I especially appreciated the Camera panning How To, I knew I needed to do it when running but could not coordinate the keys. That one is tricky on the key board.
I'd like to add one important hint that gets overlooked easily and wasn't mentioned in the video: Observe the HUD and when the "Obsession Claws" are wiggling then this means the obsession is in a chase! So you are safe to do a gen.
That's a lie and I personally have seen this since I started playing except this information is false do to the fact if you're not in a squad the chances of the obsession or anyone dragging the killer to you is extremely high.
When the gates are open I don't blame the killers too much (I got insulted by my survivors teammates for stating that though once xD) I had a game recently with a Bubba facecamping from the very beginning though. We even did gens right next to the hook he was camping and he didn't care. Nobody went for the rescue, and the one on the hook didn't kill themselves, they properly wasted the killer's time until the end. All gens were done and we all escaped but the one on the hook. Killer had only 5k points. I don't see how they even have fun like that...
@@Libellulaire I agree - I had that exact scenario happen on the Silent Hill map with me being the person on the hook. My teammates checked briefly when I first went up on the hook and immediately knew what the Bubba was up to. I died right after the gate was opened, with all of my teammates escaping.
I think this is the absolute BEST guide on RUclips for beginners explaining vital concepts. All of the information is well-presented, organized, and delivered well with relevant clips. Excellent work, this is what I believe the gold standard for beginner guides should be around. This video won't be of much use for experienced/higher skilled Survivors, but it's still a good watch for them anyway just as a quick reminder or to fill in gaps they may have in knowledge.
I didn't know about flickering lights at houses to signify uncompleted gens! I liked your advice on when to go for unhooks and when to heal too, I often feel I'm getting it wrong. Thanks for putting the work into this for us.
really good guide - a few other tips: in terms of looking at the HUD, if you wait till someone gets injured until you feel safe working on a gen, you'll often waste a lot of time this way as well. You can avoid this a couple ways: If the killer is chasing the obsession then the hud will show the sort of claw things around the obsession's name moving, meaning it's safe to work on gens. As well as this, learn to stop working on gens not as soon as you hear a terror radius, but instead as soon as you hear a consistently increasing one. the music for the terror radius gradually amps up the closer the killer gets, so you can usually tell if they're actually coming to you with that, especially if you have a perk like spine chill on. There are killers and perks in this game that can make their terror radius almost take up the entire map, so it's definitely not worth being too scared of it. the only exception to this is stealth killers - there are many killers capable of taking away their terror radius and getting the jump on you. honestly one of my biggest pieces of advice getting into this game as survivor is simply learning the powers of each killer and what they look like and playing based off of that. Know which killers can take away their terror radius and at the start of the game play extra careful until you know which killer it is. If they're a killer with a consistent terror radius, you can do gens relatively peacefully as you'll always know when they're actually close. If they're a stealth killer, this obviously doesn't mean you should just ignore gens and hide. Instead, it's especially important to keep an eye on the HUD, and pan your camera to the likely entrances the killer will use to get to your room or tile. they're probably not gonna come from the very corner of the map, so just continue to work on gens and if they end up getting a free hit on you that's honestly not that big of a deal in this game. If even then that sorta thing spooks you, you can always go out of your way to find a gen more in the open. If you have constant eyes on the centre of the map, you can be pretty certain that a killer won't be able to get you off guard. (these aren't necessarily beginner tips but they were really helpful for me to get a foothold in the game and start feeling more confident in matches)
How to stop dying all the time? Play Killer. ;3 Real talk, though, the tip about the flickering lights has helped me IMMENSELY with locating generators on unfamiliar maps! Still working on more effectively panning my camera without running into things lolol. Appreciate these videos tons, man!
i have some tips as well! tip 1: When the exit gate is open do not go out unless you are pushed out by the killer or if you really have to go out and your going to be dead next hook, also don’t try to stay too close to the gate cause you want to help your team in case if someone gets hooked and you don’t want to be pushed out tip 2: When getting chased by the killer, don’t really go to any corners of the maps and try to stay in somewhere near the middle of the map so you don’t end up running into a dead end. tip 3: Try your best to get chased for a while, it helps out the team when their doing gens tip 4: After getting chased maybe just go on a gen so you’re at least doing something to help out even more *Im not a good dbd player but we all have to practice to get good so if you aren’t good right now, you’ll be good later :)*
Tip one is mega level doo doo, unless your in swf you won’t meet anyone you play with again, why would I risk my items and bp for a solo queue teammate
I play solo and I can't tell you how many times I'm yelling at my monitor as another survivor comes to unhook me with the killer right behind them.... On the other hand, I will intentionally get into a chase to pull the killer away from a hooked survivor so someone else can get the rescue.
Only time I've done that is when the other survivor isn't doing sh*t and the survivor on hooks about to go on second hook or die. At that point I fake unhook, get hit, unhook, then trade hooks while they run. But at least like, I understand what I'm doing.
I'm not even a beginner and I swear 90% of the time I run RIGHT INTO the killer when they start closing in on the gen I'm repairing. There could be three different ways for them to come from and I ALWAYS happen to run straight into them when getting off the gen. 🤦🏾♂️
Great vid with excellent tips I still think one of the best thing for beginners is to play both sides , this can be incredibly useful as a survivor to know and understand what the killer sees from their perspective
Been stuck in a lot of games recently where I'm doing everything 'right.' (Focusing on gens, leaving saves till necessary, rather than immediately, looping), genuinely getting stuff done. But all my teammates are doing all the mistakes in this video. I had one game where literally everyone was either hiding in closets, or crouch walking on the opposite side of the map because 'oh no we gotta be sneaky', while I was looping a killer nowhere near them. No gens got done, my level goes down because 'well u died so you must need a lower bracket', and the loop continues. It's driving me mad.
That sounds super frustrating. My advice is to not worry about your MMR or level. That part isn't entirely in your control. Work on practicing what you can control and things will gradually improve. As someone in solo queue most of the time, it happens
I was watching your video just before a game, and then I decided to take all the tips I've heard and implement them into a game against a killer. The part where you talked about killers face-camping? Turns out looping a killer for half of the game while gens get done seriously pisses the killer off.

Slugging is a normal part of DBD. Especially at a high level of play, killers will slug so they can maintain pressure and force survivors to group up a bit.
Survivors have borrowed time built in now, but that does NOT give yo liscence to unhook near the killer. Most killers will take a quick swipe at you, and then go after the person you just unhooked. As killers, I promise you we can count all the way to 12. That said, as a survivor player as well, if I'm legit getting camped, just rush the gens and leave the killer with 1 kill and a terrible amount of blood points. You will MMR up, and they will MMR down. I think most survivors who've played enough to prestige one character feel the same way. Screw the killer, I just got unlucky. End the game quick by escaping.
