      I hate all tropes too just because they are spoilers for the book. I like going into a book blind and be suprised by it and not be expecting a specific storyline. For example why would I pick a book that's marketed as having a huge plot twist? It robs you from emotions of surprise and from making predictions and speculations. (The thing about plot twists is that you DON'T SEE THEM COMING)

      The chosen one trope. It's fine but I feel like it is so overused in like every fantasy. It's just so irritating, please think of something else. Especially in young adult specifically I feel that it is the vast majority if not all uses the trope.

    So what I'm hearing is: If a book is named after a trope, it will do everything in it's power to subvert expectations of the trope

    Honestly, I now actively avoid books the lead with tropes in their marketing material. I just can’t stand it. I don’t want to hear the characters are “grumpy/sunshine” or “cinnamon rolls” - that tells me nothing about who they ARE. /rant

      Calling charcters in such manner...it is below publishing standard. I do understand all the problems with book bans, but I do have a suggestion, and it is about the controle of the process or evaluating if cinamon rolls and hot girls are really gonna sell the novel at all or should author revise the work. You are probably not the only one and majority probably does share your opinion.

    My favourite trope at the moment is grumpy/sunshine, though I do also love a good prophesy/chosen one.
    Least favourite is definitely love triangles. They're always so contrived and it's always obvious who the main pairing is anyway

    Tropes being just in the title like that, it was clear they would subvert them in some ways. I initially thought you'd read these books that are "[title] a [trope] romance" these ones had more chances ti play them straight. Although it's a good thing fir you that you didn’t choise those ones, since the ones you chose had more chance to be good.

    I have not read any of those books, but Chosen Ones recently found its way onto my tbr, and you liking it gives me more hope about it!
    fav: idk if its a trope... I guess everything is, but I really like contemporary/LGBT+/prince and commoner (who does not work for anything to do with the royal family) trope. maybe too specific xD - Enemies to Lovers, Soulmates, Chosen One, are all tropes I enjoy, though mostly in fanfics
    I hate love triangles, though i did recently pick up the first volume of a manga that has the subversion of the love triangle where the love interests get together which is something I was looking for, we'll see how it is
    for anyone wanting to know what the Manga is called
    Spoiler:

    I personally prefer knowing which tropes are there, as I prefer making informed decisions when picking up a book. Tropes are a good way to help figure out whether I'd like the book or not. Like, if I hear that a story contains, for example, fated mates, I'm out, but if it, say, contains found family - color me intrigued.
    Now for favorite and least favorite tropes, that's a hard question and depends on the genre. Cheating and Not Like Other Girls can go burn in a trash can, as far as I am concerned, while a slow-burn, proper hate-to-love as well as a non-harem isekai are some of my favorite tropes.

    I actually love a lot of tropes but hate the use of them in marketing if that makes sense. I love a good enemies to lovers, but some books promoted that way are a let down because the characters were never truly enemies. I do loath love triangles in pretty much all cases though! 😂 Chosen One can sometimes annoy me but I love fantasy too much for that to actually negatively affect my enjoyment of the books. But I really loved the concept of this video and want to read some of these books now!

    I am sorry, I do understand it is probably a trend or a common thing in USA to follow the trends, but there are so many great books written not too long ago, it is shame to miss them.
    These books are mainly genre books, if I am not mistaken.
    Among them, there are a really good ones, but of you are bored with these, there are magnificiently enormous possibilities to read beyond genre literature, like biographies, from music and sport stars to great historical figures, how to do books on all kinds of topics, poetry, stage plays, fairy tales, gorish books, psychological horros like Tenant, some love novels that did defy the genre expectations, Brontë sisters' writing are classic and language is probably bit difficult, but their love stories really stand out for a good reason.

