*What's your favorite oddball fish that you think everyone should try?* Don't forget to watch Zenzo's video on things you should know before getting a mudskipper: ruclips.net/video/6AcuzU7OQII/видео.html
wild mudskippers LOVE digging, probably the same for these fellas. They are actually very active in the wild, constantly burrowing and fighting for the gals.
Australia had many issues with invasive species so it’s understandable… the last thing they need is for the shrimp to evolve and start eating human flesh 😅.
Yeah brackish definitely isn’t too difficult, especially compared to saltwater, since you don’t have to worry too much about having a certain amount (ocean salinity is always more or less the same, brackish environments can fluctuate over the course of a single day, so they’re bound to handle any little mistakes you might make in that regard) Instead the biggest challenge is the limited options and even more limited availability 😅 But mollies are a good choice to start out with!
When I was a kid (about 30 years ago,) I caught mudskippers in an irrigation ditch, where I lived, in Singapore. I took them home, slowly acclimated them to freshwater and they thrived! They were such interesting little personalities!
Thanks Irene for an awesome update on keeping mudskippers and brackish tanks! I'm definitely a lazy aquarist so this is encouraging. Since it's brackish do the nerite snail eggs hatch?
Thank you for the update on the mudskippers!!! You made it sound much easier than I would have expected! And even more so being in Colorado, where I would question the difficulty of keeping the the humidity up. Another type of fish I'd like to have one day :)
I wanted to thank you for the years of “beginner” videos. I have had aquariums my entire life and treated my creatures well but have always been nervous to do live plants. It was intimidating. I have watched so many of your videos I feel am ready to take on the responsibility and learn through first hand knowledge as well. I take care of a loved one who cannot help but I make this an “us” project and we are very excited :) Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experiences, even if this is the only comment I ever leave, we are very grateful. Thank you so much.
Fantastic video! I was really wondering how these worked out fornyou long term - thats something thats iften missed in "FishTube" videos, theyre about some new tank or new species, whatever the current hotness is, but theres rarely looks back on 6, 9, 12 month old tanks to see how they've worked out.
Get the foam pipe insulation . It's usually black or gray and looks a bit like a pool noodle . Cut it to fit and slide it over the back of the aquarium rim . It'll keep things from jumping out and keep the moisture in and it's easy to clean of algae and anything that gets on it
Mudskippers make such awesome pets. I would be very tempted to buy a few if any such stores that carry them were within my area. But sadly, where I live that just isn’t the case. Your setup is awesome by the way. Hope your ‘skippers live on for a good many years living happy lives with you. 😊
Woah i never heard pf pet mudskippers before! 8 year old me would have loved to see this. I loved those guys, and would even pretend to be one burrowing into a sleeping bag haha
Good to see you back, glad you're feelin a little better! I've kept a figure 8 puffer in a brackish tank (first a 15, then 20, now 40 gallon) and use 2 tbsp per gallon - I usually do 5 gallon water changes at a time, 10 if it's been several weeks. I just put the salt in the bucket then when I'm pumping the RODI water out of my trash can I use to store it in it mixes it up. I used to have a small water pump I'd put in and let it circulate the water for awhile until I was ready to do the change. That pump broke so I just put an airstone for now but usually most of the salt is absorbed. I haven't even used my refractometer since I first set up each of the tanks when I was moving him to a bigger tank. They are a little more work because I can't find any plants that will thrive in it - only some anubias has survived but definitely barely, so the water changes have to be more frequent than all of my planted tanks.
that's so cool - and this video is just lovely, cute, and funny; a really good time! But I'll just watch you keep your mudskippers - they really are some winning characters. Hope you'll be well soon or comfortable, at least! Lots of love from Denmark
i cant wait til my kiddos are bigger so i can get more pets "for them" 😆 right now in baby/toddler phase they have 80% of my attention so animals have decreased but it'll be so fun to share with them when theyre older!
Hi Irene! I just got my first 29 gallon tank and I was wondering if lyretail balloon or normal dalmation mollies would be easier.😊 BTW I'm getting kuhli loaches, my favorite fish.
I loved watching these mudskippers! They seem that have their own personalities ❤ Out of topic question: Do you guys prefer to mix saltwater for a new aquarium in buckets or in the aquarium itself? I’ve always done it in buckets, but I’m thinking that if the it needs to cycle anyway, the salt should be desolved completely by the end of it.
They are very cool... A big issue with brackish fish is the high level of aggression. Then they always get bigger than one might think. Scats, monos, and the assorted gobies get REALLY big.
I’m not sure how likely it is to be true, but I’ve heard that some species of Ulva algae (the lactuca being one) are capable of surviving in the higher end of brackish salinities (the one I heard about was around 1.015 specific gravity), maybe somebody might find it worth a try? No idea if it’ll survive the lower end, though, so it might be a bit too picky for the usual brackish keepers.
Good video, i wil share it with my son that is driving me crazy about having this skippers. I am curious what type of plant do you used for brackish food? Thanks
I used java ferns, which seem to do okay in brackish water with low specific gravity. However, they eventually end up browning and not doing well in the long run when I raised the specific gravity. I may give them a try again in the future though!

