Hi Ray- Thanks for the personnel update ! I was there that night, but didn't appreciate the music being so young (10) at the time (Les brought Dennis & I there). And thank you for playing at my wedding in '87 @Odessey Restaurant.
      Sincerely- Gary Robinson

Benny Goodman in the 1960’s was still playing great, I saw him the next year right after playing in Moscow, this was August

What do you mean "still"? His technique and tone peaked during the 70; I would even go as far as to say that during his tour in Japan during the early 80s he was at his best, by far.

Its outside, its live and the sound balance is superb. Is that the only mic out in front? How did Benny get the clarinet to ALWAYS be heard over the band even when he is nowhere near the mic! The quartet just him and piano, superb then the bass and drums in on Avalon and its just perfect!

Originally telecast on September 15, 1961. This was also an "audition" for a proposed weekly series that NBC passed on.

What happened to the performance by The Yachtsmen Quartet that Benny mentioned at the start ? Did it not make the TV broadcast ?

This was not a touring band - the personnel was drawn from Hollywood's studios. The actual filming was in May or June. Lots of under-30's in the audience, as well as members of the BG's original fan base.

This band is terrific. Better than the one he took to Russia. Too many whiners in that one.
