I don't buy it. I Didn't win the lottery but I did come into a large-ish amount of money. Almost a million. Let me tell you. Life with financial security is far FAR more enjoyable than a life of never knowing if I will eat or have shelter next week. Happiness definitely increased. Doesn't mean life is perfect but omg the money helps!

You should compare with some one who has a steady job he enjoys, rather than with some one who can't make a living.

But so few people enjoy working. That is why a lot of people dream of winning the lottery. To be free from their jobs.

Happiness is within you, not in object. There is no happiness particle in a piece of paper or a big house, or a 100$ meal, scientist would have find it if there were any happiness particule. Think it through, you are seeking outside of you to release something that you already have in you. It's like having a key and a safe (enclosing happiness) within yourself, but in your thoughts the key can only be shifted and used by an special particle that is found in objects and beautiful girls. If you see happiness that way, it's 100% sure you'll still have major breakdown even as a billionaire. Plus, happiness do not stack over happiness, you will reach the max very fast and it will fall down as fast as it came up.

    Win the lottery:
    Step 1: Tell no one.
Step 2: Accept the lottery under a separate name, not yours. Refuse win pictures.
Step 3: Hire a financial manager to help you control and plan your spending.
Step 4: Anonymously donate to any immediate family or friends dire situations.
Step 5: Invest in a good idea, yours or someone else's.
Step 6: Accept your money in intervals or payments, making sure that your manager decides that total.
Step 7: If you need it, take a vacation.
Step 8: Hire a personal trainer to keep you in shape while you focus on other things in life.

    • @qwatsdat
      @qwatsdat 8 лет назад +8

Tim T. That is total bullshit. I can tell you have always had what you need. Try barely having enough food for a month and see how much better things are afterwards. I'm not saying people with extreme wealth are happier than those with enough. However those with enough are happier and far less stressed than those in want.

Mitt I can vouch for that as someone who has scavenged for empty bottles and begged in times of need. You know you can do better yet society doesn't give you a chance without the proper credentials. Now that I have earned a decent salary I feel that I'm hungry for more though. It's like I don't want to ever get back to that situation and the more money I have the better. Especially with poor health, you don't want to rely on that next paycheck.

People will then call you every day asking for money. They will go to your house and injure themselves so they can sue you. People might break into your house. You friends and family will be jealous and greedy. No one might be a true friend anymore.

David Joe If I did win I'd keep it very much on the down low other than people I was sure I could trust (my parents would NEVER betray me). If those I did tell or those who found out started being dickheads then I guess I'd have to eliminate them from my life or just deal with it. Extra security and vigilance. Regardless I think the positives would HEAVILY outweigh the negatives.

You know, I've thought about what I would do if I won the lottery. (For examples sake, let's say, £1,000,000) To start off with, I wouldn't do anything with it. Seriously. I mean, maybe I'd treat myself to a nice meal, maybe some new video games, books, DVDs, clothes, whatever, but nothing massive. Why? Because the thought of starting anew, buying a new house, buying a new car, splashing out on a holiday, partying... I'd find it incredibly stressful. It would all be too much for me.
Suddenly there's this expectation that I need to change my life. Suddenly I need to decide who to give money to and how much. Suddenly I need to live the life I couldn't live before, even though I'm pretty content with how my life is right now. And I couldn't keep it a secret forever as it would eat me up inside. I would be pressured into making big changes, both by others and by myself. And yet all I'd be happy with is a lie in, gammon steak for dinner and an evening chilling out.
Eventually, I would buy some extravagant things, get a new car, a bigger place, take a trip somewhere and give out to my friends, family, colleagues and charities. But what would I look forward to the most? Simply not having to worry about my bank account running out, and not feeling guilty for buying luxury items. Just the feeling of never having to check my bank account and add up my electric bill, council tax, mortgage payment and other stuff to see how much is left that I can afford to spend on myself. THAT would be fantastic.

I think there's other factors that make lottery winners not as happy as we think they should be. The fact that the the money doesn't come with self fulfillment. When people become successful through their own work they're able to look back and think " I did that" and they feel successful as a person and not just financially. Whereas a lottery winner understands, at least on a subconscious level, that it was just a windfall, and so they don't get that feeling of self fulfillment.

Mitch Brown I really think that those factors only apply when the lottery winner has no other ambitions than to live off of that particular windfall. Ever consider a winner that already wanted to start a business, already had a profitable product and just used the money to further his dream. Actually getting rich to work! (Hint fast and furious 5). Anyway, if I won two million, I would be working on doubling that within a years time even if it took me not quiting my job and investing still. Even billionaires still work even if it's just to keep what they have. A person that does nothing constructive in life soon become destructive and withers away. Money has a way of making money

It buys you freedom, it gives you financial stability, it can help in health also not having to work all the hours as a 24/7 hours as a live in carer my social life is zero, I can’t exercise so my health has been affected due to putting on weight. At 53 with no home of my own, with a government pension only to look forward to a lottery life would stop my constant worrying about my future, get my health back, give me a social life and solve many of my problems so I say this is a load of crap. My mates I only have 2 I would tell and giving money away you make an anonymous donation. Sorted!

Winning the lottery does not have to produce such negative outcomes-no matter how we focus. First and foremost i would tell as less people as possible, 2 i would not flaunt my wealth, whether i was at Home or on holiday. 3 No flashy hotels, no expensive cars or houses, 4.I would use the same yardstick to measure people that i did before because People are still the same scroungers and leeche's that they've always been. So caution to the wind) Is what springs to mind here.