Love your setup, Irene!!
Favorite oddball obviously kuhli loaches
wild mudskippers LOVE digging, probably the same for these fellas. They are actually very active in the wild, constantly burrowing and fighting for the gals.
So happy to see you back! We love ya! Keep the vids coming!!!! You're so full of info and pure joy to listen to.
IRENE!! It’s so good to see you. Happy you’re doing better and I love learning about mudskippers. GREAT VIDEO!! ❤
So very good to hear from you. God bless you and keep you safe and happy and healthy 🙂🙏
Americans are so lucky. We can’t get hardly any fish varieties in Australia. They government has even banned shrimp
Mexico with barely any laws on what pets can you keep🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
o7 to the cousins across the pond
Australia had many issues with invasive species so it’s understandable… the last thing they need is for the shrimp to evolve and start eating human flesh 😅.
There are areas in the U.S. that are over run with invasive species. Florida for instance. Plecos are in every body of water there.
@@123kurttrukI’ve seen gifs of the water just being *filled* with countless plecos
Yes!!! Girl talks fish you are the best! I started fishkeeping thanks to you! You are a huge help to me!!! Keep on doing your amazing content!!!

Yes, very much agree!
Lots of the cute little mini pufferfish species also need brackish tanks!
I love Mollies😊
Thanks Irene! So good to see you!!

Awesome review I think this is one of the coolest experiaments you have ever tried I am glad it worked out for you!
Thanks Irene for an awesome update on keeping mudskippers and brackish tanks! I'm definitely a lazy aquarist so this is encouraging. Since it's brackish do the nerite snail eggs hatch?
Your tank is just gorgeous! You have such a great eye for tank setups. 🙂 Thanks for the great video!
This is exactly the video I needed right now :)

I learned so much! I've been so nervous to try brackish water but I feel more confident I could do it now

So glad to have you back! Thanks for making mudskippers and brackish tanks not seem so intimidating!
Great to see a video from you. I enjoy your thorough presentation of a subject.
I am inspired by this video to consider a brackish set up.
Great to see a new video from you. Fantastic, informative content. Thanks!

Thanks for posting once again. Glad to have you back. I enjoy your videos
Yea! Mudskippers are sooo interesting. Great video Irene!
hope you get well soon, you are so loved and adored out here !
So glad you are back making videos! Love your videos....honest and entertaining!
I love the set up you made for them. They do look to be very happy.

Aqua Imports is my fish store too!!! I was so tickled when you said this in your video. I thought I was tripping out, ha! Hello, from Loveland!

im glad ur posting again. i hope ur okay now❤️
great to have you back! i decided to step out of my comfort zone by starting a saltwater tank! always wanted to try!
This was totally fun to watch! Learned a lot. Miss your content, hope you are doing better.
This is really cool, and you look great! I’m glad to see you upload
I'm odd enough, so I don't keep oddball fish, LOL. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and am glad to see you back at work.
I’m my own oddball fish 😂
Loved unusual fish as well loved Kuhli Loaches video as well! Well done and very intelligent as well !
The first mudskipper video that makes me actually think I want one
right?? when I see them at the store I'm just thinking, "mmm... definitely not today"
Good to see you back, glad you're feelin a little better!

