I loved Larry... but Kareem was is and always will be the GREATEST of all time.. a true legend. Class act.. and hands down the most beautiful shot EVER
Wilt blocked it a lot more than once. There's one game with video footage where he blocked 3 consecutive skyhooks. In another game, there's newspaper clippings you can easily find online of Chamberlain blocking 19 Bucks shots, including 6 by Jabbar.
"If Kareem faced 7 footers" Copy and paste: Ever heard of Wilt (7 1'), Hakeem (7 0'), Patrick Ewing (7-0), Robert Parish (7 0'), Mark Eaton (7 4'), Manute Bol (7 7'), Bill Walton (6 11'), Artis Gilmore (7-2), Ralph Sampson (7-4), Walt Bellamy (6 11').....

He did not dominate Wilt lmao. Wilt beat him 9 out of 11 games in the 72 season and this was a 35-year-old Wilt coming off a career-ending knee surgery. If you can watch the 4th quarter of game 6 Wilt destroyed him. The guy who scored over 4000 points in one season and averaged 50.7 points a game and 26 rebounds for a whole season while playing over 48 minutes a game including overtime and never fouled out. He scored 100 freakin points in a game!!!!! He still owns over 60 records in the NBA and hasn't played for 52 years overwhelming evidence of who is the true goat. I can not believe I still have to point these facts out. People forget so easily! No one can argue these facts but I understand that Kareem is your favourite. Once you look into both of their characters you might like Wilt better. Kareem is the second-best center and if Bill Walton could have stayed healthy he would be a easy 3 or 4 along with Bill.@@onlytruth777
@@thedude3538 no, jabbar skyhook he shot at any angle it more complex than the dream shake, Hakeem has more low post moves in the pant like Kevin McHale has a low post clinic, he the professor
@@lloydkline3265 Kareem was not as "unstoppable" as they claim. The secret was to play him physical and beat him to or push him out of his skyhook range. What would happen if you push Hakeem further out or counter in any way? kareem would play another great center about 4 times in 82 games but when the playoff started that 82 turns into a 7 game series. All the great centers knew this and this is why he played worse in the playoff vs old wilt (afterknee surgery) Nate Thurmond Mose Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon regardless of age or era. Just to prove what I'm talking about, what dominate center did kareem beat during the years he won champs? Beside solo old wilt (after knee surgery) when it was 2 against 1 in 1971. Why haven't anybody noticed that the only time the Show Time Lakers didn't make it to the Finals in the 80s was when Kareem was matched up against Hakeem or Hakeems mentor Mose Malone. And then to top it off, losing to Mose Malone again in the Finals.
Indeed the greatest weapon in basketball history. But… you can watch Wilt blocking TWO shy hooks in a row here on youtube. Wilt was the ONLY man with the size and athleticism to challenge this shot in history.

That must have scared him for life lmao.@@onlytruth777
THE GREATEST. Kareem is the greatest because he scored more points than anyone in the league, and he did it with character and finesse! Kareem is the greatest because I'd pay money to see him play over ANYONE!
gerizzyYMcrew ummm.. he also retired as the leading shot blocker of all time... and most all defensive selections ever. Pretty sure he knows its not all about points.
I am really proud that when i step on the court people look at my shot and compare it to Kareems shot. IDK but i love shooting 1 handed hooks, and i've become good at it.
@ "I used it to become the leading scorer of the NBA, there must be something about it that works." I don't see how that simple fact doesn't resonate with today's players.
the most underappreciated superstar ever! Everyone who thinks Jordan was better, was probably born in the 1980's. Kareem was great in high school, college, and the pro's. Today it's about style, how good do I look! think about it, in Magics first game, that was a 16 foot skyhook to win the game! but everyone talks about magic. sad.
+Jordan Harp eyeball test, I saw Kareem play. you could also say Oscar and Magic didn't win a championship without Kareem. The point is, teams win championships not individual players. Plus Kareem didn't have great point guards in high school or college. you can debate this until the end of time, we all have our favorite players and our minds can't be changed! that's what makes the comparing so much fun.
+Dolphin Goosby I think he's trying to tell you, that those guys think MJ's the best. As does Isiah Thomas, who also wasn't born in the 80's, and he even had personal grudge with MJ, which would be a reason more for him to pretend somebody else was better, but he's straight forward.
