Had no idea that is what lemongrass looked like. I have only had it in teas or premade curries and I always assumed it looked like a long bit of grass lol.... This looks really yummy.
Haha, yes, many are not familiar with it's original form. It's kinda tough to chew through in it's fresh form so make sure you chop it into itty bitty pieces! Lemongrass tea is life!!! 👍
This sounds wonderful. I just need to replace the bell peppers with something because I don't like them. What would you recommend? Lemongrass is one of my favorite ingredients to cook with. The smell of it and flavor is so amazing.

Hello Sonia! Galangal has a very distinct citrus/ piney kind of flavour. Ginger flavour would be very prominent if used as a substitute so we wouldn't recommend it. The powdered galangal would be the best option if fresh is not available to you. If you cannot find it, don't worry, the lemongrass is really the star of the show in this soup! Thanks for watching! 😘
Good question! It has a bit of an earthy/ citrus kind of flavour, hard to describe as is lemongrass, haha. But galangal and lemongrass complement each other very well in recipes like this one! 😋
Just made this, very good but the galangal had some tough and stringy bits that I didn't love in the soup. Next time I may boil the galangal in the broth then remove to get the flavor without the texture

We hope you like it. Remember if you can't find all the ingredients you can sub the citrus leaves for some zest and the tamarind for lime juice. But of course if you can find the original ingredients it would be more authentic! Good luck and enjoy!

Vimean Mok I've used ginger roots before and it still tastes amazing. Galangal is expensive if you're watching your budget. I only use ginger in my kreung now because it's more budget friendly for me. It doesn't really change the flavor of your soup if you sub galangal for ginger. Hope you try it.
It's very difficult to make Cambodian recipes vegan. Nearly everything requires fish sauce or some kind of meat. It's one of the reasons why I'm not vegan or plant-based. It's not impossible--just a huge challenge.