Happiness is overrated. Why does everyone assume that happiness is the one and only factor that matters when it comes to anything? Of course if you overdo it (which alot of people are prone to due to the flawed belief that more of something is always better), you're not going to enjoy it for very long.
It's like playing a videogame for 100 hours. You've been working for the equipment on your character for quite awhile, but you couldn't get that one piece of gear yet after hours of grinding and you've gotten kind of sick of it, so you decide to go for the shortcut. You decide to cheat yourself the stuff you've been wanting for a long time by using the console and then realize after maybe one hour that it's not all that different. You get bored of the game overall really fast after doing this.
What makes things interesting are the rules and the knowledge that you've built and done something yourself. Growth is much more interesting than just jumping straight to the reward. Nobody "really" wants shortcuts, they're just incredibly tempting due to the natural urge of wanting the reward. It's also in our nature to look for shortcuts and figure out the system to exploit it, but those who understand the balance required to keep things interesting don't jump on every freebie train available.
Naturally, if you're not aware of this, you're not going to enjoy your sudden burst of options much, because you suddenly realize that the selfish dreams you've had for so long don't really hold up to the expectations. This is also why many relationships fail - ridiculous expectations.
The focusing illusion is a true concept, but not everyone is prone to this, because not everyone overrates the reward.
You're looking for satisfaction, not happiness. Happiness is a term that's been glorified to a completely unreasonable margin.

This is why if you win you claim the money through a trust so that you don't have to be exposed for winning all that money. You can continue your life without having to worry about people knowing you are rich. Obviously if you start buying high priced items people may be able to catch on, but if you do things discreetly, no one will be the wiser.

I'd higher private tutors, I'd pay for all my college classes in cash and not be in debt, I wouldn't have to worry about food or living expenses, etc. Then, even if I were still a millionaire I'd be able to live my dream and be a scientist.
Sounds like the lottery would make me happy because I'm not materialistic and know what would make me happy.

You probably would be happier if you won the lottery. But could you actually win? Do you buy tickets often? If everyone was automatically entered with an equal chance of winning, there probably would be plenty of happy winners. But the nature of the lottery is that the people who have the best chance of winning are the ones who spend the most. So most of the actual winners are more desperate than average, and more likely to rely on it for their happiness... and then not actually be happy as a result.

For a short time yes, but you wouldn´t be happy anymore as soon as you get used to being rich. Are you happy now? I mean you have more money than some people living on the streets or in Africa. You should be happy now.

Surely the only sensible thing to do when you have too much money is a short binge weekend, buy something nice for yourself (sports car), make an investment(s) to ensure future financial stability, give a modest sum to all friends and family, give the rest to charity. You've then got no money to worry about, a (near enough) guaranteed income for life (no money worries), family with a decent gift but not enough to worry about, charities benefit, and people can't hassle you for more because you've already given it to good causes.
I'm a strong believer that once you have enough to live comfortably any extra will make little difference to your happiness.

When I sat inside of a $60,000 corvette stingray and started it up and drove it I was happy as fuck and my confidence shot through the roof, I can't even imagine how millionaires with lamborghinis, ferraris, bugattis and other supercars feel like, that and the millions they have in the bank, they must feel like a god amongst humanity. If I had that much happiness from just a taste from the tip of the iceberg of being rich, I can't imagine how the truly rich feel.

i think ego is more of a factor, when we project a self into the future and imagine that self to have objects of desire, we expect that projected self to be the one experiencing reality, hence our experience of reality should become happier, but in reality, everything is experienced by the one awareness and that awareness has no feelings/bias as to what happens, its all accepting.

    - I pay the people a cut to not broadcast my name so nobody knows I won
    - I buy a house and land
    - I can sustain my hobbies
    - I can reduce my stress from being broke
    - I can provide a better life for myself, my dog, and eventually my child

If I won I'd buy lots of custom furniture (titanium base with lots of luxurious pads that won't lose their shape) but be careful not to spend too much. A shitload of money still isn't infinite money. I'd keep a low profile to avoid "friends" who "coincidentally" all of a sudden showing up after winning something. It's like dude if you cared that much you would have gotten in touch way before now.
I'd donate money to environmental charities and trying to preserve endangered species. Arizona has a big coal plant that threatens lots of parks in California like Joshua Tree. I'd also donate money to clean up dumps around parks.

I have no friends who can kill me or drive me to the point of suicide. My family is small and already rich. I, myself, have no money however and I also have no ambition to work (''be productive''). I am very lazy. I do however have bills and debts which cause me a lot of stress and moments of depression even.
I am bad with money, and I get very easily addicted (drugs, alcohol, games, smoking, sex, et cetera). These would be my major issues to tackle eventhough I have no social life nor am I materialistic (I'm currently wearing a shirt with 5 holes).
I'm in doubt. I say I am lazy but I do have interests and hobbies which would suit winning the lottery perfectly. Having my own gym with unlimited (healthy) food without being too tired from working to workout sounds fantastic for example. I hate working by the way. I despise it. I'm a child in that regard. I would potentially be either the worse or the most perfect person to win the lottery

the main problem with winning the lottery is the "newly rich syndrome". you suddenly have lots of money and you spend them like there's no tomorrow trying to show off and that is the main reason that you end up unhappy and maybe even broke. changes come like a chain reaction. if after winning you buy a luxurious car, you will have to get clothes to match and a house where you can keep the new car safe. you cant however use your old furniture in the new house, you have to buy new. the house and car will raise your overall taxes and soon you will get surrounded by people who want a slice of the cake that is you bank account and you will spend even more to keep your rich image etc... you can guess how its going to end and 99% of the people, even if they think they can, cant actually control themselves from getting to that point