+Dolphin Goosby Seems like his reputation is coming back. Don't know if you follow Bill Simmons( recently canned by ESPN), but he might be the world's leading basketball geek. In his book he picked Kareem as the #3 player of all time, behind only Jordan and Russell.
Players today are 1. Not very bright. 2. Selfish 3. Don't know the fundamentals 4. The old Laker teams were basketball genius's You will never see shots like that or left handed hooks and passes like Magic.. Kareem's sky hook was unstoppable. When he extended, the ball comes off his hand over 11 feet high. If you doubled him up, he would find the open man.But they practiced and practiced for thousands of hours, to be able to trust left hand hooks. Or crazy left handed finger rolls like Worthy. Hops and crossovers are the two things they practice now.
vin russo "My generation was better"... 50s players/fans were saying the exact same thing about Wilt Chamberlain & other NBA stars in the 60s : 1) They were selfish. 2) They weren't as devoted to the game. 3) They weren't smart. 4) They only loved money. 5) They didn't have fundamentals 6) etc. Seems like people haven't changed an iota in the last 57 years.
***** Kareem Won all the time too. At all level's of basketball. Has more championships then Jordan, More league MVP's,has more points, Assists, Avg a DD his entire career, played more games and minutes. That's why he's the GOAT.
Now if some crazy person with a 7ft+ genetic capability will start developing a 3pt sky hook from 9-11 years, we may be on to something absolutely extraordinary..
I checked it out. Good stuff. But he will struggle to do that in games consistently. He's too small to effectively do it without interference. The biggest advantage of the skyhook lies in its near invincibility when an extremely tall person masters it.
In my eyes Kareem is the greatest big man of all time and could be argued as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Don't hate do your research. Give this man some love
Wilt Chamberlain blocked Kareem's shots MANY times. Not just what you find on RUclips. Three blocks in the first game they ever played. Had six Kareem blocks in another game. Newspaper accounts verify this.
Kareem had no weakness. He was very good to excellent in all aspects, O and D, the tangibles and the intangibles. He was dependable, durable and exuded leadership on the court, albeit he was shy and elusive off the court. Wilt had far greater athleticism and more physically gifted. But he had several key weakness; such as FT%, scoring beyond the paint and unwillingness to foul-out (never did in his career and was very proud of it), which made him a liability late in the game on both sides of the court. Hack-a-Wilt preceded Hack-a-Shaq by 30 years. Wilt was also undisciplined and not a very good teammate. Wilt had only two worthy opponents during the 60s; Russell and Reed. Kareem battled great centers throughout his career, starting with Wilt but also include Walton, Malone, Cowen in the 70s and Parish, Olajuwon, Ewing in the 80s. Therefore Kareem is the best center ever.
Kareem had a weakness. He couldn't hang under the boards with physical centers. Moses took him apart on numerous occasions, as did Wilt. KAJ didn't like banging with very physical centers, as he didn't have the pure physical strength of a Wilt or the bruising mentality of Moses.
Kpaw While Kareem may have been overpowered by Wilt, Moses and other brute centers (Walton, Lanier, Dawkins, Laimbeer, etc.) on the defensive end from time to time, he almost always redeemed himself on the offensive end. What made skyhook so dangerous was that Kareem could launch from the perimeter, forcing opposing center to leave the paint. Don't forget that he was also an excellent and unselfish passer.... unlike Moses the "Black Hole".
Tony Chen You're not being fair to Moses here. With the 76ers, when the ball went low they expected it to go through the hoop, not get passed back out. It must have worked, as they won a title.
Kpaw I must admit of all the great centers of the late 70s - 80s, I don't have much recollection of Moses, even though he was indeed one of THE best of that era. I recalled he scored by sheer brute force and determination, unlike the poetic Kareem with his graceful skyhook. As a center scoring mostly around the paint, his lifetime FG% of .491 was kind of low, although his FT% was a very good .769. Another reason I overlooked him was that he bounced around too much after 76ers, which somewhat diminished the greatness value of a player, kind of like latter-day Shaq.
Saying Wilt played against only two great centers is wrong. 43% of the games Wilt played in, he played against a center who is now in the Hall of Fame. No one else can say that. Also, late in games I saw Wilt play some nasty defense with four fouls. He also had a nice finger roll and could shoot from distance, but the reason he didn't do it is two-fold. 1. He wasn't asked to do it. 2. Wilt, unlike any other center besides prime Shaq, had the be the man on offense AND defense for a good part of his career. There is no center in history who combined pure athletic power, leaping ability, passing, rim protection, speed, and scoring all wrapped up in one person like Wilt. Only prime Shaq can come very close to making that claim.
