  • In a spectacular production, El Salvador hosted the 72nd Miss Universe on 18 November 2023, which in itself was one of the most tightly contested editions in recent years.
Right up until the crowning moment it wasn’t clear who would take the crown, but ultimately Nicaragua became the 35th different nation to hold the Miss Universe title. Sheynnis Palacios performed brilliantly, not only on finals night, but throughout the two-week competition.
Have a look at my post-pageant thoughts, captured in the hours following this historic victory.
My full, stats and facts-laden recap is coming soon!

Congratulations to all Central Americans and to all Nicaraguans. But especially congratulations to Shennys. This is the first time that Central America represents Latin America and it is well deserved. This is a woman who comes from a family with humble beginnings. This is her time to shine no matter what.

I had my eyes fixed on Nicaragua and Philippines since the very beginning because they are both gorgeous and most unique looking but i had a feeling that Nicaragua would win because of her charismatic energy and that it is held in Central America. Thailand most beautiful of the top 5 but she does not have that charismatic energy that Nicaragua possesses…sort of similar to catriona harnaaz Diana memdoza energy. The one that possesses that charismatic energy usually wins. Very happy Nicaragua won but disappointed that Philippines didn’t make top 5 because she is more beautiful and have better oratory than half of the top 5. She has the zozi beauty brain and elegance

    1. The symbolism behind Michelle Dee's gown is that it pays tribute to Apo Whang-Od, one of the last traditional indiginous tattoo artists in the Philippines.

Three of the women who did not make your top 20 list were on my list. Namibia (face of Africa) and Pakistan were two. However, South Africa was my only candidate from the continent to make my top ten. The person I was most excited about was Nepal. Among the top seven, Venezuela was least expected. We agree about the top 10 since my top five were chosen among them. Five of the women in the top ten clearly deserved to be there - they all did, I'm sure, but I liked five of them really well - four made it to the top five. Philippines was very deserving (not over-hyped) so I was disheartened when she did not make the final cut. I am thrilled that Miss Nicaragua was crowned. She is one of my favorite winners of this crown period. She ranks with Lara Dutta, Mpule Kwelagobe, and Zozibini Tunzi.
On some boards, I heard people talking about boycotting the pageant if this or that country didn't make it and I'm appalled. Year in and year out, we have had representatives from the same countries on the Miss Universe stage as the ideal of "beauty". Many of them were absolutely deserving no doubt. However, there were other countries who continue to attend faithfully even though their well-deserving representative has been left out over and over and over again. Did I say "over" enough times? Yet, you don't seem them throwing a tantrum and threaten to take their ball and go home. I love the disruption in the last two years. Love it! Beauty comes in all temples and more focus needs to be put on brains and not the passarella.

No conspiracy theory from obsessed and dishonest and desperate Filipino fans deserve an answer from the organization. Just like disgusting and dishonest conspiracy theories when Donald Trump claimed he won 2020 in a LANDSLIDE even though he’s the biggest loser in the history of the USA Presidency. Get a life!
Philippines did not make it in the top 5 simply because no one outside of the Philippines thinks she’s close to being one of the prettier contestants. Her pretend-sexy face is cheesy. Her hair was from the 90s. And she’s lucky to even make it to the Top 10 which she wouldn’t have without the Philippines beauty machine and a Filipino judge in the panel. IT’S OVER, GET OVER IT!!! Sad and disgraceful.

It is beautiful and it does carry amazing tribute and meaning (i'm a mountain guy myself here in the Philippines so this gown was a recognition to other members of the Philippine community). However, this avant garde piece seems to be a hard sell for the Miss Universe. Perhaps if it were to be worn in another Thailand-owned pageant it would have been better. I was shocked that Philippines did not make it to the top 5, but not surprise. Everyone knows how good Michelle on answering question. if she's on top 5, its over for everyone. Top 5 questions are all mediocre questions with all the girls 'pageant' answer. Puerto Rico made an obvious "pageant crime" on stage that I think the judges notice it too. Requesting for an Interpreter, then answer it with perfect English. By listening to the Interpreter, gives her enough time to think for her answer, while she already understands the judge question from the start. At least Miss Nicaragua answered the question genuinely. And finally I still don't get why Miss Australia is on top 3, apart from she's giving "Jennifer Hawkins" vibe, I should be happy that Australia place this year though. anyway great video. 😂

#TPN I always had this question in mind which i wanted to ask you why all these amazing MU winners and other amazing MU contestants choose to compete at MW first and when they loose they go for MU. Isn't MU the biggest pageant and better than MW. Andrea Meza, Catriona Grey, Sheyonis Palacio, Michelle Dee& Julia Gama etc

Miss Brazil also deserved a classification… Once more, nobody attempted to her beautiful.. She behaved and performed very well. She was spontaneous and confidente!
Unfortunately, there is a plot against brazilian contestants! It is not possible that none of them be perfect!

She is not a fluent English speaker like Puerto Rico or Thailand or even Chile, who obviously had lived in the US given how she sounded like an American.

Miss Philippines was cleared early in the competition to prevent her from snatching the crown. It would be very obvious if they do that in the top 3 head to head Q&A.

They are scared for Nicaragua to go head to head with Ms. Philippines. Why not have the strongest contenders go head to head . Thailand is poor I. Q& A. BOYCOTT Miss Universe!

Why complain everytime your fav didn’t win? Accept and move on. Miss Nicaragua won fair and square in the eyes of non-biased viewers. From India🇮🇳
