A traditional northeastern pattern that's ideal for trout in the fall, spring, and summer, the Black Ghost is a featherwing fly that creates the profile of a baitfish or a smelt. These flies have long been used to target brook trout, landlocked salmon, and lake trout in Maine and across the northeastern part of the US. If you prefer to fish with a Trout Spey rod, the Black Ghost is a phenomenal pattern to swing through riffles and runs to fool feeding fish. It's also a lot of fun to tie! Tune in as Jared provides step-by-step instructions to tie this classic fly pattern.

Love getting to the point at 9:35, in whatever I'm tying...and my thread breaks!
ugh...being new at this (about 8 mos.) I've had some success and have tied about 400 flies already...but getting used to the smaller denier threads... man, I get so stinking frustrated.
Get all that way, everything looking good, getting ready to be done and *snap* ....my thread breaks.......

Nice fly Jarod. The French tinsel you use is much stronger than the Mylar tinsel. I coat my body with thin UV resin to add durability. Fish teeth can be really hard on the traditional Mylar tinsel and floss I use. Herb Welch originally tied that fly with 4 white saddle hackles. 2 matched pair. Makes for stronger and fuller wing I think. I love the old school Rangeley style flies and that is one of my favorite. Please tie more for us.