The sky hook is unstoppable. Not even King Kong on a ladder can block Kareem's sky hook. I still can't understand why centers these days don't use the sky hook anymore? It's effective and brutal.
Here are the actual numbers of Wilt vs Kareem Head to Head for their first 3 years (1969,70 & 71). Note: Three days after their 1st meeting in 1969, Wilt got injured and required major knee surgery. They only played each other once that season. Wilt is aged 33-35. Kareem is 22-24. In all but the first game, Wilt is a few years past his prime and coming back from a major knee injury. Kareem is healthy, but still a year or two away from his prime. Old man Wilt does just fine against young Buck (pun intended) Jabbar. Wilt almost always shoots well over 50% while holding Kareem to under 40% shooting five different times. Kareem ain't no 6'5" white guy. Shaq missed too many games in his career, probably due to his undisciplined with weight. He's modern day Wilt but without the durability. If I'm to build an all-time Dream Team, Kareem and Wilt would be my center.
Tony Chen Yeah, its also really hard to say who is the best beteween them, because they are all different types of centre with their forces and weaknesess. Shaq and Wilt are similar, but other then that theyre all different.
***** The ironic thing about Chamberlain was when he concentrated less on scoring and more on defense, passing and rebounding (like Russell), he ended up winning championships on two of the greatest single-season teams in NBA history.
+Manjoo Medo lol lebron has more playoff game-winners than kobe already.............kobe choked by shooting 25% in game 7 of the 2010 finals and got saved by gasol and artest.........kobe is a myth for casual fans with NO FACTS to back it up........kobe's playoff clutch stats are the worst in nba history.......he's just lucky his teammates show up at the right time.........u sound clueless and dumb as fuck lol..........lebron is better than kobe but not jordan coz jordan is the legit GOAT.
Skyhook is good regardless of your height/weight/athleticism. I use the skyhook all the time on drives and I score majority of the attempts. It was said earlier in the video why no one does it, it's not stylish enough for the current set of players. They want to do the fade away jumpshot or the slam dunk, they don't want to be in a poster throwing a skyhook over the defender, in their eyes it's not as cool.
Sky hook is so common nowadays it goes unnoticed. It doesn't get headlines. It is no longer an eye-opener, because it IS so common. Pero Antic or Nerlens Noel making a sky hook won't become nationwide breaking news.
One of my farorite players in the NBA history. I was growing on Magic and Kareem, trying to immitate both of them. I tried hard to replicate Kareem's skyhook when I played in my neighborhood and actually it worked pretty good. Most people don't know what to do when you shot like this and after they understand that they shall block my right skyhook, I developed the left. Players who tell you that it is not attractive are talking bullshit. If they could have shoot like Kareem, they would do that.
+Elijah Garcia No one could block it is part hyperbole, but it was the most unstoppable shot of all time. The vid showing Wilt blocking it is legit...difference is it was right around the rim, much easier to get to that hook (or any shot) then without much arch as opposed to a 10'-15' skyhook.
Wilt has games where has blocked as many a SIX shots a game from Jabbar. There are PLENTY more games with Wilt blocking Jabbar moments other than that one RUclips clip where he blocks him twice on one play.
It's mostly for tall people. I'm 6'8 and I have a 6'11 wingspan, I use the sky hook often. Just focus on the net and use your other arm to maintain distance from the defender.
+forestfirezz I'm a small guy, 5'10 ish with long arms. maybe a 6'2 wing span. The hook is my favorite move. I practice it a lot, it's about repitition and finding the form. when I started practicing, man posting was awkward as all hell and uncomfortable and my hook was too stiff. If you want advice - Shoot the hook like you would a pop-up runner. Release it like a finger roll while your almost at the apex of your reach, but keep it slightly diagonal. Arc is the key to mine, so this is really just how I do it.
These days my hook has some insane arc and I could probably shoot it over a guy your size. In part due to my practice and how I actually fade (hop away as I call it) while shooting it. A bit like the Dirk one legged fader, but with a hook and a small guy
Banana Fort that's strange... I'm more of a guard type of player and when I first did the hook many years ago, it was all natural, I didn't even like practice it. One day I saw it on RUclips, then when I was playing a pickup game I just did a hook, and I was like "hey this is a nice move" and I included this in my go to moves. Keep on practicing this, you won't regret. Tip: remember to keep the hook soft, don't just chuck it at the rim or board. Also, release they hook at the top of your jump by flicking your wrist and like moving your arms slightly.