    I love enemies to lovers in fantasy but I hate enemies to lovers in contemporary romance cause it just doesn't work there. They're either rivals or they're enemies because of some silly misunderstanding. The amount of times I've read a book and the whole time the main characters were "oh my god, i hate them cause of THAT ONE incident" only to find THE incident was the other person looking at them weird for a moment. Obviously I also hate misunderstanding trope, like girl, just talk to each other 💀

    Not Like Other Girls is literally how I felt, growing up.
    I didn't feel like it was a bad thing to be like other girls, but I *did* feel like it was a bad thing that other people expected me to be or wanted to force me in some ways to be more like them / other girls, I felt like too many people treated it like it was a bad thing to be in their opinions too much unlike other girls when I felt that every person being their own unique/independent/individual self should be fine no matter how similar or dissimilar to each other.
    It kind of bothers me how much resentment there is for the trope, when .. it isn't the trope itself that is bad, it's what exactly is or isn't done with it specifically on an individual case-by-case basis that can be either awful or fantastic. Much like any other trope, including love-triangles and chosen ones, and so on. Buut maybe that's just me.😅
    Not Like Other Girls did not begin with the purpose of making it somehow superior to be unlike other girls, it began as an attempt at creating a safe/normalizing/welcoming space for people who didn't necessarily fit in or fit the mold of society or their peers exactly. That wasn't a bad thing. Regardless of whether it ended up taken, also, in some pretty bad directions often enough too or not. It's not as if there ISN'T a stereotype that lots of people have been shamed or harassed or such for not fitting into. Even though people also shouldn't be shamed or harassed for just naturally fitting into it either.
    If any of that even makes any sense.
    I dunno . 😁😁 🤷🤷‍♀️🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @heatherbocks
      @heatherbocks 4 месяца назад

      In my experience it is very much an internalized misogyny thing 🤷🏼‍♀️ probably depends what time you were growing up at

    • @jaginaiaelectrizs6341
      @jaginaiaelectrizs6341 4 месяца назад

      @@heatherbocks Yeah, because it was misogynistic that there are all these stereotypes about when girls are or aren't even like or not like to begin with. Because misogyny exists, if something involves gals, it's pretty much inevitable that sooner or later misogyny will always end up somehow tied into it sooner or later too. But "not like other girls" did not originate as a way of reinforcing those stereotypes, it began as a way of trying to push back against them-I remember the trope from before it was even an official labeled trope at all, it was just a trend that was beginning to reoccur more and more frequently until eventually being identified and labeled. Unfortunately, everything gets co-opted and twisted into things other than its original intentions eventually. It isn't the trope that is the problem, it's how the trope is or isn't utilized, and different stories/writers may or may not utilize it differently than others do.

  • @oliviaallen4767

    I dont know if its a trope, but Ive found that I prefer books where the character has to gain knowledge in overwhelming amounts, like in a school setting or pouring over archaic books where they learn magic or something. Its not necessarily that I like the author to infodump, its more the setting causes them to have to research and master their magic or science

    It is not ruined, but if author titles it with trope, that probably means the content will not be promising either.
    However, if you are interested in title/topic, do look inside the cover, maybe they changed the title due to other things unrelated to book, and you may even enjoy such title.

  • @caitlyn.m.t9618

    I haven't read any books titled with a trope. Now you have managed to find fairly interesting ones here, but for the most part I see it for romances or romantic comedies which are books I am much more less likely to pick up. And some are for personal grievances for the trope such as... I don't even know if this one but 'she gets the girl'. I know I look too far into the phrase get the girl but I don't like that that phrase because it makes it feel the love interest is more of a prize instead of being written as a romance, and that the love interest feelings doesn't really matter. Typically this is between a guy and a girl that the phrase is used with the girl being the love interest. Making it queer doesn't really change my feelings on it, even though I can recognise that it can mean something different in this case. Aka they actually get together instead of it being queerbait. This is one example but this is typically my response to them.

    Horror, I always thought, meant that something about it would be horrific if it happened to someone in real life.....but it can be delivered, in fiction, in just about any kinda way; from cheesy or humorous to more serious and/or legitimately chilling, all depending. 🤔 Buuuut, I dunno, maybe that's just my own weird misperceptions as someone who has never much gravitated toward nor typically cared much for any horror in general or that I have consumed, except for horror/thriller or psychological horror type stuff specifically.
