pre-war years. A gigantic radio star in that era and some would say that August 21, 1935, at the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles(when the band changed arrangements to Fletcher Henderson's and Spud Murphy's) the dance audience exploded...and the Swing Era was born. He also had, at one time, the first Lead Guitar player, the legendary Charlie Christian too. Benny Goodman, a Giant in the Pantheon of American Popular Music.

Hope someone can supply a list of the personnel with BG on this date. I recognize Red Norvo, but none of the other guys. Great performance. I hope to see the other numbers in this appearance soon. Thanks for sharing!

"Palomar" The big response to the band started at the Oakland show, before the Los Angeles show. There were lead guitarists before Christian.
@@thebrazilianatlantis165 But who is still the most famous American 'lead guitar' of the era? Charlie Christian with Benny Goodman.
@@spyderlogan4992 Of the Christian era, Christian. Of the Eddie Lang era, Lang.

Goodman still plays the licks he lerned from the Rapollo records of 1917. Urbie Green is superb, though!
Didn't know Brian Cranston played vibes! lol.
Urbie Green! 1:04
Who were the musicians?
My question too. I recognize Red Norvo on the vibraphone, but none of the others.
John Markham on drums - from San Francisco.