I’ve been using this shot in pickup basketball games forever. I never really thought about it till last time I drained it in someone’s face and someone screamed sky hook while I was shooting it. I was like damn I really got down the old school Kareem Sky Hook.
Kareem was an alltime great and a great role model. He doesn't get nearly enough credit anymore, but I don't imagine he gets too worked up over other people's opinions.
Before Kareem...hook was a very valid shot used by many players. It's unstoppable. Great shot for little guys even to shoot over big guys. One on one it's a great shot. Easy to shoot because it's a fluid movement.
MuricanEagle try again with better comeback you fucking clown, go back and watch a fucking football game, you don't belong in this basketball conversation
I remember Bill Russell calling it the most beautiful shot in the game. I think it, and Julius Erving's finger rolls, were the two most elegant, beautiful shots I had ever seen.
He qualified it. Note that he didn't actually say he's never been blocked, period. He said by someone guarding him. And added as long as he knew where the person was and got his body between them. So I take it that was when someone was bodying him. And to date the only person I've seen block the Skyhook while they were bodying him was Nate Thurmond. Fair to say I didn't see all of WIlt's blocks, but those I saw, Wilt was always smart enough to get some separation. Lol.
I've seen a couple of videos of Wilt blocking Kareem's skyhook. Kareem is right, Wilt wasn't guarding him at the time. What he did was anticipate and he used his height (only 1 inch or 2 cm shorter than Kareem) and leap to block it. Wilt and Hakeem Olajuwon are the only ones I've heard of who did block it.
His skyhook was the premier offensive weapon ever as was noted. He played on such a high level for 20 years.I watched all 20 seasons. If you want to start a team to play against anyone you start with abdul jabbar, russell, and chamberlain. Then you add the rest of the guys. These were the three kingpins of the game.
***** He's a bit of a troll that phillyslasher, at least I hope so lol. Disgusting knowledge. I'm not just saying that from this video, but all video's he has poisoned.
I never seen anyone as coordinated with any hook shot like Kareem. He released it with a high point with the flick of the wrist was a beauty. Not to mention his body was essentially an offensive lineman for his shot.
He was the greatest at his position. Points scored alone does not a great player make. Kareem used his fundamental expertise to slay his opponents. He perfected his craft and is respected by people who know the game. Why would a center shoot a fade away? Remember follow your shot!
wow, this video motivated to master the skyhook.. i think the nba player who's using the hook shot now and gaining advantage is Yao. He uses it most of the time, and it really helped him score a lot of points.
now i'm not bragging but i can score the sky hook pretty often.n i think its one of my best achievements of my lifetime all thanks to Kareem!! n i'm just 18!! yipee!! ^_^!!
Yo the Lakers' rookie Zubac is learning how to do this move and theres recent footage of him doing it. He's not there yet but he's getting the fundamentals through
Its very simple people suggesting bring back the hook shot. But Kenny Smith suggested the hook shot was Kareerms shot. He said Magic Johnson tried to develop a hook shot that was as devastating as Kareem's and wasn't able to do it. I just think Kareem had a special talent for the shot and very few big man can re-produce the shot by practice you have to have a special knack for it that Kareem did.
by far the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. jordan is only considered the best because he won all those championships, but if i were to choose, i'd pick kareem for my team every day of the week. the skyhook is incredible
I would take a prime Wilt any day ! I would even take an old pissed-off Wilt any day as he beat young Kareem on an injured knee at 35 years old in 9 out of 11 games in 1972!
"I loved the fact that no one could really block my shot. I jumped so high that there was nothing that they could do. When you have no fear, it's just going to make you much better at what you're doing." - Wilt Chamberlain
The skyhook in a incredible shot. You don`t see it anymore which is a shame but, I don`t think it`s because guys don`t know how or don`t want to learn how I think there`s two reasons why nobody does it. Number one is because most ball players today want to be marked for individuals for there skills which is cool, but they`re shooting straight and that`s what everybody does. Next since the sky hook was patented by Kareem and the respect for him and the shot is so high they don`t dare break it.
