Love the visceral nostalgia this song gives me. It's so crazy how much I underappreciated my younger self and those past relationships with people that I thought would be forever in my life, only to barely remember some of their faces and names. But the beauty of those feelings is always with me. Especially when listening to this underrated masterpiece.❤
Looking back on the memories And the way we used to live I remember that old sign to London By the river 'cross from the bridge At seven the bell used to ring From up on the hill We've moved on from yesterday Time back then stood still Call to the children come in They'd hide and relentlessly sin The baby that cried Would be masked by the wind And you'd open your arms And hold me close in And we thought and we thought With our love and own piece of mind And we fought and we fought We didn't understand But the tree wasn't blind (Chorus) Movin' on from yesterday Let it pass you by But the tree knows everything Movin' on from yesterday Gonna let you go n' pass you by But the tree knows everything Knows everything Looking back on the memories And the way we used to live I remember that old sign to London By the river 'cross from the bridge At seven the light would go out Down at the mill We've moved on from yesterday Time back then stood still Call to the children come in They'd hide and relentlessly sin The baby that cried Would be masked By the wind And you'd open your arms And hold me close in And we thought and we thought With our love and own piece of mind And we fought and we fought We didn't understand But the tree wasn't blind
3 years ago I had to take the decision to come to Amsterdam on my own, I was so nervous because of that and feeling sad cos I was going to leave my family and friends, then I used to listen to this track again and again to calm myself down, nowadays when I listen back to that I just go back to that time make me feel proud of myself...
I cant relate with the feeling of being far from people you love its tough and you feel home sick and melancholic i use to travel to texas my homestate to california to visit my moms family on and off since 90s to 2005 never again im staying here
he did realeased it as a single, no video though i listened to it on the radio at least in my country, it's actually how i heard about Adam F the first time
I was looking for that song for 20 years ... At least! It reminds me of a warm summer morning when sun peeks through the disintegrating storm clouds and shines on the wet pavement.
It does know everything! Thankyou for the upload ma man! Big ups from Denmark! Big ups from Lithuania! Big ups from people in tha hood rite here listenin 2 this wicked tune! Peace man \/
OMG so love it, hardly heard it since its conception...pure artistic genuis and love!! Such a deep and meaningful song. How many jungle songs (or any songs) have been made about a wise old tree... only this one - so origonal
"Colours" is a masterpiece of eclectic mix of various vibes and styles dropped into "drum'n'bass" box. I've heard it when it was released back in 1997 and it still amazes me, to this day, it's from an era when listening to whole albums mattered so much, not just pick a song kind of thing. Would anybody recommend something so profound and similar in vibes in this genre?
IS THAT GOOD ::::: IS THAT GOOD ::: IT NEEDS A 1 houre version ..... cant get enough from that vibes and brilliant voice now i Know WHY his father second name is " STARDUST" .......
Can anyone recommend more songs/artists like this....bought this album when i visited the UK years ago but I need more soothing music like this right now...thanks for any help.
Introduced to this dj by my son. He's off to see Adam F tonight in Camden. I believe Tracey Thorn is the vocalist who is married to Ben Watt (House DJ). Nice easy listening tune and I'm not one for drum and base.
i'm trying to learn this on guitar and i find that i love it so much that i'm afraid to really get into it. The elements that make this song special to me are so deeply ingrained that it actually scares me to try to become the song through learning how to communicate it back to the world...
I'll tell you the secret I bought Adam F CD and have ripped this track back in 199x I don't remember clearly correct date, it was scratched exactly at same time when you hear ticks :) I did tried running rip over and polishing CD, that's what i got finally. Small world hah, I have shared it over first P2P network called Audiogalaxy. My apologizes for that scratch for all 250K viewers ;)
I think she's referring to a tree somewhere in Hull England. Hull is situated on a river and it also used to be home to a department store in the 80s that had a slogan claiming they could sell you 'everything but the girl'. Canr remember the name of the shop
Thanx Jimmy feels so good to have dear friends like You having good will to cheer each other MERRIEST OF CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND AND IN THE WHOLE WORLD º AND DON'T FORGET WE CAN ALL TOGETHER ATTAIN BY THE CHANT IN OUR HEARTS AND THE GOOD IN OUR MINDS , A QUANTUM LEAP THAT SHALL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH DEAREST OF FRIENDS WITH THE LIGHT IN MY HEART I WISH YOU EACH A HAPPIEST OF CHRISTMAS Mine de México*

Looking back on the memories
And the way we used to live
I remember that old sign to London
By the river 'cross from the bridge
At seven the bell used to ring
From up on the hill
We've moved on from yesterday
Time back then stood still
Call to the children come in
They'd hide and relentlessly sin
The baby that cried
Would be masked by the wind
And you'd open your arms
And hold me close in
And we thought and we thought
With our love and own piece of mind
And we fought and we fought
We didn't understand
But the tree wasn't blind
(Chorus)
Movin' on from yesterday
Let it pass you by
But the tree knows everything
Movin' on from yesterday
Gonna let you go n' pass you by
But the tree knows everything
Knows everything
Looking back on the memories
And the way we used to live
I remember that old sign to London
By the river 'cross from the bridge
At seven the light would go out
Down at the mill
We've moved on from yesterday
Time back then stood still
Call to the children come in
They'd hide and relentlessly sin
The baby that cried
Would be masked
By the wind
And you'd open your arms
And hold me close in
And we thought and we thought
With our love and own piece of mind
And we fought and we fought
We didn't understand
But the tree wasn't blind
Thank you
For years I thought "Call to the children come in" was "Thoughts of a cheery kind"
Oh well😅

Listening to it brings me great memories, when I was 18 in 1998, I used to go to the park riding my mountain bike.

I've never heard Adam F's music before but it's strangely nostalgic. Love it!

the best thing about this record is the way it segues into 'circles' on the cd

Yeah love this song.
Check out the cover of "the old house" Smiths tune
done by Everything but the girl (live)
amazing.
Amazing, is this trance? use to listen to alot of this type of music back in early to mid 2000s
It's 90ies style Drum & Bass...
1997 old song wow
Aleš Sigl Came out when Drum & Bass was as it's high point in terms of musicality & innovation. The Club scene was gritty and exciting...
Sure :) I know all oldies are better than nowadays right? :)
Aleš Sigl As we say it over here in Russia, an old friend is better than two new ones.
Thanx Jimmy feels so good to have dear friends like You having good will to cheer each other
MERRIEST OF CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND AND IN THE WHOLE WORLD º AND
DON'T FORGET WE CAN ALL TOGETHER ATTAIN BY THE CHANT IN OUR HEARTS AND THE GOOD IN OUR MINDS , A QUANTUM LEAP THAT SHALL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

@dannnyp09 it is truly an amazing album. The way this tune blends into Circles is pretty ridiculous.
