Basically the two professional rugby league competitions are the NRL in australia with a New Zealand team (you saw this in the warriors vs raiders game) and the Betfred super league in England with a French team. Most other professional rugby competitions will be union. Personally, I prefer rugby league because it is faster and usually has "cooler" tries and moments, however I can understand the tactical appeal of rugby union.
Grew up watching Union. Moved to Australia and have been all in with League ever since. Can't lie, there's times watching union that I'd be thinking "watching golf is less boring"
They did not mention that in league if the ball is kicked over the side line before the sixth tackle possession is gained by one team or the other by contesting it in a scrum (but usually the team that feeds the scrum wins the ball) .If its kicked out over the side line on the sixth tackle it's just a hand over to the opposition .If it goes out behind the try (Zone) it's a 7 tackle restart from the 20 meter line. But in Rugby a kick out over the side line possession is gained by a Lineout where both teams have 5 or 6 players line up facing the side line with a gap between each line of player & the ball is thrown by one of the players down the center of those two lines of players & they have to jump in the air to catch the ball & then pass or hand it off to a team mate.
I played both and I prefer League, its more fun for me because it is simpler although I prefer watching my local competition, not the NRL. There's too much technology in the NRL for me, interfering with tries and on field calls from the referee.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Awesome! 💯👍🏻you have just discovered that Rugby League “League” is much more similar to NFL With offensive set plays •10 metre rule (similar to 10 yards NFL) And one of the biggest similarities being a set number of downs or tackles/stops before the kicker gets involved 0:40
Rugby union games slow down during tackles as the ball may be contested by either side following a tackle. Rugby league allows the tackled player to retain possession provided that they have not used up their six tackles. Rugby league is similar to American football by having a set of downs to have possession of the ball.
As a rich southern public school educated toff (in reality I'm a southerner, but none of the rest), I like both league and union. I support a Union team, but will quite happily go to a league match.

Rugby League is a watered down version of superior union, League is for players who lack the brain cells to read all the plays in union. So they watered it down to tackle tackle tackle tackle tackle.. kick.. wash rinse repeat
This is a typical elitist response. Whenever the appeal of the two games is up for debate, the inevitable “brain cells” comments are trotted out. The codes are now poles apart at a professional level. Rugby Union is not a game for the more intelligent. It’s a game of complicated rules that have barely evolved and allow for match officials to impose themselves on the contest far too often. The consequence is the stop/start exhibitions that bore the pants off people and appeal to those who enjoy the kick and clap experience. The smart option is to develop a faster game which allows for skilled athletes to shine, both physically and tactically. I offer these opinions as someone who played union in my youth not league. I write this as someone who would watch both codes and enjoy both codes for a long time - until the running game disappeared from Union as it became officially professional.

Rugby league is by far the better game. Way more exciting and athletic then rugby union. You want to watch the NRL for the best rugby league. This is the competition in Australia with also 1 team in New Zealand
When it says league is primarily played in Australia its the truth. Not a lot of people care about union in Australia anymore and union is losing a lot of potential players to league just because the competition is so much tighter atm, and easy to watch. Rugby League continues to evolve to get faster and more exciting. funny, I prefer League the way it was in the 60s to 80s pushing in the scums. But he is right in one thing. I don't know about everyone equally in League everyone has a different roll and job to do and like Union half the team are smaller faster backs and half are bigger forwards. Forwards are the sledge hammers and tacklers and the Backs are the fast runners running on angles to exploit the gap. League originally didn't have 6 tackles.
His explanation is extremely basic & that’s ok, but it doesn’t account for the evolution in league. Rugby League kept reasonably similar rules for a long time. There were contested play the balls until the 1980s - when players were tackled, both the player with the ball and the tackler could strike for the ball when it was placed on the ground. This aligned with the old limited tackle rule, in which teams could keep the ball for an unlimited period, or until they lost it (dropped, kicked, stolen, contested in play the ball). It was changed to a four tackle rule in Australia in 1967 and then 6 tackles in 1971. I played Union as a kid but much prefer rugby league. To call union a game of chess is over praising it. Union is dying in Australia because it is overly technical and boring, which means that referees can make decisions on a myriad of rules which only serve to bring stoppages. It’s hardly a running game at all. I call it kick and clap and that’s coming from someone that played the game and used to follow it. The governing bodies in Australia have neglected grass roots junior clubs which are disappearing. The investment and focus seems to be on GPS schools. The club I played for in the heart of western Sydney folded many years ago. Many of the clubs we competed against, big clubs, in what was a healthy district for football have also folded.