@MrHorseback Thanks for posting that and yes, the shot was blocked but in that video, it was goal tending. If you notice, after the shot was blocked and the loose ball was recovered, the guy with the ball just sorta stopped because the ref had blowed the whistle.
Kareem was my hero when I was a kid. Truth is not many copied his skyhook back then either. Sure, Bill Walton had a nice jump hook and Kevin McHale would occasionally shoot a hook but still it just wasn't the same. Around 1980 I started taping those late night 'TAPE DELAYED' Lakers playoff games and would spend hours and hours shooting a skyhook until it became second nature. *Anybody can do it. Kareem was the real thing. Simply study his move. *not a guarantee you'll be a Hall-Of Famer
the fact that we have to argue about specific clips of it ever getting blocked, of which there are definitely less than ten, with one being a goal tend, you can call it un-blockable
gerizzyYMcrew Are you aware that Kareem won 6 MVP awards? Noone else in the weak 70's did that. So are all players that played in the 70's week? Guys named, West, Chamberlin, Robertson, Baylor, Unseld....... And it seems to me that if a player won MVP on a losing team that that show's that he is truly special. You must be 12 if you think that the NBA of the 70's was weak
gerizzyYMcrew The Lakers were in position to win game 6 because Kareem was averaging like 35 a game in those Finals. So your answer is that because Magic won 1 game in the Finals, he won the Finals for LA? Plus, if I remember correctly, Kareem won a championship without Magic, but Magic didn't win any without Kareem. Get a life dude. Weak players don't own the record for most points and have 20 year careers.
gerizzyYMcrew owned by Cowan LOL LOL, flipping idiot, go watch the game again SMH...Cowan on his best night couldn't hold Kareem by himself...However Cowan with Paul Silas, and Don Nelson Doubling and tripling kareem all night he still hit 26 points.
gerizzyYMcrew ."I WONDER WHO MADE THE DIFFERENCE....LMAOOO."...well gee, that takes a 3rd grade education to figure that out...it's call having a "TEAM" around you. Case in point Michael Jordan killed the the Celtics in 1986 buried them with 43 points per game! Unfortunately it meant nothing because the Celtics beat the Bulls 3-0...when did Michael finally win Championships? Michae won when the Bulls finnaly brought in good players. One man doesn't do it alone in the NBA...Not now not ever... Mind you, I am a Laker fanatic and you're either to young to have watched the 80s Lakers, or not savvy enough to understand that the 2 of them complimented each other as well as any two in the game. Remember, EVERY game Kareem was doubled and many times triple teamed...this left Magic to go 1 on 1 and produce the magical passes he did, to the likes of Worth, "Silk", Coop et al...conversely, do you think if the Lakers had say, Dave Corazine at Center, instead of Kareem that they would have still won? We don't know but I can tell you that Magic would have been doubled most nights. Well, they Same went for the Team I hated the most, the Celtic's. You take out McHale, Chief, and put in lesser talent and then Larry Bird is just an all-star not a Champion...learn the game or go watch golf
technically, wilt did block it, but back then it wasnt recorded as an official stat, but like i said, he did block it. hakeem did block kareem, but it was on a lay-up attempt. as for the skyhook, i love the shot. i led my team to a win after being down 10, and i did it by making 5 skyhooks in a row. its impossible to stop.
George Mikan hook shot was more of a sweeping hook Jabbar hook was more of a coordination with the left foot and jump and arch the shot , thanks to Kareem i mastered the hook shot by watching how he shot it i would get my opponent out of position fake to the right then go left and pivot off the left foot i palm the ball as i sweep and arch the hook shot letting it rotate off my finger tips and most of the time i made the shot then it became my pattern go to shot at 6'2, what made the shot so effective for me is that i had big hands and i could palm the ball.
obviously the kareem skyhook is the most unstoppable shot ever, but i think in our generation, dirk's one-legged fade away is the most unstoppable shot right now!
Sky Hook is an elegant yet amazingly dangerous shot. It looks so...harmless but if you try to block it 99% of the time you get called for goal-tending.
that's true -- it often looked as if kareem was dropping that shot in from on high. it was an amazing shot. younger wilt's bank fade was pretty much unstoppable as well, and i don't recall too many occasions when his finger roll was blocked either.
Kareem is the most perfect all around player D and O. But man the "Skyhook" was like his super power.
Nerlen's Noel should learn how to do the skyhook and bank on that his entire career.
