Thought I would hate insta-love in The Sun Is Also A Star but I really liked it. Btw, Traitor's Blade (and the whole Greatcoats series) was really good. Has a 3 Musketeers but in a fantasy setting feel to it.
When I saw the title of this video, I found myself expecting 10:26 😄lol "The Night Tiger" by Yangsze Choo was one of those books for me. It's not the kind of book I'd normally pick up, but I read it this year during the Asian Readathon and found it so interesting! It made me want to read more books with this kind of mysterious vibe, and ones that take place in Asia!
I started the Love Con on audiobook and you're right it's so good! I love the two main characters and the fun geeky plot. My only issue is that the audiobook narrator doesn't do a very good job at delivering the spunk of Kenya and the heart of Cam :( otherwise I'm loving the story! Can't wait for the ending, thanks for the rec!
Not really one specific book but lately I've been obsessed with romance audiobooks, which is like the exact combination I never thought I'd enjoy. I got a Scribd substription a while ago to get a specific book that I couldn't get anywhere else (wanting to read books in your native language while living abroad can really suck sometimes) decided to try the Hating Game because I've seen it all around booktube so I was like why not. Fast forward two months it is one of my favourite books ever and I've been listening to romance books almost exclusively. My all-time favourite is Dracula so you can see the constrast between the two.
This is gonna shock some people, but I thought I was gonna hate The Cruel Prince series. I don’t like enemies to lovers, or crazy fantasy worlds, or mean love interests, but I ended up reading the entire series in a WEEK. I haven’t done that since high school! It was just so fun and I loved seeing Jude be a terrible person and do terrible things. It’s so rare to get a realistic MC like that. I usually hate first person present too, but I was so drawn into Jude’s brain that it didn’t bother me and I think it actually helped elevate the story, which is something I never thought I’d think, cause again, I normally hate first person present
i read roshani's duology in october and i really enjoyed her writing and while i've heard so many mixed things about the gilded wolves, now that i've enjoyed her writing there i'm like ehh maybe i'll give it a try haha i think it's fun to read books you think you'll dislike and be surprised. i still need to read night film. thanks for sharing your thoughts on these!

I have 3 recommendations that I feel like you would love and are all perfect to read during the winter. #1 - Murder For Christmas by Francis Duncan (wonderful cozy mystery) #2 - Early Riser by Jasper Fforde (has a winter setting and wow just wow. Probably best to go into the read not knowing much about it) #3 - A Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli (a beautifully told diverse holiday read)
I should have hated Book of Night by Holly Black b/c I’m not a fan of urban fantasy but I absolutely loved it. Thanks for helping me read outside my comfort zone. Jesse your channel for books that save me from ending up in the dreaded reading slump. Keep up the awesome work.🎉
I should have hated A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (the old writing style, the way Lucie was somewhat damsel-in-distress-ish, and how Charles Darnay was the perfect guy trope) and The Reader by Traci (epic fantasy isn't usually my thing), but those are in my top 10 favorite books, A Tale of Two Cities being #2 of all time!
I weirdly had the opposite experience with The Gilded Wolves. It seems like everyone loves it and had all the elements that I'd love too, but I DNF'd it at like 70%. I was shocked at myself! Haha

Oh, I had that experience too. With the book "A Life's Worth" from Katharina Hawthorne. In short: drama, real life thriller-ish and on top of it, indie-author. For me it's difficult to find those indie-books which are going off the bog standard way typical in books published by renowned publishing houses. I sometimes need that grid, that going down the rabbit hole. You know what I mean?😄
This was so fun to watch! I try not to read too many books that I think I will dislike but one book that surprised me was Cemetary Boys by Aiden Thomas simply because fantasy can be hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed that book and highly recommend it!
For me, it is The Magicians series by Lev Grossman and The Nature of Witches. I do not recommend these books, but I love them. With the first, my love is very subjective because it is purely about the way it is written and the emotion it evokes. I do grow to like some of the characters, and I do like the magic system and I always love having multiple worlds and academic themes and more, but I wouldn't recommend them because I don't actually think they are good books. I don't think there are a lot of strengths, but I still loved it. They have a very special place in my heart. As for the Nature of Witches, again, there are not very many strengths. I understand anyone that gives it a low rating. But there was this intensity to how she wrote the magic system, and the author has a love for nature that does bleed through and that is what drew me into the story and captured me.
I also wouldn't consider myself a romance reader, in fact I often say it's my least favourite part of a book -- but I have enjoyed some romance books in the past which have surprised me
For me it was with Aru Shah and the end of time... The main character was getting on my nerves in the beginning but after that the mythology and the adventure were so cool that I finally liked a lot the book !
I don't read books I think I'll hate. I'm probably missing out on good books, but I'm probably going to die of old age before I read everything in my tbr pile, and those are all books I think I'll, at least, like.
I thought I would hate Lord of the flies and the woman in black. Why? Because they're classics. And because of school, I thought I would hate them. Instead, I rather enjoy them. Flew through LOTF and it is now my favourite book to annotate, but TWIB was very very long for only being less than 200 pages.
Maybe I’m a person with low standards or uncritical but I don’t read books expecting to hate or dislike them, probably ‘cause buying books isn’t something I can afford that easily so I buy the really consciously XD 😅
For me it was the Percy Jackson series because I thought Greek mythology with a modern twist wouldn't be good (my best friend back then had to force me to read the first book) The infernal devices too because I'm hardcore anti love traingle ......But later these book series ended up being my all time favourites.

Stoner by John Williams shouldn’t have worked as well as it did for me. Lit fic isn’t a genre I find easy to read, I prefer plot driven narratives over character driven, but I couldn’t put it down!
Umm I thought I would hate I got reincarnated as a slime cuz the title was weird but my boyfriend loved it and he has good taste in manga so I tried it and then I'm on Amazon buying the first one I think you would like it Jesse
