In Punjab word ' Kammi' is still in use for many hard working professionals. Religious groups ( Sunni , Shia, Ahl e Hadees, Tablèeghi jamat, Deobandi, Brelvi, Qadiani, etc etc) were Conciously created and still flourishing for vested interest. At least due to education intellectuals are discussing these issues.
In Pakistani Punjab, The Kashmiri Muslims, Sheikhs in Urban areas and the Awans in rural Salt Range and the Gilani and Qureshi, in rural Seraiki speaking South Punjab are the most intriguing.
It’s more complicated and messed up because in Hindu context things are bit defined and they also have a quote system Here it’s everything is being thrown out & brushed away with a sentence that Allah has created everyone equal so we’re equal which undermines the economic deprivation of the poor castes and poor people