+Joe Justjoe if Nerlens learned how to post up 1st & then add this to his game, he'll be special
In terms of 2-way dominance, Olajuwon is like right there
+Martin Waring Noel? Kristaps Porzingis. He actuallly has the skill and wingspan to learn it.

That's saying something.
Andres Guazzelli hey idiot, Wilt blocked it twice on the same possession. You can RUclips if you like.
Wilt blocked it a lot more than once. There's one game with video footage where he blocked 3 consecutive skyhooks.
In another game, there's newspaper clippings you can easily find online of Chamberlain blocking 19 Bucks shots, including 6 by Jabbar.
Dwight said he liked the Skyhook, but when he went to the Lakers and Kareem himself offered to help him, he declined.
That is so smartful.

Kareem was not as "unstoppable" as they claim.
Kareem is amazing. The legendary skyhook. Truly a lost art.
Indeed the greatest weapon in basketball history. But… you can watch Wilt blocking TWO shy hooks in a row here on youtube. Wilt was the ONLY man with the size and athleticism to challenge this shot in history.
wilt was something else I've seen that also clear clean blocks.
that block looked like goal tending and he read the ball movement doesnt really blocked kareem hook from body to body.

"I used it to become the leading scorer of the NBA, there must be something about it that works."
I don't see how that simple fact doesn't resonate with today's players.
I would personally like to thank you Kareem for the inspiration for the shot that wins me horse games all the time and gets under my friends skin!
Greatest player ever
The rawest player ever then Jordan and. Coming up the rear labron fucking beast james
the most underappreciated superstar ever! Everyone who thinks Jordan was better, was probably born in the 1980's. Kareem was great in high school, college, and the pro's. Today it's about style, how good do I look! think about it, in Magics first game, that was a 16 foot skyhook to win the game! but everyone talks about magic. sad.
magic wasn't born in the 80's neither was Lenny wilkins phil jackson or bobby knight
That's true but kareem never won a title without a great pg. Magic was huge in their success
Watching Kareem wheel and deal the skyhook never gets old.
If I'm Kevin Durrant and OKC gets bumped out playoffs, my summer would include developing a post game that includes the sky hook...

Kareem Abdul Jabbar is the Real True GOAT.,The Innovator with his Lethal Sky Hook shot..and Still up to now,NBA Scoring Leader of all time!
Study basketball history a little more.
5. most players today dont even have the devotion to spend that many hours developing the right handed Skyhook much less left handed
gerizzyYMcrew good joke
gerizzyYMcrew if you are 10 years old..

"My generation was better"...
50s players/fans were saying the exact same thing about Wilt Chamberlain & other NBA stars in the 60s :
1) They were selfish.
2) They weren't as devoted to the game.
3) They weren't smart.
4) They only loved money.
5) They didn't have fundamentals
6) etc.
Seems like people haven't changed an iota in the last 57 years.
Players are unique in their own way
Hmmmm I love that sky hook....my favorite shot in basketball, and favorite player. Poetry in basketball!
People don't use the Sky hook because
1. you have to be very tall
2. have mad hops
3 be incredibly strong.
4. mad skill

Magic and Kareem... are amazing to watch.
Now if some crazy person with a 7ft+ genetic capability will start developing a 3pt sky hook from 9-11 years, we may be on to something absolutely extraordinary..
Joel Embiid maybe?
Totally Not A Filthy Uncultured Swine I think he's already too old to effectively do that.
Yao Siabi Dammit, if only he wasn't.
Yao Siabi I know a guy who can shoot a hook shot from the 3-point line check out my page lol
Although Blocks & Steals weren't to become official NBA stats until 1974, sometimes newspaper articles or TV appearances documented "unofficial" totals. Here are just 5 of the games where documentation exists of Chamberlain blocking Jabbar.
11/20/70 - Chamberlain 28 pts, 23 rebs, 3 as, 10 blocks, 7-20 FG/FGA - 6 blocks against Jabbar
04/18/71 - Chamberlain 23 pts, 12 rebs, 4 as, 6 blocks, 10-21 FG/FGA - 5 blocks against Jabbar
04/14/72 - Chamberlain 7 pts, 14 rebs, 4 as, 10 blocks, 1-3 FG/FGA - 6 blocks against Jabbar
04/18/72 - Chamberlain 12 pts, 26 rebs, 6 as, * blocks, 2-3 FG/FGA - 4 blocks against Jabbar
04/22/72 - Chamberlain 20 pts, 24 rebs, 2 as, 9 blocks, 8-12 FG/FGA - 6 blocks against Jabbar
Shokomycoco - It is so wise and admirable of you to admit that you don't know-it-all. Not everyone has such integrity.
