Back in the mid '80's I spent a week in Koya San in one of the smaller temples... I cannot recommend it highly enough.... beautiful, serene, uplifting and peaceful... GO!
Visited Koya-san early last year (2018) and I must say it was refreshing and the calmness if the place just exudes a certain peaceful aura. Definitely stay a bit at Kobo Daishi's mausoleum and feel the very relaxing aura of the monks chanting inside.
Went to koyasan twice. I visited around a dozen temples & shrines in kyoto, including kurama & kibune. And I can say koyasan okunoin is easily the most magnificent site compare to the others. No other temple could match okunoin beauty, and serenity. Also, a night stay at the temple lodging is highly reccommended.
I went there last month during winter for a day trip and it's breathtaking. The white powdery snow blanketed the pathway and the cemetery, the tall towering cedar trees (if I'm not mistaken it's cedar) and the soft howling of the wind on the background - its just beautiful.
@@KellieLStimson I'm sorry to ear that. I wish you the best recovery possible, i can't imagine how great this will be . I'm eager to visit Koyasan too (i'm planned to do that in february 2024)
This was really short but nice anyway. It was like a dessert for a fully hungry person 😋 However I enjoyed it and appreciate the good work 😊👌ありがとうございます🙏😇
@Klash Song I just picked the top three recommendations from their map itinerary. 1st the Okunoin Cemetery. 2nd Danjo Garan Sacred Temple Complex . 3rd Kongobuji Temple and it all takes 4-5 hours for just 3 top destinations.
Hello, thank you so much for sharing precious information. I am planning a day trip to Mt. Koya from Osaka on March. Would you recommend the best time to depart from Shin Osaka Station? And which time is safe to head back to Osaka from Mt. Koya? Thanks!
We recommend to enjoy Koyasan in an overnight trip from Osaka. If you do it in a daytrip, we recommend to leave Osaka as early as is comfortable for you to have as much time as possible on the mountain.
Thanks for sharing this video I have a question is it possible too doing this side trip in 1 day? Because my hotel is in Osaka I can not sleeping somewhere there in Mt Koya??
Hello there, I have been to Japan 5 times and I can tell you with certainty that covering all the spots he did within a day is impossible physically and logistically. Better do what you can while traveling in comfort
Unfortunately no. From Namba Station in Osaka you'll be taking the Nankai Railways (not JR) to the Koysasan Cablecar. Here's more access info if you're interested: www.japan-guide.com/e/e4904.html
I want to visit Koyasan from Osaka and stay the night in november, then head to Kyoto . Is it hard to travel with a large lugguage bag on wheels ? . Thanks
Traveling with large luggage through this itinerary is possible, however might prove inconvenient on the cable car and when walking around the town. A good option is to leave luggage overnight either in a coin locker or at a luggage storage facility at a major station in Osaka while you travel to Koyasan with only a smaller overnight bag. Have a good trip.
You can gain permission to film beyond the bridge if you contact the wakayama government office first, you'll need to sign a bit of paper work and you need a japanese phone number and address, alongside this comes a fee that need to be paid, it's a bit of a hassle but doable.
I think the best time to visit Mt. Koya are spring (late March, April and May) or fall (late September, October and November) seasons. Please enjoy your time in Japan.
@@lyhthegreat but people would still frown at you not doing so/just attribute it to you being a foreigner/not actually care all that much about it? I mean, just trying to make sure that I won't look like an absolute Logan Paul if I'm not bowing before either of those bridges.

I just watched your Toyama vlog and was really disappointed and this vlog was no different! The video footage was great but have you never heard of interviewing a temple monk or a waitress and hear the firsthand account of these incredible places? You should stick to metropolitan transportation vlogs or something similar! You really missed the point!
You can get mountains everywhere but it's the spirituality of mount koya that makes it special...a great presentation

Oh yeah, totally agree. Koyasan blows Kyoto completely out of the water in my humble opinion. There's just no place in the world anything like it.

Hope you will have a nice trip!

The Kumano Kodo and Koyasan is on the bucket list. Planning to do that as a coming of age trip with my boys. So beautiful. Great video.
Wonderfully done piece, very informative and I will definitely refer to it on my first trip to Japan. Thank you for the gift !
I might look into some of the walking trails. Japan’s beaut never ceases to amaze me.

Any tips on locations to store luggage? For short trips like this it would mean hopping between hotels
You could put non-essentials in a coin locker overnight at Namba Station.
Is it possible to make it as a one day trip? I'm going to Japan in May and I can only arrange it like that...

is it weird for me to feel that the cemetery is the most beautiful place in the video?
I absolutely love cemeteries, I find them peaceful and beautiful places for reflecting on life and death. But most people tell me I’m weird for that 😅

just found out this cost one thousand US dollars (the temple stay experience). High level Business Monks I see, lol
A temple stay at Mt. Koya typically costs around 100 US dollars.
