Can't stop my foot from tapping, hands playing air drums and goosebumps from bouncing up and down my arms and legs. I'm 69 now and loved this stuff since i was 10. Never get tired of it.

I was 15 whenI first heard this, some 65 years ago. I thought WOW! there is music out there so much more rewarding than the pop stuff I was used to. I became a fan of BG's Trio and Quartet, and subsequently to classical, especially chamber music. It helped open a whole new world for me. It's wonderful to see/hear it again after so long. Thank you!

  • @ChibiTheFloof

I love with every classical or whatever type of genre song you fling at Disney, they can still find a way to make a masterpiece of colors and characters that just fit so well with the music itself. 😁

@jbpolhamus My mother took me to see this feature when I was 10. I was already hooked on BG, but this really knocked my lights out, so to speak. THe Disney cartoonists were in top form when they did this, but Benny and the guys steal the show, especially on the last chorus. Takes the phrase, "the joy of playing", to previously unattained heights.

though velocity of songs changed to get into fast running pictures , Benny Goodman certainly was one of the most known high-tech. musicians on RAGTIME..amazing tunes. I myself was studying Benny Goodman,s varyfied Improvising Patterns. Did help a lot to get along with other popular tunes to be right on the ball by playing without knowing the tunes really.

Run instruments run!! 2:32-Love how the piano's keys become water to put out the fire and the clarinet turns into a fish!! A fine example of bebop jazz! The FANTASIA comparison is closer than you think; had that film been successful Disney planned to reissue FANTASIA on a regular basis, with new segments added and older ones dropped to keep the thing fresh. That never happened owing to World War II and the tremendous expense of FANTASIA (the music-related costs alone were over a million, and not many theaters installed the expensive sound system designed for the movie) which left Disney with a bunch of music-themed sequences that had been animated for the FANTASIA reissue. These eventually were used in a series of anthology films Disney issued in the late 'Forties, including MELODY TIME, FUN AND FANCY FREE, and MAKE MINE MUSIC, which is where "After "You've Gone" comes from. Those anthology films are pretty much forgotten today (they didn't reappear periodically in theaters the way the fairy tale films did) but they contain some wonderful moments, and "After You've Gone" is one of those. FANTASIA did eventually get an updated reissue, as FANTASIA 2000, but that experiment has not been revisited since.

Many sections from the movie were on walt Disney presents shows hosted by walt Disney and Professor Ludwig von Drake. One thing about Disney films like this one and others is you'll recognize some people that appeared other movies, like Dumbo, Alice in wonderland, Melody Time and many more.