ShaunPhillipsAV - In those games, Wilt averaged over 5 blocks a game against Kareem alone. WILT was 34/35 years old to Kareem's 24/25
you name one player but still who said it was skyhook he mybe blocks lay ups dunks did you see it was a skyhook every block
He was a machine!!! KAREEM was the man!
Tony Chen
You're not being fair to Moses here.
The most amazing thing about the "Sky Hook" is that NOBODY has been able the duplicate that shot....That is really amazing...
The sky hook is unstoppable. Not even King Kong on a ladder can block Kareem's sky hook. I still can't understand why centers these days don't use the sky hook anymore? It's effective and brutal.
Abdul jabbars sky hook is the greatest single offensive weapon the game has ever seen!!!!
greatest center ever
Give it a rest man
Maybe it means that's my name, but I do know that you're blowing this way out of proportion
Explain? Shaq was dominant, But better than Kareem?

Thank you Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
I dont know who's the best center ever. There's Wilt, Russel, Shaq, Hakeem, Kareem who are in my top 5 but its close. (in no order)
Franky Boy Its Kareem without a doubt.

'I think there must be something about it' - says the leading scorer in the NBA
What a modest summary. Respect
Stop lying
If they could have shoot like Kareem, they would do that.
wilt is the only one to block it i hate when people say no one could block it and ohh and wilt was CLOSE no he blocked it look at a video on youtube
+hazmat1000 Manute Bol, Ralph Sampson & Olajuwon (not guarding him straight up) did.
+Bleacher Report but he blocked it twice
Wilt has games where has blocked as many a SIX shots a game from Jabbar. There are PLENTY more games with Wilt blocking Jabbar moments other than that one RUclips clip where he blocks him twice on one play.

the last line said it all.....thanks for the memories and championships
I can cross dudes up, make mid range shots and 3's. Can't hit not one hook shot even if I had to do it to save my life
It's mostly for tall people.
Yeh I do that.
I’ve been using this shot in pickup basketball games forever. I never really thought about it till last time I drained it in someone’s face and someone screamed sky hook while I was shooting it. I was like damn I really got down the old school Kareem Sky Hook.
Kareem had 31,000 points in the NBA meaning... 15,500 sky hooks :)
wrong he had a j and a wide array of post moves.
yeah i was just joking dont get hurt
+john m also he had 38 387 points, but you might have taken of the ft's
Kareem was an alltime great and a great role model. He doesn't get nearly enough credit anymore, but I don't imagine he gets too worked up over other people's opinions.
Wilt has blocked Kareem's skyhook before. I saw video.
Cuz he finally played someone his height, lol.
That was a goaltend though sorry to burst your bubbles.
KidoBagins No it wasn't. It was blocked at the apex of its flight, which is not a goaltend.
Red Ace
Wilt's done that like 4 times. Kareem scored 35,000 points in his career, so he probably made like 1000 against Wilt (exaggeration)
Tubbier Wombat Wilt did what 4 times? Block Kareem?
wow, so much wrist strength and control. thanks for posting this. i am too young to have seen kareem play in his prime- this is awesome to watch!
I used the hook shot in a 1v1, im not even tall.
Before Kareem...hook was a very valid shot used by many players. It's unstoppable. Great shot for little guys even to shoot over big guys. One on one it's a great shot. Easy to shoot because it's a fluid movement.
Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Moses, Hakeem destroy any center today.
They would shit on everybody lol
+Ryan Dupont Deandre Jordan would block the shit out of them. He is the greatest shot blocker of all time.
And the guards in the nba today would destroy the guards of then. That time was the time of centers. Now its the time of guards
MuricanEagle try again with better comeback you fucking clown, go back and watch a fucking football game, you don't belong in this basketball conversation
wellfuckman I obviously don't think Deandre Jordan is the best shot blocker of all time.. damn people are retarded on youtube
I remember Bill Russell calling it the most beautiful shot in the game. I think it, and Julius Erving's finger rolls, were the two most elegant, beautiful shots I had ever seen.
wilt chamberlain blocked it a few times
Plus Wilt had a 3-inch reach advantage over Kareem.@@Holden308
Kareem playing style is so peaceful yet so deadly at the sametime
Wilt blocked it. Lol
not the Sky Hook
vlssk857 yes the sky hook more then once
4evaeazye Nope, only once. The second time was a goaltend.
not really an hes blocked it countless amount of times
Nate S maybe once .. what does that say ...