also the shot of the mudskipper behind the nerite snail was FANTASTIC
They’re so cute. The “fighting” made me squeal. I love them so much
Wonderful to see you! You make the best videos…a pea puffer is the oddest fish I have kept. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this detail rich video! Very helpful info about these fascinating species.
that's so cool - and this video is just lovely, cute, and funny; a really good time! But I'll just watch you keep your mudskippers - they really are some winning characters. Hope you'll be well soon or comfortable, at least!
Lots of love from Denmark
This was a great video. What a funny little creature, the mudskipper! Love your content.
You should make a video on Bamboo shrimp
Cool video! Thank you for sharing Irene!
She’s back!! *watches eagerly*
I’ve always mudskippers but I can barely keep up with my other tanks. Maybe in the future! 😊
U look good! Get well soon!🎉
i cant wait til my kiddos are bigger so i can get more pets "for them" 😆 right now in baby/toddler phase they have 80% of my attention so animals have decreased but it'll be so fun to share with them when theyre older!
Yay!!! Love these!

Your awesome!!! Love your videos! ❤
Beautiful setup❤❤❤
They’re so cuuute!!! ❤
MY DREAM FISH. I’m so glad you made this video 🥹🥹🥹
I didn't know brackish salinity was such a wide range. I'll try it in a few years when I have space for a second tank.
Awesome, thank you for sharing a good video. one day Maybe I will try something like that. Good to see you 👍
They're so cute and quirky!
Your mudskippers are adorable!
I loved watching these mudskippers! They seem that have their own personalities ❤

Usually in a bucket and then to measure proper salt levels
Do you have a brackish or saltwater tank
Thank you Irene! 💌💙🩵💚
We have an aqua important here in CO too, I love that store
I live near a brackish river and the only plant I see growing in is is grass at the water's edge.
These are so. friggin. cute!
Hi welcome back, is it a must for the mudskiper to have brackish or can they survive in clean freshwater with zero nitrates
Irene you're glowing! glad to see you again!
glad to see you adopted some dark souls basilisks
I've never heard of anyone keeping mudskippers. They are pretty cute looking. Interesting.
Super cool I will have to try and keep these one day 👏
They are very cool... A big issue with brackish fish is the high level of aggression. Then they always get bigger than one might think. Scats, monos, and the assorted gobies get REALLY big.
Oh, and you can keep chromide cichlids, but they might be very aggressive
They are so cute!😆💚
scud mippers
welcome back
You gotta consider the habitat these fish come from. They’re on land most of the time in the wild
You can try macro algae/ seaweed if you miss plants.
We missed you!!
Thanks for sharing.
Have you considered macroalgae in place of plants? Chaeto might do well in brackish water
Love this video I want a mudskipper
I love mudskippers! They're so goofy🤣
Huh, was just at aqua imports for the first time the other week. Small world!
They definitely have a huge selection since they sell online.
Will the nerite eggs hatch with this level of salinity? Thank you for a great video!
im doin java fern, bacopa monneri, lileopsis polythania and nana val in a brackish tank (1.005) for psuedomugil cyanodoorsailis
that red fin is pretty
I'm curious about what are the smaller fish in the tank with the skippers
Welcome back
Wow brackish water 🔥🥳
Hope you keep them
I wonder if you could grow Salicornia (pickleweed) in there. Maybe the substrate isn't right

I low key want one. The little eyes remind me of old nickelodeon cartoons.
What are the little floating things? Water fleas?
Awesome where is Zenso hope all is well with him haven't seen any vids in some time!
He's still working at Aquarium Co-Op and is in charge of running all the departments, so I'm sure they're keeping him busy!
All I look at on twitter is gobies mudskippers and salmanders lol. Japanese people really appreciate them.
@@GirlTalksFish ok , i may try a plastic java fern..😂. Tks
They’re a lot tinier than the African mudskipper I once had
I dont know why people have so much trouble keeping them they can survive overnight in a freezer
I think im in love 😅