His skyhook was the premier offensive weapon ever as was noted. He played on such a high level for 20 years.I watched all 20 seasons. If you want to start a team to play against anyone you start with abdul jabbar, russell, and chamberlain. Then you add the rest of the guys. These were the three kingpins of the game.
wilt chamberlain was better
wilt in his prime would destroy both
he grab 55 rebounds against him
***** He's a bit of a troll that phillyslasher, at least I hope so lol.
The most unipreatiated superstar in the history of sports. Body of work speaks for itself.
The most underrated and underappreciated superstar in the history of sports is Wilt Chamberlain.
He was the greatest at his position. Points scored alone does not a great player make. Kareem used his fundamental expertise to slay his opponents. He perfected his craft and is respected by people who know the game. Why would a center shoot a fade away? Remember follow your shot!
Sky hook!!!! my favorite shot personally !!!!!!!!
Kareem is the best you can't stop that hook
If Kareem played in this era, he would be a power forward
Greatest center of all time.
There needs to be a Kareem "Skyhook" statue. It was absolutely unstoppable.
GOAT James is now the all-time leading Scorer!
OMG! It's impressive. A brilliant career. A true Legend!
thx a lot 4 posting this video, love kareem.
wow, this video motivated to master the skyhook.. i think the nba player who's using the hook shot now and gaining advantage is Yao. He uses it most of the time, and it really helped him score a lot of points.
now i'm not bragging but i can score the sky hook pretty often.n i think its one of my best achievements of my lifetime all thanks to Kareem!! n i'm just 18!! yipee!! ^_^!!
Love that clip at the end. Kareem delivering the coup de gras to their big rivals, the Trailblazers.
What more would he have to do? What did MJ do that he didn't? How is he not considered the GOAT? He achieved everything that was possible
by far the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. jordan is only considered the best because he won all those championships, but if i were to choose, i'd pick kareem for my team every day of the week. the skyhook is incredible
I would take a prime Wilt any day ! I would even take an old pissed-off Wilt any day as he beat young Kareem on an injured knee at 35 years old in 9 out of 11 games in 1972!
I've always admired the hook shot. I used to use it a lot, idk know why i stopped. It'll continue to grow though.
"I loved the fact that no one could really block my shot. I jumped so high that there was nothing that they could do. When you have no fear, it's just going to make you much better at what you're doing." - Wilt Chamberlain
He was unstoppable after Wilt Chamberlain retired. Wilt had more hops and blocked the sky hook many times
@MrHorseback
Thanks for posting that and yes, the shot was blocked but in that video, it was goal tending.
If you notice, after the shot was blocked and the loose ball was recovered, the guy with the ball just sorta stopped because the ref had blowed the whistle.
i mean you simply CANNOT stop it. PERIOD.
Kareem è stato il più grande di tutti!!!!!!!!!!
Mikan=Creator of the hook shot. Kareem=Perfected the hook shot.
Greatest center of all time ... and 2nd if not the greatest player of all time ... he is extremely underrated .
gerizzyYMcrew Whatever! LOL. You obviously don't know a THING about basketball
gerizzyYMcrew Are you aware that Kareem won 6 MVP awards?
You take out McHale, Chief, and put in lesser talent and then Larry Bird is just an all-star not a Champion...learn the game or go watch golf
it is the most unstoppable shot of all time and it isn't even close
technically, wilt did block it, but back then it wasnt recorded as an official stat, but like i said, he did block it. hakeem did block kareem, but it was on a lay-up attempt. as for the skyhook, i love the shot. i led my team to a win after being down 10, and i did it by making 5 skyhooks in a row. its impossible to stop.
Kareem's skyhook was blocked by wilt chamberlain, artis Gilmore, and possibly bill willoughby
Ooo, that last one was pretty awesome!
that's true -- it often looked as if kareem was dropping that shot in from on high. it was an amazing shot. younger wilt's bank fade was pretty much unstoppable as well, and i don't recall too many occasions when his finger roll was blocked either.
A statue of him doing his trademarked Sky Hook will be so cool
He's my ALL TIME FAV Player
